The Game Freak Thread: Pokémon, New IP Etc. [Update: Nintendo Survey]

I think Pokébeach is definitely spotting a real pattern here, but I'm curious to see what they do this year for the Pokémon Presents and World Championship as there is pretty much a calendar year to fill right now.

Summer/Fall 2025 release always seemed more likely for Legends Z-A the moment it was given a generic 2025 release window upon announcement rather than a more specific "early 2025" release window like Legends Arceus.

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 released in June 2012 in Japan. Pokemon Emerald through Black and White released in September in Japan.
That's before Poke started doing simultaneous global releases with 3DS though right?

Yeah I agree but then again the Pokemon Company doesn't seem to be the type of business to annouce a game (Feb 2024) still about two years out of release (Fall 2025). I was hoping we get a late March date because I believe they interpret that time period as Spring releases (Late March to Early June seems to be their definition of Spring releases). I admit I got alittle worried about ZA release timing after the Q1 results. They came in higher than I expected and if Q2 is higher then Q3 and Q4 need to be lower than my expectations. Q4 wouldn't be able to be lower if ZA releases in it. So admit I was already alittle worried and now I'm alittle more worried.

PLZA: 2025 summer
Gen 10: 2026 Holiday

People probably dont expect Gen 10 to come out so soon as nsw2 will be just over a years old when it launches (if 2026 holiday) but pokemon doenst need a 30mil+install base to launch on
Yeah I don’t see Pokémon going its 30th anniversary without a Gen 10 announcement. Plus it would give the developers 4 years assuming work began following SV’s launch.

It is also interesting how Mystery Dungeon GBA was released a couple of weeks before Worlds when they could have withheld it for the Presents.

Really pleased about what this news implies for Legends, aka a release date after the Switch 2 launch. Should maximize sales potential and offer an enhanced version of the game.

there's a number of odd stuff. Mystery Dungeon, Dynamax in Go, Arven in Masters. I don't know if there's anything in Unite or Cafe Remix

So there's a possibility of no August Presents this time ?
Nobody knows. Shits weird. They have to put out something for TCG Pocket as that will be playable in Honolulu in a little over a week. There seemingly isn't a game on switch this year, and signs point to Legends 2 being in the next FY. So there's nothing to advertise but new merchandise and maybe a new cartoon

An announcement for Pokemon Sleep coming on August 8th. It's being announced independently, so that might mean something

I'm guessing Spike-Chunsoft was too busy with Shiren 6 to work on a new PMD. Still think it should happen eventually -- they did greenlight New Pokémon Snap after all.

I still wonder what was that Spike-Chunsoft copyright shenanigan on the Pokémon Presents website a while back.

now that Shiren is fully out of their dev pipeline, maybe the next Pokemon Presents can be the right place where to announce it?
many were expecting a Pokemon game for this year, especially with Legends being (H2, by the rumors?) 2025 release

I'm hoping that Shiren 6's good sales numbers will be just the thing that convinces TPC to sign off on a new PMD.

There was a chance it was for PK MD Red rescue team. These nso games seems to have been ready for a while so it was probably a schedule thing.

The remake sold 2m units, which is pretty decent for the genre (especially as an exclusive), and a lot more than Shiren 6 so I don't think they'd look at that game to decide whether to greenlight a new game or not.

That'd be a pretty big delay if so.

I thought a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon would have happened late last year or early this year.

It would be a shame if Pokemon spin-offs were relegated to F2P and/or mobile from now onwards.

It shows that Gamefreak have changed their release schedule, i wonder if they themselves pushed for this or if others like Nintendo wanted their quality to become higher.

little of column A, little of column B. I'm one who believes that they encountered problems with SS and SV, and between those they realized they needed to make some changes. of course, Nintendo is there to help give them some advice, which probably includes "be prepared to take longer".

they haven't even exhausted the spin-offs they can do. no party game, no platformer, no side-scrolling game (especially when you have three Megaman-ass characters to work with), nothing. I'm sure folks like Inti Creates and Wayforward would throw themselves onto the ground for a chance to make such games, so it's not like there aren't resources available

That shift happened during the transition years from the 3DS, with many spin-offs launching on mobile.

They reverted things back a bit on Switch, but it was mainly through ports and remakes (at the exception of Pokémon Snap).

I am surprised we didn't see a new Mystery Dungeon, the remake was more than 4 years ago.

THe new shiren game probably eat up Spike resource there so they cant help making new PMD.

Arven has a date for Pokemon Masters (August 9th). that's almost all the announcements, just Pokemon GO and maybe Unite and Cafe Remix. unless there's a surprise, I don't have too much more hope for a Presents

I think the next Presents will happen when they are ready to show Legends, which might not be before a few months.
The next Presents will be in February, so Legends is guaranteed to be there. It does beg the question if they're waiting on Drake.

There's also the option of showing up at Worlds, but that would be weird since it's not a competitive game

They could always delay it to 2025 too ;)

But nothing preventing that from being a Worlds announcement, I guess (other than window between release date announcement and actual release for mobage is extremely short for obvious reasons).

The only sure thing is that there's a Pokemon Pocket hands-on at Worlds next week so I don't think the game is getting delayed to 2025.

The Pokémon Company will be at Gamescom with a booth.
They didn't partecipate last year (not sure if they were ever at Gamescon).
There is gonna be a videogame section, I'm not sure what they will bring there. TGC Pocket?

TPC has a demo booth with the game. From the wording it seems it just pulls but that half of the fun.

If we were getting news about Z-A, I reckon they'd be more open about it, it wouldn't make sense to put out what will presumably be the game's first trailer with actual footage at Worlds instead of doing the traditional Presents. I don't think we're seeing anything until next February. I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong though (provided Z-A isn't coming out too early)

I do think they’ll show something about Legends, if only a teaser trailer or something. They know their audience and would have preemptively warned not to expect it otherwise IMO
