Super Mario Bros. Wonder sold 4.3 million copies in its first 2 weeks

Mario has an installbase almost 3 times as much as SM2. And effortlessly is a weird description considering SM2 outsold Wonder despite the installbase difference.
Installbase means nothing for exclusives when it's over 40 million units. Smash Ultimate sold 14 million units on 40 million units of Switch, and Mario Odyssey sold 9 million on 15 million installbase.

Happy to see it succeed. As someone who dislikes 3D Mario (with the exception of 3D World), a new 2D Mario like this has been very welcome. I'm having a blast with it in 3 player local multiplayer with my nephew and niece. My niece is terrible at it, but it's been hilarious regardless. I hope this means Super Mario Bros. Wonder 2 will be with us in the next few years, and not at the end of the Switch 2 life cycle.

People keep saying this but its simply not true. Install base does matter for mass appeal games.

Install base does matter, but not drastically. Mario Party 10 technically has the highest attach rate out of all of the Mario Party games

Especially since those games are in different genres. That's why we don't encourage those comparisons over here.

There are plenty of more relevant titles to compare Spidey and Mario performances.
Pouring one out for poor Superstars. ( ._.)

Most? All! Nobody has access to Nintendo's digital sales.
yeh but certain sources like CESA have digital figures right? that's what I was referring to as the exception

CESA has access to overall shipment figures from Nintendo but not Nintendo's digital sales specifically.
oh right technically that does include digital sales, seemed they usually have sales not found anywhere else so I thought they actually had some digital sales without revealing them

They got the same number as everyone else, even you and I, since overall shipment figures from Nintendo are public information.

Not exactly, they also get info about games that did not sell more than 1M in the fiscal year and are not reported in their financials, but everything else is right, they don’t have access to actual digital splits just the total shipments.

Mario Wonder seems to be having a strong surge on Amazon which might indicate an extremely strong November. It is No. 1 in the US, UK, Canada, Spain, France. No. 2 in Germany and No. 3 in Japan (with 2 big releases about to come out).

Just got back from a visit to Target where I bought a copy of Mario Wonder for my wife for Christmas. I was there on a Friday at about 2:30. The cabinet was only 1/8 full of copies. The associate said since Black Friday, they‘ve been getting copies delivered every day and sold them all by the end of the day. Something is happening.

The usual disclaimer is that this being anecdotal and one location of a national retailer in the middle of Washington, DC, a top ten U.S. market, and also conveniently located on top of a Metro station,
