The Kaiju No. 8 anime will air in 2024

I think this kills its chances at being in the top 10 next year

From looking it up it seems it has complex designs to draw and animate. Besides, airing on fall gives the author time to write more for future content. Since both Kaiju 8 and Spy are releasing 2 volumes or 3 a year. And I don't think there has been anything beside a confirmation. Not even a Key visual. I actually thought it would be in 2024 but the Jump festa stage announcement made me reconsider.

I forgot about Oshi, yeah that might enter top 10.

Kingdom LA 2 didn't do much did it? just a very small boost and it still declined volume to volume. I don't think a third movie will do much. The ¥715 price will hurt it this year, I expect volumes to get 500k or under.

Oricon 2023 shaping to be a low year, I think Shueisha's series are still heavily physical. At least WSJ and J+ ones. The problem with lacking digital data is mostly for more niche manga. I think they'll have to add digital data sooner or later though. Didn't they adapt to this already with Music? If so then we might see them add it soon.

Cross it off the top10 entirely then. This won't even come close. Would have to rethink what comes next.
 
2024 for the Kaiju no.8 anime is bot somewhat suprising (there should be enough chapters for a 12 episode series) and expected considering how the series does paneling. Maybe they want to do a 24 episode season?

Great for slam dunk
Also one piece backlog sells are getting better since film red release back in August
I feel since wano arc started the Japanese people lost there interes for the manga
But film red helped the backlog to get a little bit better imo
Jjk still doing bad numbers compared to the previous volumes

Angélique by Musso did 59,860 units
L'arabe du Futur #6, 51,300 units
OP #102 - 53,358 units
Joël Dicker's "L'affaire Alaska Sanders" did 61,977 units

No other book SKU launched with over 50k units this year.

Berserk #41 reached 53,009 with its Limited Edition included.
Demon Slayer #23, 58,191 with its Limited Edition and its Limited box-set
Spy x Family #8 did 50,101 with its Limited Edition

Last year had One Piece #100 with ~70k for the regular edition and ~63k for the Limited Edition.
So this is a new 1-week record for a single SKU of a One Piece volume!
But well, last year's biggest launch is obviously outside of any comparison, since 2021 was an "Astérix year". Over 520k units sold in a single week for that.

But that doesn't mean anything.
This week, the n°10 sold 19k units.
That would have been enough to be n°3 when DDD #1 and #2 released.
Holiday season means it's harder to reacher high ranks.

DDD #3 did on par with volume 2.

I think it will have at least 27 volumes it has 17 chapters now which are still needs to be released in volume form and it will need only 28-30 chapters more for reaching volume 26 depends on the number of chapters used in volume if 9 chapters per volume then 28 chapters and if 10 chapters per volume then 30 chapters. before volume 21 it was 9 chapters per volume for first 20 volumes only volumr 21 get 10 chapters. And i think it will go upto 255 chapters (about 48-50 chapters more). so 27 volumes is bare minimum.
 
Undead seems to have gottten the best deal, with David Production and the director+team of fire force working on it. Wonder if it will manage to give the manga a deserved big boost.
Yozakura and Mato Seihei seem to have gotten the worst deal so far, Silverlink and seven arcs are not very good, especially for series with very nice art. Hopefully I'm proven wrong, but I'm not expecting much

I agree, I think he does 36 chapters per year. Depending on when he finishes, it'll have roughly 26-27 volumes. So It'll be around 27 volumes or 28 volumes total when you include volume 0.

To be honest, at this moment I don't see it to be ending within 35-40 chapters. It will have 50 more chapters, at least.
And Gege's statement was more like end of the year greetings than actual ultimatum but yeah it will end soon maybe around mid 2024.
 
never trust mangaka estimates as a general rule (MHA was also supposed to end this year), but JJK is even more unbelievable, considering how the story is going, imo.
 
i wonder if they could potentialy announce an unexpected anime project like they did with Dai No Daiboken remake
 
With the new season and the movie, if the author can release 3 new volumes in 2023, I think spy family will most likely be a best-selling manga.

The problem with Spy is the amount of volumes and the fact that it sold so much already. Even a JJK movie boost would give it around 4m. But yeah there's a possibility of Spy taking the crown if the author releases enough volumes and there's another boost with the movie. If it releases summer it'll face tough competition since there's a new Miyazaki/Ghibli movie next summer. If its fall then it would be too late to get the boost for this oricon year. That said I think Spy is higher than JJK was at the time, so the movie boost (if it happens) might not be as big. I'll check this later.

29M is pretty amazing. With next volume it'll surpass 3m per vol circulation wise.

Blue Exorcist reached 25 million.

I think, Movie will be released in spring or summer and i don't think Miyazaki film will effect it much if it can separate it's releas from Ghibli film by 4-5 week.
As for movie or second season boost i also don't think much of a boost will happen (if it happens). For example second cour of first season is airing and isn't helping much. Only benefit from movie or second season is that they can help the backlogs to stick little longer.

It had reached 29,626,769 units as of the end of 2021. Meaning it sold over 4.9 million units in 10 months. In 2021, it had sold 5,645,984 units. So with 2 more months, 2022 should end over 2021. (Source)

To compare, Dragon Ball (including Super) had reached 26,063,500 units as of the end of 2021.

Also, Naruto (including Boruto) was announced last week to have reached 27M units (though it is unknown when exactly it reached that number, the previous update was 25.5M as of the end of 2021).

Note that these are the publisher's direct numbers, so sell-in and not sell-through. To compare, Gfk had One Piece's 2021 total about 24% lower than the 5.6M number. Though this is also because Gfk only considers "continental" France (no Corsica, no oversea territories, no French speaking Belgium or Switzerland) and only physical sales, whereas Glénat does sell digital volumes (though digital manga is still very, very small in France).


No other series come close. Using Gfk, Fairy Tail is over 10M units sold for sure, but probably not much higher. My Hero Academia is closing in on 10M units sold too.

its weid that only Glénat give us numbers (did they post Berserk sales?), i would have expected Pika to also boast about SNK or Tokyo Revenger sales

However, both publisher did give info to Valentin Paquot (a French journalist) and allowed him to share it :

did they talk about Rokudenashi Blues release if it was a succes or noti doubt it was, i think they wanted to publish old classic from wsj after that but they jinx it with the underwhelming price/quality compared to Karakuri Circus, Baki or FMA.

The podcast "La 5ème de Couv'" revealed that as of August, this was the top 10 best-selling new editions of the year in France

36 million would be the aim for One Piece by the end of the year. it should be achieve able even if it goes with the pace of 2021 ( though it seams to be doing better this year).
Also blue lock has 16 Million in circulation now.

I wonder how Naruto and Dragon ball would have fared in France if they were still publishing. OP would likely end up above 60m by the end. MHA probably going to be the closest after these three at 15m.
