This is the thread to discuss the upcoming Summer events which will be spread over the upcoming weeks.

Current schedule

Playstation & Marvelous (6PM EST/11PM BST, May 30th)

Summer Game Fest Showcase (5PM EST/11PM CEST, June 7th)

Xbox Showcase (3PM EST/9PM CEST, June 9th)

Also, the rule remains to keep the leaks to spoiler discussions until the events air, please. This is to allow folks to engage in this thread without necessarily getting everything ruined by leaks for them.

So, what are your hopes and dreams ?

My forever hope is Mother 3. Hopefully they pull a Wii U-era EarthBound moment where Mother 2 was announced in a February Direct and then EarthBound in an April one. I'm still a fool clinging on to hope.

My dreams: remakes of Terranigma and Mother 3 with announced western localization.

EDIT: Great minds think alike @JB2448

For Xbox, hoping to see some stuff from their core studios / franchises like:
1. Gears
2. Deepdive into Fable
3. I know we won't get it, but I'd die for 343 to say what they're working on
4. Sure, why not a little bit of detail on South of Midnight, State of Decay 3, Perfect Dark or Contraband.
5. Release date for Towerborne

Bethesda, I'm excited to learn more about Starfield: Shattered Space. If id or Zenimax online show up with their new games, great. I don't need to see more about Indiana Jones, but I guess that will be there.

ABK:
1. What's the Diablo 4 expansion / why should I care?
2. Will the new CODBLOPS be fun for my wife?

For starters I hope to see JP games from the State of Play (the timing is encouraging) with probably a reveal on what Wilds brings to the table vs World/Rise. For Marvelous, they need to nail Story of Seasons which potential got kneecaped because of questionable quality.

I think the PC games show might be interesting. Wouldn't be surprised to see some Final Fantasy port news at that one. Maybe a 16 shadowdrop?

Marvelous just listed their game lineup and um... there's apparently a Pokemon game??

Project Magia, the one with Hiro Mashima character designs, is called Farmagia.

I think it's ポケットモンスター in japanese.

Concord will launch on PS5 and PC on August 23, 2024. There will be a beta in July.
God of War Ragnarok is coming to PC on September 19, 2024.
Dynasty Warriors Origins has been announced. Will arrive in 2025.
Infinity Nikki announced, will have a test in Q3 2024.
Ballad of Antara announced, releases in 2025.
Skydance's Behemoth launches on PSVR2 in Fall 2024.
Alien: Rogue Incursion launches on PSVR2 this Holiday 2024.
Marvel Rivals will have a closed beta in July 2024.
Where Winds Meet announced.
Until Dawn comes to PS5 and PC in Fall 2024.
Path of Exile II will launch in early access in Fall 2024.
Silent Hill 2 arrives on October 8, 2024.
Monster Hunter Wilds arrives in 2025.
Astro Bot arrives on PS5 September 6, 2024.

The state of play was good by the standards of "State of Play". People will judge it as a big e3 style show given the time of year though and say it was bad.

Sony seem to really be pushing Concord, that had about a third of the show to itself. I think it looks pretty good but you need to do a lot more to stand out in that space, and funny they showed a direct competitor in the same show.

Astro Bot looks absolutely delightful, can't wait.

I hope Astro Bot sells well, we need more of those.

Im going to install the Astro Bot free demo. If I like the demo enough then I'm gonna buy the game.

Because holy fuck Astro Bot looks cool.

Monster Hunter Wilds and Astro Bot for me were like "Finally, some good fucking food."

Concord occupied way too much time, but I also thought they were showing Helldivers 2 way too often at various presentations before launch and it ended up working for them so 🤷‍♂️
Outside of that the show was just... fine. I would've liked more new announcements rather than stuff that was already known (which I believe is the same critique I've had for the last handful of Sony presentations including the last showcase)

By the way if Concord is in August and Astro Bot in September, then what is Sony's holiday release if they have one?

Woah it's an absolute crime to have a PS5 and not played Astro's Playroom. It's an amazing little game!

