Tekken 8 Sales Top 2 Million Units in 3 weeks

"Tekken 8 has sold 2 Million Copies since launchBandai Namco says sales are better than expected.Tekken 8 is selling faster than Tekken 7. Tekken 7 took around 2 months to sell 2m units while Tekken 8 did it in under 3 weeks"

This is great result. I remember Tekken 6 and 7 didn't do well at full price. Tekken 7 needed deep discounts to move units.

Awesome start for the game.
I'm sure the team will be very happy that their efforts in offering a better overall package paid off.

Anyone has a source for this ?

I presume Benji relies on this tweet from Mochizuki, but even that tweet seems to quote an analyst, not Bandai Namco. I haven't found any other source.

Even if it was announced during the call, usually someone like Sal Romano or Giuseppe Nelva would have caught the info.

Bandai Namco recently updated their Q3 presentation with some notes. See Page 8:

correct me if im wrong, but google translate ( I know, not the best) interprets this as saying sales are approaching 2 million, rather than having actually sold 2 million.
You are right. "200万本に迫る勢い" doesn't mean it sold 2 million units, it means it sold close to 2 million units.

A bit of color added, from a Bamco’s Harada, on cross-gen.

In fact, there was a strong opinion from the business side that not releasing for PS4 and X1 platforms was a big risk in terms of reduced sales, and I was a bit scared to make the decision myself…But as a result, we have been competitive with titles in the same genre that have been released on more platforms than us, but only on next-generation consoles.

It is true they’re doing as well as genre competition without cross-gen. Maybe as important as cross-gen was for the past few years, this is the bit where it starts running out of steam for games like this.
