• Switch 2 launch numbers

Nintendo just confirmed that the Switch 2 sold over 3.5m units in 4 days, making it the fastest selling console in history.

Official numbers are available in the following threads, globally, for Japan, for the UK, for Spain, for France

Switch 2 Launch - Market Watch [First numbers: UK >160K, Spain 108K, France 169K, all far above Switch 2017 launch]

Anyone know a good place to still get a pre-order in America?
I got (3) one from my GameStop, 1 from Walmart & 1 from my Nintendo. My co-worker is buying one from me so i don't have to worry about that but i would say at this point your best bet is a day one walk in purchase. I was trying to sell the extra one i pre-ordered & jeez....i had the post removed from reddit.. i was bombarded with "scamming" comments.. i was selling it at the cost i paid but buyer would pay for shipping & U.S. only but kinda shocking..... generally trying to help someone out & the negativity is just through the roof. But i have 2 now so one to play & one for my collection.

Also, by looking at the Movers & Shakers charts there's been a lot of upward movements for several Switch 2 games (and other platforms' games too) in the last few hours; if those changes stick, I'll provide an update to the "traditional" rankings watch as well.

Amazon preorders numbers in Japan!
not surprised that Cyberpunk is doing well on Japan, I think the appeal of playing a big AAA 9th gen game on the go and at home is very appealing (I know it's 8th gen game, but I think most folks consider it as a 9th gen game, with the inclusion of the DLC)

Even then, very excited to play this, especially with the whole game being physical, also SF6 Year 1-2 doing best on Switch 2, makes sense, since SF always been popular on Nintendo platform, plus it'll be many folks first outing on this game

other then that, everything seems quite normal

I wish Cyberpunk 2077 wouldn't be the only game like that at launch as it's impressive but not really appealing to me (looks very centered on North American audiences). Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade would have been this game to me but hey I'll wait, probably a September release

Rune Factory is lower than I expected.
Was thinking more in line with the Switch version, and that version being higher.

missed opportunity by Square Enix not letting FF7 Remake be a launch game for the Switch 2

I think most third party launch lineup for many consoles launches has been on the weaker side, since it's a brand new system, the only exciting third party launch titles for the NS2 are SF6 and Cyberpunk, meanwhile the rest are fine enough (I think Deltarune is gonna be big)

even then I think we'll start seeing bigger third party later on, specifically during the holidays, but as of now it's definitely one of Nintendo strongest

Maybe they could have done it if they had ported the PS4 version of the game, but going with the port of the PS5 "Intergrade" version means it probably requires more time to be ported over. It was probably the best solution to go with Intergrade on the long run but yeah, would have been a very strong launch game no doubt!

I don't think so, would require the same amount of work, I'm presuming it might be that they wanna let the port be a holiday game for the NS2

Even then I thin FF7 Remake is a nice get, but a predictable one, even then I think Elden Ring Tarnished edition is shaping up to be fascinating, considering it has more similarities to the PS5, for example vegetation being more sharp and nicer looking

Could also be that Nintendo wanted to wait on FF7 Remake and spread all the third party games... of course time will tell, since the June Direct is almost upon us, we even heard our first rumours

other then that, for a mainstream launch lineup for third parties, it's Nintendo strongest

I also think it's a strong 3rd party lineup for Nintendo, historically speaking. Cyberpunk is huge, Street Fighter and Hogwarts Legacy are pretty strong, Yakuza 0 gets exclusive content (26 minutes of additional cutscenes for example) and Rune Factory GoA is one of the rare games to be new at launch instead of a late port (Marvelous is managing this well, even going with a full card instead of GKC)

you're vastly overselling the differences between the two versions

A JP YouTuber estimates that the pre order sales of Switch 2 already reach 1.2M.

The number comes from serveal votes and Furukawa's 2.2M pre-order announcement.

No official numbers from Nintendo for the first day/week in Japan but according to Famitsu / Media Create they sold 360k Switch 1 during launch week so this Switch 2 number would be far higher, and obviously much higher than PS4 & PS5

If Nintendo is able to ship enough for launch, it should easily beat PS2's launch. We'll see how they prioritize allocation.

Don't understand what you mean.
I don't understand neither the original English or the translated content.
You can pre-orders the Switch in various retailers like Amazon, BIC Camera and through Nintendo own store.

When Nintendo announced 2.2m people looking to preorder, those people were looking to preorder directly in their store.

So I am assuming the analysis you shared took into account those 2.2m and the results of various pollings to estimate those that got in.

People that preorders elsewhere wouldn't be counted right?

I wonder how many units Costco will have, their current sale is quite nice ($525 for Mario Kart bundle + one year of NSO Expansion Pack).

No, the numbers include retailers (400k+) and My Nintendo(500k+200k).

He got the retailers number through a vote for his fans on where did they successfully get a Switch2. This will be a rough number.

Based on what I saw I feel like Europe got a lot of stocks from Nintendo, people seem to be able to get one relatively easily despite the strong demand.
I wonder if it's because Nintendo strongly believe in its sales potential in Europe or if it's because Chinese-made units originally made for the US market have been allocated to Europe instead

It feels like Nintendo underestimated the demand in Germany quite a bit. I know that France is their biggest market in Europe, but I feel like they could've relegated some of that France stock to Germany. It's fully sold-out here for quite some time now (unless I'm missing some available stock in one of the smaller shop).