Until Dawn should be October. Beyond that, they typically don't have a nov/dec release

I didnt pay attention to it. I heard it was good and I did hear about the Astro Bot rumor, but I didn't care much.

Until now.

Downloading Astro's Playroom as we speak.

Astro Bot looks cool and comes out soon, the highlight of the show. Concord looked ok but the trailer was dumb, and it's just another hero shooter. Ballad of Antara looked cool, and Monster Hunter Wilds was cool.

But as far as PlayStation games only, I thought it was lackluster. And I don't understand what the rest of the year is gonna be for them.

Dynasty Warriors looks a lot better than 9 visually, but it's such a question mark. PSBlog has a few more snippets, one I'm cautiously optimistic about (mentioning more tactical elements and gameplay, something that was very present but always underappreciated in the PS2 games, cut down in the PS3 games after some experimenting in 6, and completely absent from 9), and one I'm very uncertain of (it sounding like the custom protagonist is the only playable character). The cast of Dynasty Warriors has always been a big draw, and giving that up for deeper combat with one character is an enormous risk.

Little worried about the music too. MASA left Koei Tecmo the other year, and while it's not like he was their only guitarist, a DW without that familiar metal would be beyond jarring.

Astro-Bot looks absolutely fantastic... and 80 levels? It's gonna be a chunky boy. Apparently the cameo bots will be actual characters that will play a part on the adventure now. I'm in, it was literally the only thing that made me interested in that whole thing, I'm glad they chose to close it with it.

The only good parts of the SoP were the 30 seconds of actual "gameplay" of MHW in between the in-engine footage and Astro Bot (looked great).
Concord looks like a copy paste of a bunch of popular things 5 years ago to me and it went on forever but this is no indication it will fail, infact it may even become quite a success.

very curious how Omega Force evolves the gameplay for Dynasty Warriors. that's a lot of fuckin troops

Monster Hunter's art direction is garbage

Story of Seasons and Rune Factory looks like they're gonna be baller

My thoughts on the new MH monsters are as follows.

"He's so ugly! I LOVE HIM!"

Astro Bot looks really good.

If it was f2p I would hesitate to say how Concord would do, but as a paid title I'm dead certain it's bound to fail.

Just Astrobot and Concord plus some smaller console exclusives like SH2R and ZZZ. Heavily reliant on non-first party this year.

God of War: Ragnarok's PC port will require a PSN account. I dunno if the game has any online elements, but again:

Take the L on Helldivers 2, be upfront about PSN requirements on all of your games going forward. That's the plan.

I wonder when they would announce the rumored PS5 Pro and what game is suppose to be the system seller for it? If it's coming this year I don't see any big hook to get people to upgrade.

I honestly liked most of what I saw, even though it wasn't the most exciting show. Path of Exile 2, Monster Hunter, Astro Bot, and Ballad of Antara all look fantastic! The Silent Hill 2 trailer was also a big improvement over the last.

If Astro Bot hadn't been there to save the day, wooooof.

Sad Concord didn't seem neat to me, would have been cool to see something make Overwatch sweat.

Marvelous Showcase 2024 is just a rehash of the 2023 one. Other than Farmagia name reveal and adding some trailers for indies they're publishing, they pretty much have nothing really new to show. Kind of frustrating they avoid showing platforms as well, even for the indies like Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus despite us already knowing the platforms. Didn't realize Bo was announced for PS5/XBS as well. I thought they never reached that goal on Kickstarter, so I'm guessing Humble Games and Marvelous pushed for it despite it failing the goal. Could've just put it in the Showcase instead of making people search for the platform news.

i barely knew this happened lol. no news of concern emerged for me.

so sony deliberately kind of bowed out of having a "e3 like" type of show i guess? is microsoft june 9 still excepted to be that level at least i presume?

e3 time has gotten worse and worse for me over the yrs and now it's totally gone i guess. pending ms show which i dont expect much but i hope is better.

welp, this is what people wanted! I'm glad i guess in that e3 time got too hyped for me (i know i could have just, not let myself get hyped) so it's better to not look forward to it. but i guess it's getting old too. for me e3 peak was about 2006-8 (lets say whenever gears of war was shown) and gone steadily downhill

