Switch 2 Launch - Market Watch

That means with March data as well there should already be around 2 million units shipped to the US. With 90 days more to ship to the US with lower tariffs. It’s looking more and more likely that the entirety of 2025 should be pretty safe when it comes to US and Canadian Switch 2 shipments.
Canada can take Chinese produced units. And even when shipments are filtered through the US, so long as Chinese product is loaded onto a locked truck trailer within the port authority area before heading to Canada, they’re not tariffed, because it’s just cross-shipping without exiting the duty-free area and the truck remains duty-free until the trailer is opened and unloaded.

EDIT: Just to add some clarity in case there’s disbelief, this method is the entire reason why Canada-Mexico trade has not been thrown into absolute chaos, as rail and truck shipments between the two countries have not been impacted for the same reason, rail cars and truck trailers do not incur tariffs if they remain sealed and are not unloaded within the US.

Based on empirical observation, both the European and the Japanese Amazon Best-Seller charts seem to be "frozen", they haven't refreshed since yesterday; therefore, better to wait until somebody, err, kicks the refresh back before checking them again 😅

Otto.de finally ran out of Switch 2 stock.

- The MKW bundle is completely sold out
- The standalone Switch 2 is technically still available, but only from a reseller at 900€ (lol) and not from Otto themselves.

In Sweden all major retailers still have stock of Switch 2 units. I think its a combination of high supply as well as the high price point (Sweden seems to have the highest price of Switch 2 of every country in the world).

Just wait until Latam prices become available. We are expecting anything from $600 to $800 USD.

For comparison in Costa Rica:

Switch: $360
Switch Oled: $450 to $500
PS5: $550 to $650.

By the way, it looks like somebody did, indeed, kick the refresh back and now the European and Japanese Best-seller charts are updating again.

EDIT: Beware that there seems to be some funkyness still though (big differences between ranking placements in the charts and what's stated on each game's listing).

It does ;)

Edit: same person is saying the comments that preorders are very very good.
It’s a bit premature, but it sure is just starting to look like Nintendo might have done what was thought impossible and launched a console to great success while consumer engagement in the prior hardware was still exceptionally high.

Beyond the region locking, I believe another measure Nintendo took to protect the Japanese market is to open preorders last there.

It is set for April 24th, that's a big reason why I am expecting the NA ones to open next week. Right after the Mario Kart Direct?

Just got me a pre-order for Switch 2

I feel so blessed!

Also in other words, is there a reason that the Nordic countries saw a big spike with the Switch 2, in terms of price? Is it the provider?

Probably. Nintendo products are distributed by bergsala there, there is no Nintendo subsidiary.

It's a combination of multiple things. For one, Sweden has a chemical tax on electronics. We have a high VAT at 25%. We also have "Copyswede" managing a private copying levy, basically a nonsense tax on any storage-based device, something that they frame as a reimbursement fee to allow private persons to circumvent copyright for non-profit/personal usage, but realistically is just them wanting to make money off of potential pirates. Like any levy/tax/etc. consumers are expected to eat the cost on all of this, so they bake it into the price.

And yes, Bergsala is of course another part of it, who are based in Sweden and presumably standardize the price across the Nordics. They no doubt -- presumably -- are taking a much higher cut for the sake of their margins. Regardless, all these factors mean it's not unusual to see the Nordics get hit on hardware; PS5 was technically a $599 console when Nordisk Film distributed it here.

That's pretty interesting, ngl. I'm just surprised, though I shouldn't be considering the PIF had a small stake in Nintendo at one point. (Maybe they still do? I know they lowered their investment.)

Still, expanding into emerging markets will be key for Nintendo this generation.

I think they own 4.194%

Middle East expansion was always meant to follow expansion in Southeast Asia, Furukawa committed to that on day one when he became president of Nintendo.

I wonder if US preorders will start in May by now, given the lack of info from Nintendo. US retailers may start taking preorders around 9th of May, the same time US My Nintendo store starts taking preorders.

I think we will know something after the MKW Direct

This is the availability of the MKW bundle on Amazon.it, as you can see it seems like limited quantities are made available every day.

Maybe this will tie into the US release too? It’s just a rumor for now though.

Almost definitely. The Canadian pre-orders were delayed to align with the US ones after all. To add more smoke to the fire, the blog post for Split Fiction indicates that pre-order for the launch title begin on the 24th. (Also, that GameShare works between a Switch 2 copy and a Switch 1 for the second player, which is pretty neat, but not entirely relevant to the launch).

I'm a bit confused -- why would Nintendo only produce/ship an "extremely limited" amount of Nintendo Switch 2 launch games?
Well, Mario Kart will be bundled with most units already most likely and their only other physical launch games are the two Zelda NS2Es (which most people will probably upgrade digitally). Those 3 physicals will probably be pretty conservative and it sort of makes sense.

Oh, right. For whatever reason, I thought the original poster was saying physical Nintendo Switch 2 games in general would be in limited supply at launch. If they were only talking about Nintendo-published games, that makes total sense. No reason to flood the stores with physical copies of those three Nintendo games if most folks are going to either get the game in a bundle (Mario Kart World) or buy digitally (the Zeldas).

I'm presuming we'll see pre-orders open next week, with the same price intact? in US and Canada

Even then, I'm very curios to see which markets will start to become big for the NS2, wouldn't surprise me, if we saw some surprising markets liking the Switch 2

Other then that, with the Mario Kart bundle, I think the Switch 2 is going to be a very successful launch
