Bodes well for Hogwarts Switch if it topped the charts.The ranking shared by radio France is for some reason incorrect this week.
Volume ranking should be this :

Pretty impressive performance from Spiderman!France | Week 47, 2023 | Retail (Revenue) | GSD
![]()
Should be the previous one.Is this the Black Friday week, or was it the previous one with Spiderman on top?
Should be the previous one.
Remember there is a difference between GSD vs GfK trackersThanks!
So probably big PS results for BF, with Switch back to perform really well nearer to Holidays
Hopefully is because it's doing big numbers and not because everything is doing pitiful numbers.That's a remarkable debut for Avatar. Ubi being a french company explains why it opened so high but it is nonetheless a success to open higher at retail than Mario Kart during a holiday week.
Hogwarts Legacy is selling really high numbers on Switch.Hopefully is because it's doing big numbers and not because everything is doing pitiful numbers.
GFK ranking do not include bundles.For the folks that have been following this market for longer, is it common for gsk and gsd to have a lot of variation between them? and if so, is one of them considered more reliable? Kind of like famitsu and media create?
I say this because the last couple of weeks they were nearly identical with a few changes in positions that could be attributed to one reporting units and the other revenue, but then week 47 has a lot more variation that doesn’t seem like could be due to this difference, thanks in advance!
CNC said:Evaluation of the annual volume and turnover of sales of video games on physical media.
Data collected by the GfK Institute in food superstores, specialized superstores (FNAC, Virgin, Cultura, etc.), mail order sales and internet sales. This data does not include sales at newsstands or gas stations. The rental and sale of second-hand games are not taken into account.
Volume refers to the number of units sold (number of "boxes"). Boxes containing several games together as part of a promotional offer, called "bundles", are not taken into account. Each game medium is associated with a genre (action/adventure, sport, FPS, MMO, etc.) and a nationality. Nationality is assigned using data not available to the CNC. Games designed and developed in France and for which French design expenditure is the majority are considered French. The genre of games is based on a nomenclature established by GfK.
GFK said:GfK has implemented all its know-how in marketing studies (we are the 5th research institute in the world), coupled with a state-of-the-art technical platform, to collect and enrich sales data at checkout for more than 4,000 points of sale for cultural goods, and thus offer the reference solution in terms of distributor panels. These points of sale, as partners, send us their information every week. These points of sale are representative of the distribution of cultural products in France: Supermarkets specializing in culture, Supermarkets for food, 1st level and local bookstores, Internet. In books, specialized non-book superstores (DIY / gardening / household appliances / toys / games / IT) are also included.
Following a referral from Subsonic, a French manufacturer of video game controllers, the Autorité has fined Sony (four group companies, including the Japanese parent company) for abusing its dominant position in the market for the supply of video game controllers for PlayStation 4 (PS4) consoles for more than four years.
The Autorité has sanctioned two practices:
While the Autorité stresses the legitimacy of the objective of combating counterfeiting, it points out that such measures were disproportionate, since they affected all “unlicensed” controllers indiscriminately.
- First, Sony’s use, from November 2015, of technical countermeasures, allegedly implemented to combat counterfeiting, which affected the proper functioning of third-party video game controllers (produced by manufacturers other than Sony and without an official Sony licence), regularly leading to them being disconnected during console operating system updates.
The Autorité considers that the combination of these two practices significantly damaged the brand image of the third-party manufacturers affected, with regard to both players and distributors, slowing down their expansion in the market and leading to their possible foreclosure.
- Second, an opaque licensing policy, which in several cases prevented rival companies that wanted to market PS4-compatible controllers from joining the OLP partnership programme, which is the only way for third parties to obtain an official licence and unique identification numbers. The Autorité found that by refusing to communicate the OLP access criteria to manufacturers who requested them, Sony applied the criteria in a discretionary manner, even though access to the programme was the only way to avoid disconnections.
The fine, amounting to €13,527,000, is imposed jointly and severally on three subsidiaries and the parent company of the Sony group:
- Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited (in charge of the licensing programme in Europe);
- Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. K.K (responsible for rolling out operating system updates for the PS4 console);
- Sony Interactive Entertainment France (responsible for marketing controllers in France);
- Sony Group Corporation (parent company).
That's quite the fine for only one market.

Hogwarts Legacy is selling really high numbers on Switch.
Xbox Series is sold at 410€ at severall places untill mid-january.
This is an extension of the December deals which itself were an extension of the Black Friday deals.
Oh the deal is equivalent. If I remember right the us prices exclude VAT. The 349 with 20% VAT is ~419, so it’s about the same and this is ignoring the exchange rate difference.The US deal is much better. Surprised they didn’t go for €349
The price isnt that attractive true, at the same time the official MSRP for the system is 550€ here - so not really sure what MS is doing right now. Their product strategy and pricing is really confusing, especially when you add in the 1TB Black Series S model.The US deal is much better. Surprised they didn’t go for €349
A video games shop owner shared the planned day one stock for a couple of incoming games.
Summary:
- PS5:Xbox ratio is 5:1
- Alone in the Dark: 19k
- Skull and Bone: 51k
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: 100k
- Stalker 2: n/a
- Rise of the Ronin: 60k
- Suicide Squad: 70k
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 40k
- Another Code Recollection: 25k
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Switch): 54k
- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (PS4/PS5/Xbox): 40k
- Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden: 30k
- Princess Peach: Showtime!: 70k
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong: 40k
Suicide Squad is heading straight to the bomba bin.
GT7's also crossgen and launched with a busted economy.Now is this price attractive? I don’t believe so, because those customers that are price sensitive (like parents or teens and students) need a must have game to consider buying a console. And „FIFA“ is multiplat. MS lacks a Spider-Man, Gran Turismo, Zelda, Pokémon or Mario. Forza should have been theirs, but Horizon 5 was crossgen and the new one released in a disappointing state.
Indeed, but I meant this more in general not in a PS5 vs XSX/S context. Gran Turismo is a very strong IP in Europe. People I know who regularly only play FIFA or Fortnite buy GT because it was one of the defining games they played as kids (my gifted PS2 came with GT4 which was the first non-Nintendo game I ever played).GT7's also crossgen and launched with a busted economy.
Nintendo is pitching in for marketing from the ads I've seen, or Ubisoft is feeling really good on that version (which they should since it's a Switch game first)Interesting split for PoP
