Hard to say. US/NA must be Spider Man's strongest market, and if I had to guess, make up a larger % of SM's total than it did for GOWR. So strong performance there could help cover these small EU deltas. Same for JP, but not to the same extent.

That said, I don't think it hit GOWR's 5-day figure, but if GOWR was a 3-day release I think SM2 would have topped it (or vice-versa).

Not really. On Amazon Germany SMBW sold like six times as much as SM2 in the last month. In Germany Mario is easily outperforming Spider-Man at retail.

DEPENDING ON NoA and Japan, 5mil sell thru fw with 7mil-8mil shipped seems possible. but the true test is quarter sales, as compared to TotK, itll sell extremly high each month

For Odyssey most sales were November and December with people buying Switch at the same time and in the 2018 it had great legs.

Mario Wonder sales will be huge but I think it will be frontloaded to this Holidays season.

To be the best selling Mario quarter needs to beat NSMBWii which is 10.5m units being the best selling Mario first week is a lock because the biggest Mario games in last 20 yr+ have had staggered* releases between regions (NSMBWii/DS and MKWii) or released too early into Switch lifespan to sell a lot quickly (MK8 and Odyssey).

*difference was usually between 1-3 weeks at most between big regions but that's enough to fuck up numbers

That would mean Xbox Series selling less than 35m units if PS5 sells 140m (which is already in the high end of expectations) such a huge decline after all the acquisitions and day 1 GP seems really hard to see especially considering this gen will get it's own GTA which should give a Fornite like boost to both PS5 and Xbox Series and by that point CoD day 1 in GP will be a thing so some interesting bundles could happen.

People love to talk about how Xbox sales are rightly low in Japan and Asia but the situation unfolding for the Series systems in Europe is downright apocalyptic and beyond worst-case scenario. I would predict sales of around 1-1.2M LTD for Series in France which is just outright abysmal.

Apathy or more like absense of it in most people's mind. I've seen an Xbox 360 at a friend's house once 10 years ago. Apart from that I've never seen or heard anything Xbox related anywhere except for a very small Xbox section in my local Media Markt next to the huge Playstation and Switch sections.

In Italy I've seen zero hostily, tons of apathy
since forever, honestly, towards the Xbox brand - this has always been a very Sony-oriented land, with "PlayStation" used meaning "videogame console" until DS/Wii and now Switch products (that are called "the new/latest/actual Nintendo" lol)

I have a question about mainlaind Europe, do you feel that there's a hostility towards Xbox in the region or is about apathy due to the zero marketing presence there?

Playstation has always been the FIFA machine in Europe. And since your friends got a Playstation, you want one too. And now it has become the COD machine too. Playstation got 80% of the casual console market locked.

Nintendo managed to bypass this by appealing to a broader market and being handheld. Not sure how Xbox can penetrate or do much short-term, but Game Pass and Call of Duty might help.

The Xbox 360 did well because of Gears of War and Halo and whatnot, but after that generation, the Xbox brand tanked completely.

And do we know how big the sales in Nov/Dec usually are compared to the full year?

I dont' have 2023 YTD, I only have what Oscar shared in the article (around 90%/10% for PS/XB YTD as of September)

For what represent Holidays:

It seems like this is estimated 800-1000K PS5 and <200K XBS.
If so, PS5 would still be ~1.2M behind PS4 alligned correct?

Install Base at the end of 2016 [GFK/Nintendo France]:

PS4: 3221K
XB1: 1026K

PS3: 5235K
360: 3379K

So yes it will be between 1,0M and 1,2M behind launch-aligned for PS5 with 2,0M-2,2M.
We will see if PS5 can close the gap on the followings years and reach 6M.
Xbox Series will likely be at 0,7M at the end of 2023.

Xbox 360 did quitte well here with 3,4M.

I think there is a marketing problem currently and some terrible decisions like increasing the price of Xbox Series X just before Starfield.

Edit: (**) Xbox one was stronger in France than anywere eslse in Europe (outside UK) but for Xbox 360 while it was stronger in France than Spain, Xbox 360 was stronger in Italy than France.

Doing a rough area calculation, looks like last 10 weeks account for 48% of total yearly sales.

SELL report hardware sales of 612M€ for 2019 and 679M€ for 2020 (full year)

In units using the same source they have 2.280.929 consoles solds in 2019 and 2,3M (number given was less precise) consoles sold in 2020.

You can only blame Xbox leadership for that situation in France or mainland Europe. Tottally missed marketing, empty promises and what not.