Do we know how many Switch 1 have been sold in Germany? France reached 7 millions a few years ago IIRC

Amazon Canada
  • Base: 1,000+
  • MKW Bundle: 10,000+
Amazon Japan
  • Base: 600+
  • Base + SD card (Samsung): 10,000+
  • MKW Bundle: 40,000+
  • MKW Bundle + SD card (SanDisk): 10,000+

There have been weekly drops on Amazon.de every Wednesday like clockwork, they sold out between minutes and couple hours. MediaMarkt/Saturn had stock for a couple of weeks but have been put with no restocks since after Easter. There was 1 restock on Otto.de that was gone in less then an hour, Alternate and Euronics had one restock each but they were small. Other then that it‘s been completely dry in Germany for a while.

To be fair though, it was very easy to secure a preorder when they opened, and that for a couple of days even. It is just natural that these thigns sell out eventually.

I was coming to post this, the 10-to-1 ratio in Canada between the standard and bundle is wild. Not entirely unexpected, but maybe not a ratio that large.

EDIT: Amazon.ca software pre-orders:

DK Bananza - 1000+
MKWorld - 600+
Bravely Default HD - 100+
SF6 Years 1-2 Edition - 50+

All the NS2 Edition titles have 100+ each, as well.

The rest of the 3rd-party offering wasn’t listed on pre-order start date, so that info will come in about a week from now.

EDIT 2: Accessories:

Switch 2 Pro Controller - 3000+
Switch 2 Camera - 500+
Switch 2 AC Adapter - 300+

Can’t seem to find a listing for a pair of Joycon 2s though.

France is definitely closing in on 9M now. I'd guess Germany to be around 7.2-7.5M as that's right around the UK and obviously Germany is a stronger market at least for software.

Well, I do hope Switch really is close to 9 millions in France now. I wish Nintendo France would give us an updated number

If Nintendo sells 1.2M Switch 2 units at launch, that would mean that already day 1, Switch 2 would already have more than 1/3 of the Wii U's lifetime install base in Japan.

More than 280k in China have registered the reservations of Switch 2 via JingDong Hong Kong, as Switch 2 is not officially sold in China.

It is worth mentioning that there is no requirement for pre order. And I think this number is unreliable, the actual pre-order should be 80K cuz the growth speed.

However, selling 6K MK Switch 2 + Pro 2 Bundle in this store is a good sign.

In terms of the overall landscape of CN Mainland, it should be Temu 50K+, Taobao 10K+, JD 10K+ .

Reading mixed comments for Japan, is the general trend hardware = excellent, software = low ?
people don't have a switch 2 yet and aren't guarantee to have one due to lotteries. that's affecting the amazon listings the most. that an not the biggest games on the calendar so far

Difficult to really understand what the consensus is until after launch (for SW) MKW is likely going to be an evergreen title. A lot of the day one games are on other platforms & have been out for awhile so expectations shouldn’t be insane aside from the benefit of launching on NSW2; Rune factory may be the biggest title to benefit from launching on NSW/NSW2. Consumers likely have a TON of NSW titles in their current backlog so backwards compatibility will play a factor. While MKW is certainly a system seller & on paper it has a ton of content it’s not that huge meaty game that BOTW was.

This is slightly wrong as the store have yes some measures to prevent scalpers

One of those involve giving priority shipping to users who purchased Nintendo products since 2017

Seen some mention of Pre-Orders number for third party games being lower then expected... wouldn't it be likely that most folks will just get it day 1 on the Switch 2 Eshop? Then do buy it physically

For example I'm planning on getting SF6 on the Eshop day 1

Switch 2 is an interesting business case since most people are going with the bundle who is including the must-have game of the launch line-up.

Numbers for other games are not big, even if it varies from market to market, but they don't need to be in order to match/surpass expectations.

could the GKC aspect of things lead to a higher-than-usual (for a Nintendo console) digital ratio too?
going by the fact that the more we live, the more digital is growing (also on Nintendo), this "technical" aspect could even be an additional "push" toward this direction

It is entirely possible but we'll have to wait for conclusive data before reaching any conclusion.

Amazon.mx numbers

MK Bundle +2k
Stand-alone +50

Accessories
Joycon2 +100
Camera +100
Joycon Wheels +100
AC adapter +100
Micro SD 256GB +400
Pro Controller 2 +600

Games
Mario Kart +200

BotW +50
TotK +50
Bravely Default +50

Rune Factory, Story of Seasons, Daemon x Machina, Raidou, Sonic, Split Fiction, Yakuza and Puyo Puyo all available and without numbers, so I’m guessing <50 for all of them.

Cyberpunk doesn’t have number but it’s also OoS.

Finding interesting that there are more Mario Kart games being sold than Non bundled systems lmao, guess Amazon has very little stock of the non bundled system and it’s people getting the system elsewhere.

Also impressive DK numbers maybe Mexicans think it’s a launch title? Lmao

Also solid Pro Controller numbers.

Donkey Kong seems to be doing really well in pre-orders, but the lack od other 1st party non-bundled games makes it harder to estimate

Yesterday it was a bit higher at 900+ consoles and 5k+ MKW bundles.

Here's an updated table of what I saw so far on Amazon (first 30 days of preorders):
