Great software showcase but in terms of hardware pricing MS still doesnt get it. It seems like every new Xbox they released since the Holiday 2020 launch Series S/ Series X has been a worse deal than the one before.

Its clear that they arent interested in selling their system at loss no more, even if its result in lower hardware sales.

Bruh the dichotomy of presentation vs hardware.

Can Phil Spencer just come out and say that he despises Europeans please lmao. Xbox hardware team makes no sense seriously.

Hopefully the consoles will be sold for less soon. I was waiting for the all digital Series X but the MSRP is higher than what the current Series X is sold for (470€ - without looking for better deals).

If you look at games' limited-edition prices, where they retail for hundreds of dollars/euros, a limited-edition console costing that much shouldn't surprise you.

This is them going all-digital without having the guts to say it. Disk drive will be reserved for the "special" edition.

MSRP is ridiculous, but I'm sure will be easy to buy cheaper, as it is with the currently models.

2TB is limited edition, so I guess in that case will be truly $599.

I don't get it. Why? Just launch a series s bundles with all Minecraft games pre loaded or something.

Then add a good series x bundle. It is not like Microsoft don't have software to do so.

MSRP is merely a suggestion around the holiday season 😉

Look at the PS5 Slim, MSRP was $499 at launch but is on discount numerous times now.

The 1TB S and Series X (non 2TB) will all be discounted for Black Friday and Christmas.

Fwiw, the digital ratio for some Xbox games is over 85% at this point.
This may explain the new physical version being limited, as well as the possibility of the OG Series X being slowly phased out for the digital-only one.

€649.99 lmao is Microsoft officially giving up entirely on Europe?

Considering how deep MS is into Digital has been. That 2 TB physical version exist only to milk the utmost hardcore audience lol.

pricing just screams hardware costs are way too high. at least nominally. we've seen that in holiday time sony and ms are prepare to move units.

399 would have been the aggressive move on xsx DE.

We could see i guess 299 xsx de this holiday, since xsx already was 349 widespread last yr. or not. but either way it again shows how S is trapped. prices get infinitely harder to cut the lower they start out.

granted i'm not convinced ps5 pro is coming this year, but decent chance it could be 599 for 1tb, vs 599 for 2tb xsx? (now that i see this, i wonder if ps5 pro might cost even more? which would unfortunately push to a new console record 699, unless neo geo or 3do ever was that)

which reminds me, we're there! 599 is finally a real console price point instead of a meme surrounding ps3. too be fair, it's been 18 yrs. that's really not bad.

so this all but confirms a slim redesign isn't coming, which imo means they're damn the torpedoes on next gen. which still probably means 2027 not 2026...

the software at ms show was great but what matters is hardware/hardware pricing and this lands with a thud. this tells me i think they're content to slowly fade out the rest of this gen, and putting everything into next gen.

it makes nominal sense in that corporate way. the 1tb add on is 149.95 msrp, so you save 50 bucks if you wanted that anyway. what a deal! though i guess if you buy a 2nd ssd it's portable/resalable, if anyone cares about that? since the games are tied to account anyway that's a stretch. but yeah i cant see this selling anything really. probably exists like the 349 1 tb S, to garner the occasional msrp sale from a uneducated consumer and push the ASP up. again it all screams yikes, this stuff is really expensive. i guess meaningful node shrink costs cuts really are dead. which really tbh is a new era of gaming. but we are also on high inflation era, which makes it difficult to parse out the two.

also these white consoles are fugly imo idc idc. the S 1tb looked much better in black compared to the white base model.

Is the current 1TB Series X expected to be discontinued soon after the launch if those new models? Would mark the end of Xbox retail software as we know it.

4 years later and the series X disc with 2tb will be more expensive than launch price (1tb only) whilst the PS5 pro will possibly be the same price.
But the digital 1tb edition will be the same as the digital PS5.

Series consoles will have for sure lower sales than Xbone.

This is a catch22 situation. Physical is so low because Xbox is not popular in countries where physical is bigger, xbox struggles to sell software and Gamepass cannibilises software as well.

MSFT's got its wish of all digital Xbox future but it wasn't organic and directly comes from the decline of their software ecosystem.

I think that is the reason that it is limited, I don't think that Mircosoft sustains that price point for a long period of time. Tho this is something of a test.
Anyways.... $599 USD... We have crossed that rubicon before, didn't work out well for SIE at the time.

To be fair, $600 in 2006 is roughly equivalent to $930 today adjusted for inflation, so we're still very far off from a PS3-like impact.

True but consumers don't see pricing like that. SIE effectively priced itself out of the market, folk's budgets could not justify that expense... so they didn't.
I am not sure how Microsoft will fair but keep in mind that gaming is not a necessity, folk's will react to the pricing according to that.

