TGS & Friends (Sony's SoP, Sonic, and Level-5): September, 2024 - Catch-All Thread for Leaks (in Spoilers!), Discussion, Speculation, and Predictions

It looks like 15 games featured in the State of Play have leaked on PSN.

Not sure if I need to spoiler it as it's an existing game but eh just to be safe:

Lego Horizon Adventures is like the main highlight since I've been dying to see the pre-orders go up and especially to see the Switch box. Yes, silly I know, but I've been so hyped to see a non-MLB PS Studios Switch game box. XD

At least we should be getting the release date and boxart for Monster Hunter Wilds.

Im sure the discourse about the game in the next months will be fun

Apparently Holy Horror Mansion is using AI generated art.

Thread about it:

literally every 2D background including the animated ones are AIthe main villains of the game in this tower are described as "an evil company that will stop at nothing to make money" Level 5 has no fucking self awareness

the design of the player's house isn't even consistent between key art because they just generated it with AIlook at the fucking trees and center balconies rofl

Ghost of Yotei was a nice closure for a otherwise pretty average State of Play, it and Monster Hunter Wilds definitely the two highlights.

Very strong for a State of Play with Ghost of Yotei at the end. Looks fantastic and coming next year.

Yeah pretty much how I felt, a pretty mid presentation BUT with a good closer

Personal taste: the "clay" game and the "PS1 horror" game were by far the most interesting announcements.

100% agreed there. Was a pretty okay State of Play.

MH Wilds arriving in February 2025, though... I'm not sure if it's gonna hit a million in Japan at retail.

I'm probably the alone in this, but the only thing that actually excited me in the presentation was the Lunar Remastered Collection :P

I liked pretty much everything they had to show, even though it definitely wasn't a perfect State of Play. Ghost of Yotei looks incredible!

I've felt every SoP has been mediocre, especially because they never announce big PS Studios games there (no Astro Bot doesn't count... kidding), this is the first one where I think they had a good variety of games even if the way they pace it is still bad, pleasantly surprised about this one, best SoP for me, in big part because they are finally finishing them with big first party ANNOUNCEMENTS, even if Ghost of was one of the most predictable announcements ever..

It was a pretty strong show by Sony, especially considering how much of it leaked beforehand. Some good-looking trailers, nice pacing, and they ended it on a high note.

Starcraft 1&2 on Game Pass!

For those who want to know more about the games, there is an excellent double-article written by @Marth on the topic:

2 of the greatest games of all time. I envy anyone who hasn’t already played through them. Might use this as an excuse for another play through, still have to finish the final WoL mission on nightmare difficulty, it’s a doozy.

Good games but its a bit sad that they have to sell these old SE ports as big wins for the consoles or Xbox.
Guess its still a big deal for Xbox onlys but i hope they are getting some more modern/new stuff as well.

Edit.

Thats all ? Pixel Remasters arent even on GP or did i miss it. Weird showcase.

Xbox TGS continues to be a big waste of time.

Also incredibly funny to see a TGS show with exclusive english subs and dubs.

Yeah, that show was a nothingburger. The only real news was Synduality launching January 24th, and let's be honest, that game is a total non-factor.
Also, I feel like DQ3 launching simultaneously on Xbox is a much bigger deal and better represent the improved relationship with SE than a bunch of old ports, so it's weird that those were the closer - feels like a decision made specifically to appease those loud online fanboys rather than attracting potential newcomers.

Everything Xbox does is catering towards english speaker gamers, so DQ isn't really a big deal and a bunch of old FF games is a bigger deal.

We already knew DQ3 was coming to Xbox since June, no surprise they favored new announcements to close off the presentation.

3-days ban | Continued history of hot takes, thread derails, third infraction in around 4 months

Nintendo would kill to get the third party support Xbox gets.

“Hey that’s pretty cool”
Now if they can only do a 3 some day

Is freedom Wars Remastered playable at TGS? It's still absent from BN's TGS site. They are doing something there for that promo to reduce the prison sentence gimmick which I think is for some console giveaway thing, but obviously I'm more concerned about the actual game being there.

It's due in Jan and already playable at that unspecified event IGN first saw and played the game at before, so it'd make zero sense for it to be not playable at TGS of all places. Hopefully if it is, the Switch version is also playable and we can get off-camera footage or something.

Same goes for the Switch version of Sonic X Shadow Generations. TGS was the only place we got proper gameplay footage of Sonic Frontiers and Persona 5 Royal on Switch before release.

I feel like Heroes of the Storm with most or all heroes unlocked would have been more impactful for a Blizzard Team 1 game? The Starcraft addition is more accurately like a remastered graphics pack for SC1 and 2/3 of SC2's campaigns along with a DLC mission pack, since everything else in those games is already free. Ah well.

They know nobody cares about HotS, search your heart, you know this to be true...

Microsoft's TGS show was pretty nice for me. I'm about to finish Collection of Mana on Switch so I went ahead and installed Trial of Mana so I can jump into it right after. What timing.

So I didn't watch Microsoft's TGS presentation.
But I saw a recap - Threads of Time looks incredible and I hope that game comes to PS5 or Switch 2.

Game was inspired by Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, and you can certainly see, but I also get Live A Live vibes here too. Very much looking forward to this, just gotta play Sea of Stars and Chained Echoes first for my JRPG inspired indie fix. xD

Apparently Holy Horror Mansion is using AI generated art.

Thread about it:

Was reading ANN's This Week In Games, and the writer linked an Automaton article which links to an IT Media article which links to a Powerpoint presentation where Level 5 reveal in a slideshow presentation that they've been using Stable Diffusion (Generative AI) and ChatGPT while developing Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road.

It's definitely coming to more consoles.

We aim to be everywhere you guys want us to be, from PC to consoles. Once we have confirmation of the platforms we intend to release Threads of Time on, we’ll update everyone!

This is the TGS demo of Professor Layton:

I like what I'm seeing.
It looks like they kept the "touchscreen heavy" controls of the NDS/3DS games and simply translated them to controller, so it will probably play a lot better in handheld mode but I don't think it's detrimental considering that Layton never appeared on anything but handhelds and mobile.