Yes the “sense of realism” as my character glows like they have every Power Stone & juggling enemies in the air like a circus act.

from what I am reading it doesn’t sound too interesting but we can only wait and see

wondering this too. i'm guessing it will be announced at september if it's still coming this year. it seems 100% certain it's coming, just will it be 2024 or delayed to 25. i normally always bet video games will be delayed, but in this case i think it's about 50-50.

i'm not at all of the mind they need a specific game to justify it but i'm sure they'll have something

Rumor is the HZD remake is for PS5 Pro launch

Sony doesn't really do e3 anymore but Microsoft still goes all in for better and worse.

Astro Bot… my heart! If you haven’t played astros playroom please do! It’s such a charming gaming. Stoked on a physical release for Astro Bot.

Downloaded it, though I'll be playing later. Here's the box tho:

Also Sony actually has something going with Astro Bot here. I didn't know the franchise began with Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which was a really well-recieved PSVR title. That led into Astro's Playroom which was also incredibly well-recieved for showcasing the PS5's features as well as honoring PlayStation's history. Now it's getting a shot with a full mainline title - one that ended a State of Play, no less. Plus many say the game was the best (or only good) part of the show.

There's probably something to say about the last remaining remnants of Japan Studio producing a game that stood out visually and tonally from the rest of the State of Play. Could also make for some interesting comparisions with the other two consoles. But I'm getting way, way too ahead of myself. I'll watch Astro's Playroom with great interest. Among other games this FY, too. Sony says they have no major AAA franchises, so the door's open for a breakout hit.

Team Asobi have emphasized that they want their games to “feel” Japanese (even though the head of the studio is French) and thats kind of what this appears to be. It gave me a lot of Kirby And The Forgotten Land/Odyssey vibes.

Forgotten Land's a good comparison, actually! I heard people compare this to Super Mario Odyssey but FL sounds more fitting!

Also I looked at the PlayStation blog for Astro and the amount of people disappointed that the game isn't on PSVR2 was surprising. Guess it's a testament to the first game's quality.

Monster Hunter Wilds, from everything they have shown of it so far from the first reveal to this trailer...

It's just an ugly looking game. All the technical flourishes are wasted on this setting and I would say exacerbated by poor art direction.

50 shades of brown might be accurate and realistic for the location but harkens back to the days of PS3.

The light bounce and all that might make the DF guys all hot and bothered but the stuff the light is bouncing onto is still brown and drab.

All the volumetric effects are pointless because they are contrasted against more brown backgrounds.

Same with all the post processing stuff like heat haze, depth of field and motion blur. Barely any contrast so hardly noticeable.

All the granular details in the rocks are ignored because they are just rocks.

The foliage looked billboarded and moved in segmented patches.

Water puddle showing off reflections is okay but when the croc jumps out the splash and ripple effect are almost out of PS2 gen.

Hair physics on monsters, clothes physics, draw distances and particles are good but nothing we haven't seen before.

Not the jump over World I was hoping for and I know RE Engine can deliver and all because of the choice of where to set the game.

Still, same setting but is more visually interesting.

/rant.

P.S. Capcom will probably have this game ready for Switch 2 within the launch window.

This is as close to Japanstudio we will get & I will take it. Really looking forward to this!

Wilds and Astro looked great. Interested in Musou Origins, POE2 and Nikki too.

Concord was a snooze though, dunno about that one tbh.

I feel like the direction Capcom went with Wilds visually is due to them targeting a Switch 2 release, but I might be wrong. I'm betting this is why it doesn't feel like that massive of an upgrade over World.

I truly hope people vote with their wallets for this one. It seems like a very meaty game from how they described on the ps blog and it clearly has very high production values, so the usual excuses for not buying platformers for full-price are outside the window.

It's just great to see somebody that's not Nintendo making an AAA platformer, we need more of those but people need to show up to them too.

I think the PC games show might be interesting. Wouldn't be surprised to see some Final Fantasy port news at that one. Maybe a 16 shadowdrop?
They said that the would release a demo for FF16 at least two weeks before