I don't think MS is expecting the limited edition six hundred dollar console to sell very much at all, in comparison to their 350 and 450 alternatives. But yes, it is very expensive for no real reason.

No, I don't think so either which is what I said earlier:

That being said, I suspect that if this goes well that Microsoft will see this at the license to do this again. For a longer period.
I'm not sure this becomes a permanent SKU for a future hardware stack, but depending on consumer response to this it just might.

$599 USD is indeed a high price, but consider that the last limited edition Series X (1TB) can sell for $900 on eBay right now. Limited edition consoles by their nature can’t be evaluated like a regular SKU.

I don't get it, they are actually raising the price on the Series S? Wasn't the price on this thing $299?

Or are they keeping the $299 and $349 model at the same time?

The $299 Series S has 512GB of storage whereas the $349 Seried S had 1TB of storage.

Thanks for the explanation. That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure.

I've been itching to jump into current gen but the prices are kinda keeping me out of it. I'd buy a Series S but I want Gyro, so I'm waiting to see if the PS5 gets to that $349 price tag again. Maybe closer to the launch of the Pro.

Series consoles will have for sure lower sales than Xbone.

PS5 will for sure have lower sales than PS4. It's all relative.

Especially if the next Xbox is fast tracked. Which TBF I think it's mostly just me saying that.

I bash on Xbox sales as much as anybody but in reality we are probably looking at Xbox -10-15% this gen, PS -5%, or something like that. Not a sea change, an incremental one.

I would argue that the prices is fine. Especially if they could make a series s woth a disc drive. What they need is content that makes people to choose xbox over ps5 or pc.

Probably ~28 million already have. Should be 50-60 million by gen end.

Anyways a good hardware lineup IMO is the most important thing. And yeah we're in a thread of an incredibly lackluster hardware refresh by MS lol. We dont get any new controller, any new form factor, and pricing is poor when they dont undercut the more popular PS5.

The positive hardware thing is at least reaching parity with PS by offering a less expensive digital version.

A lot will be told by how aggressive holiday pricing is again. If they do widespread 299 Xbox X DE this holiday that would be nice. I would be curious if Sony would match. Sony did match 349 XSX last holiday. Altho IIRC in a more limited fashion.

The prices is very non aggressive. Like I said it really tells that hardware component cost reductions are not really happening. But we sort of knew that. But this is just a newer confirmation.

I'm a broken record but IMO the Series S just fubared customer perception of Xbox and confused people. It continues to seem there is no recovery possible this generation. Another factor is tho on paper siginficantly more powerful, by and large XSX did not show it. I'm not sure why. Some of it might be tools. Some of it might be architecture issues (the 10GB of high speed RAM and 6Gb slower pool being the top suspect).

I think the PS6 will release in 2028, there are a lot of current-gen heavy hitters to be released.
With consoles not getting price cuts due to no new silicon and models anymore, i think it would be a good idea to have shorter generations.

First 3Gib GDDR7 should be cheap by that time. GAA with backside power delivery chips, too.

The limited supply and high demand at the start of this generation and poor sales of Series S, should also indicate the mass market for consoles being dead. So there is no reason not to go for the hardcore gamers, who are willing to spend 600 for a console anyways.
Only Nintendo can sell 100m pieces of "whatever hardware" because of their games.

As long as cross gen releases continue you are basically just selling expensive consoles to groups that want a power upgrade. Not that large of a group. That is the advantage Nintendo will have given that they are ready to make exclusive games day 1 on their new consoles.

Portable PCs are hardly doing well, we're talking 1-3M range at the moment. I think a Pro would outsell that.
Yeah I agree
Steam deck didn't even outsell ps vita
And we know vita was a huge failure in sells
It's so bizarre how people in videogames fourms talk like Steam deck is breaking records after records 😂😂

I feel like wires are getting crossed on the Portable thing. I think we might be getting a dedicated Series P rather than just another handheld Windows device from Xbox. Like, why bother with the latter tbh, market's already crowded and well served.

I disagree with the mass market for consoles being dead. I would argue that the width of software that drives mass market adoption of hardware is dead. Series S problem for me personally is software not hardware. I love the size of the console, it would fit me perfectly. It is bust so that the software Microsoft have is lacking compared to what I like to play. I have a xbox360 and my most played games on that console was guitar hero, rayman and some arcade racers.

The problem Microsoft have is that those types of games I like to play I most likely can play on a Switch and Nintendo is way better to deliver. That is why Nintendo is selling so much.

There are rumors of Microsoft licensing out the Xbox name for OEM consoles despite that being served too. MS is being weird with hardware because they're in a weird place
