A feel good [Urban Myth] news story.

Didn't have a chance to go over the domestic retail sales, will do so here plus a quick look at the eShop chart rankings & Steam CCUs...until now!

High placement in the weekly Japan/Asia eShop charts combined with times it
peaks on Steam each day suggest a very high number of sales in Japan/Korean/Asia correct? Solid Steam CCU (which peaked at
2,672 but has remained around 1000 in recent days). Shueisha being a multi-media behemoth means that its already planning a
manga adaptation to debut in May.
Switch + Steam - A(DV) Deadly Combination
We need a version of this gif with a Steam Deck
As for the mystery ADV sub-genre, PARANORMASIGHT reappearing in the Japan eShop charts around the same time got my spider senses tingling. I sense with my 3rd eye a cross over, which is not too outlandish considering they already did with G-MORE as per my post
here). Which also reminds me that HYPER REAL could've had the next
cult mystery ADV on its hands...only Furoshiki Labs delayed the game indefinitely. So in the meantime, aside from the next Mystery Walk from imagineer (
remember me?.gif), a better shout to capitalise on the sub-genre would be smartphone centric, coly timely announcement of plans to release Kindaichi Mystery Series: The Honjin Murders
later this month for Steam & Switch. Mystery Series you say?
If only there was already a long running series that a company struggling to release games anybody in Japan wants to buy would buy could revive its fortunes...is it murder death kill time for Hayarigami 4/Shin Hayarigami 4?
why not both?.gif...next week in
Nippon Ichi Software UNTITLED// magazine. Obligatory NIS America:
what's a Hayarigami?.gif
Boo!
Just to build up a bit on this with info I gathered for the (now abandoned)
Shueisha Games Thread. Makoto Wakaido's Case Files was actually a mobile game with some following in both
Play and
Apple Store, it won the top 10 in
Indie Games Festival 2021 and was supported by Shueisha via the Creators Camp.
Abandonware? Hey now, I did my best
but my best wasn't good enough as nobody replied you tried.gif as
@Nocturnal mentioned with lots of games slated for 2025 (update on
ANTHEM#9 over the weekend) there is plenty to discuss & people can always post in the Output Strategy threads about which ones interest them most now!
*crickets*
Shueisha Games offers massive support, every released title of them was featured in one of the Console Makers shows so far (mostly on Indie World, but Ukiyo, that was not released yet, was featured in a Xbox Extended Showcase too) and they have a big area on TGS and presence in other events as well. If anything, I think it is surprising they did not land a success before (Certainly doesn't help that both Arcana of Paradise and ONI weren't well received).
Definitely shows the value of a publisher, even for small developers in raising awareness. As for its line up to date, takes a while to build an engaged following so maybe prior titles will get a second look. As mentioned in the Output Strategy, in the case of ONI, it should've been delayed as post-launch updates which addressed many criticisms aren't reflected in the reviews.
That's out of their intended scope, there are some explanations about their goals in the Shueisha Games thread!
Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions included cameos so its possible to expand the remit of the publisher, especially after the success of Urban Myth Dissolution Centre to include licensing. It could be done without directly competing with titles from the likes of Bandai Namco as shown by FAIRY TAIL getting a sequel from Koei Tecmo not long after two games, including one from SOULVARS developer ginolab (FAIRY TAIL: DUNGEONS). That approach would be something for Shueisha Games to consider alongside signing original titles.
