Nintendo Switch eShop charts covering the period of May 8 - May 21, 2023 for the following regional charts: US, CA, BR, MX, JP, HK, KR, AU, UK, FR, DE, ES, IT, SE, BE

Many Charts are actually Multi-Regional
The following eShop charts appear to represent only a single country: CA, MX, JP, FR, IT, RU, BR, HK, KR.
We have determined though that the rankings in all other eShop charts we cover represent the cumulative sales of more than one country.
Specifically:
- The US chart also includes the sales from Argentine, Chile, Colombia and Peru (AR, CL, CO, PE)
- The Australian eShop chart also includes the sales from New Zealand (AU, NZ)
- The German eShop chart also includes the sales from Switzerland and Austria (DE, CH, AT)
- The Spanish eShop chart also includes the sales from Portugal (ES, PT)
- The UK eShop chart also includes the sales from Ireland (UK, IE)
- The Belgian chart also includes the sales from the Netherlands and Luxembourg (BE, NL, LU)
- The Rest of Europe : From what we checked, any European country which has access to the eShop, but is not mentioned above, will most likely have the same eShop chart. For convenience, we will henceforth call this group of countries "The Rest of Europe".
The following countries from that group have already been specifically observed to have the same eShop chart:
Sweden,Norway, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary (SE, NO, FI, DK, GR, PL, CZ, HR, SK, BG, HU)
- The South African chart is also the same as the Rest of Europe chart.

Chart methodology
- The sales period covered by each of these regional charts is the past two weeks.

- These charts include only paid-for Nintendo Switch eShop titles (not including DLCs). Any and all free-to-download games (including F2P titles e.g. Fortnite, and free-to-download cloud versions of games e.g. Control) are not included in these charts.

- Each regional chart in this thread was taken from a Nintendo Switch eShop account bound to the respective region:
  • Each regional chart contains the top 50 paid-for software titles that have been downloaded most frequently over the past two weeks in that region, regardless of whether they are download only or also have a retail presence.
  • Retail sales of any titles are not taken into account in these charts.
  • From time to time there might be a discount outside of the eShop that affected a game's ranking inside the eShop (e.g. an Amazon discount on a game's digital version) - such discounts will not be mentioned here as we do not have the means to follow these regularly
- All charts in this thread have been retrieved on the exact same day and date (always a Sunday) in their respective region. The time of the day the charts have been retrieved may differ though.

- Due to technical issues outweighing any possible benefits, game names may sometimes not be identical across the charts.

BoTW, a 6-year-old game that sold a ton, being no. 2 in the regular JP paid software chart is something else, but it being no. 3 in the "all software" rankings and not lower (with lower being the norm for any no. 2 in "paid software" when looking at "all software") is possibly unprecedented. Admittedly, we have not checked in the past each and every week, but still.

You'd have to wonder who is buying it now but there's potentially some degree of completionism helping push it up as people get swept up in the hype of TotK but did not really buy into BotW.

Beyond completionism - what Lelouch said. Among other reasons, my guess would be there are more than a few that did not play BOTW, got caught up in the ToTK hype, but since ToTK is being sold as a sequel, decided to buy the first as well (especially with it being a voucher game).

While indeed this is for a two week period, and a few of these games had a discount, ALL Nintendo games have gone up. Of course, there are some people that did not get a second game with their voucher yet, but are waiting for the right game, they have a year after all (I'm not in Japan but that's me for example :))

Same as last week, 2nd vouchers are continuing this week to help pull almost all Nintendo games up in the JP eShop as well. The exceptions are some Nintendo games that had recently a 20-30% off discount, these are either down or same place (with one exception, Super Mario Odyssey, went up this week as well).

Regarding the discussion about people using vouchers to purchase BOTW and TOTK together --

this is obviously completely anecdotal, but someone just added me as a friend on Switch. I don't know this person, but I was friends with them from a mobile game so they had used that link to add me without needing my friend code.

Why is this relevant? because this is their entire play history:

if these are the only two games they've ever played, they are probably a brand new Switch owner who just used vouchers to grab both at the same time. This doesn't surprise me.
I still haven't played both, so if I had time to play, I would probably buy(not digital) both Zelda games together.

if these are the only two games they've ever played, they are probably a brand new Switch owner who just used vouchers to grab both at the same time. Maybe they got a TotK OLED Switch. The playing times on the old Switch wouldn't get transfered over.

That's how it works when you are checking your own play history on your console, but I am quite certain that when looking at your friends' play history, it is based on the account's usage across all consoles. (I just verified this by checking the playtime for one of my friends whom I know picked up a TOTK OLED, and it continues to show all of their previous history).
 
Through vouchers and/or just BOTW being mentioned whenever ToTK is, here's what happened to BOTW these last 2 weeks in all the eShops' Top 50s:

I completely forgot about it this week, sorry! I checked it earlier when I read your message and it was at 146, I updated my post to include it. I have been thinking about dropping it though, considering that it does not move a lot and does not have huge voucher influence (because it is priced like a 'normal' game).

These are not part of the Voucher system as far as I know, so the bump is likely on their own merit :p

My playing history got wiped completely even on my old Switch and replaced with the new one's after I made the new one my main console. I have serious doubts my friends see much bigger number for my BotW playtime than I do.
