This is entirely unhelpful. Don't sling blame on a singular group. Especially not when we've been actively telling people in these threads to stop throwing shit at Dring for months because this was the inevitable end-result and yet it kept happening because a lot of people whether they are here, on social media, or fanboys of X game console have no self-restraint or self-reflection until the clown makeup is smeared all across their face such as now.
Stop throwing stones in glass houses and stop fanboy warring over who's more to blame.

It sure is something to blame Xbox fans on Chris Dring being harassed for reporting FF7R2 sales.

Dogma is probably more popular in UK due to being more western in style, its not a Tales of style JRPG at all for instance.
He got his share of (often nasty) criticism back when Microsoft was buying ABK and he was very clearly and openly against it. But that was quite a while ago and singling out Xbox fans, especially now, doesn't make any sense anyway since all the fanbases are doing it.
It can be both (or even more things at play). Or he could just need a mental health break from being a public facing figure all together. No one would know except Chris.
But people here (on Install Base) have been insuferable about how they talk about this dude. Seeing people here now collectively hiding their hands now is hilarious.
Losing data sucks but it is much less important than having good rules of engagement and they tend to be shitty here at tines when figures say something people don't like.

I think that if you're openly going to go out on a limb with particular biases, then you obviously need to have thick skin because you know there's going to be pushback. Otherwise, don't go down that route AND double-down when it looks like you're slightly off-base.

To the kind of people who cause problems any unfavorable sales comparison, no matter how valid is considered "providing your own opinion". Even if you're just pointing out it's down vs the previous game in the series!

Feels like every corner of video-game industry internet discourse had its turn of hating on Dring, don't think any single one of those is specifically to blame, and as far as I can remember Chris never said anything out of line. It just points to a much larger issue of just how touchy people seem to be regarding negative news of their brand of choice, or of criticism in general, some weirdo new form of console wars.
Pretty much, feels like Dring's mistake is implying anything negative at all.
Of course there are people on social media that does this but you are kidding yourself if you think his other comments aren't also criticized. Thats all I was saying in my first post, nothing foolish about it at all. It's impossible for us to know what pushed him to do this or what people mostly criticize him for, however I would imagine it's a combination of his data and his personal comments.
I disagree but I can understand why you would feel that way. Otherwise I think @Chris1964 is right, trying to blame ourselves for something that happened on a different platform isn't really helpful. Especially when the reasoning for his absence isn't clear yet.
Probably best to just get back to data/numbers, blaming each other isn't getting us anywhere.
I do agree the joke has gotten old, but he did set it up himself when he refused to listen to what people told him about Mario sales and also doubling down on it later.
Obviously that doesn't excuse harassment.

Social media 1 on 1, it's people without filters, mean people, and all sorts of opinions you won't like. So it's normal that public people will ignore PMs and interactions and treat it like a broadcasting platform. Or only respond to positive people or fans. Most don't read or engage with comments, especially when it's cruel stuff. I think it's a sign of maturity to block that out and move on.
I don't blame Pat or Chris, nor find that they are replying or commenting on the hate in some big way, but I always find it odd when public people start to have an issue with the obvious troll factor, especially something as dumb as console warring, which frankly, any adult should be able to block out.
There are limits of course, and we don't know the full story or how bad it was.
You two get one reprieve because the mod post wasn’t completely marked. But the conversation is over now.

...and it was nothing to do with all the above discussion (clearly some guilty consciences around!). He does what I decided to do many years ago, and just ignore whatever's levelled at you across social channels or on certain forums. Fair play to him - you need thick skin in any industry where you share things publicly online.
Anyway, good to see, and here's to us all continuing the sales discussion once more (which is why we all come here for, right??).
