Maybe because negativity. Game received got huge negative spike on Steam around Christmass.

Sons of the Forest was the sequel to the Forest, it had a major launch.

Maybe because negativity. Game received got huge negative spike on Steam around Christmass.

Trending because of the negative articles to the Steam's "last 30 days" rating.
It's at 31% and will probably fall to 30% or below tomorrow as the last of the Steam GotY days (November 28th).

To put everything in full context, the game was at 43% for the last 30 days pre-November 21st.
It got "boosted" to 55-56% due to the Steam GotY voting week. Now it's doing generally worse than in October/early-mid November.

Just a continuing slide in terms of Steam reception for the game. Let's see what the 2024 updates can bring.

What is the general opinion about analytic sites like https://gamalytic.com? The site is using an interestic algorith which seems to be more accurate than usual ones which are often based on extrapolating by multiplying the amount of reviews. The numbers are not perfect when comparing the leaked numbers by Sony with the numers provided by gamalytic but they are close and in some cases almost matching. There is also an interesting differentiation between owners and sales numbers which impacts the revenue numbers. I got a free key for the Last of Us Part One when buying an AMD GPU and I know that similar promotions happen all the time ( I think it happened with Horizon Zero Dawn too). And maybe 3rd Party figures also included like this.

Hogwarts Legacy is at 4.9M sold with a revenue of 250M $, Starfield is at 1.7M sold with a revenue of 109M $ and Sons of the Forest is at 6.7M sold with a revenue of 171M $. I think it´s more realistic to assume that Platinum games are at 100M $+ and Gold games at 50M $+. This assumption matches with two other (gold) game figures provided by the page: EA Sports FC 24 at 1.6M with a revenue of 72.7M$ and Resident Evil 4 at 2M with a revenue of 90.7M$.

One example where the numbers seem to be off is Lethal Company: 8.4M sold with a revenue of 77.8M $ seems to be a little too much

Lethal Company is an extreme outlier that screws up with whatever equation they use because the game started having a huge increase of popularity in the first week of November and rose tremendously in subsequent weeks.
Which meant that when people voted for the Steam GotY during the week of 21st to 28th(review to nominate).

You can see that quite clearly if you go on the Steam Page and look at the review numbers for that particular week.
55k~ the week before had 11k~ reviews.

Any game that gets reviewed higher than normal because of some sort of "Hype" from the greater gaming community is going to be massively inflated numbers.

Ah that makes sense, thank you for pointing that out.

Pretty good estimates, might be worth keeping an eye on. Lethal Company does not seem to erroneous. Definitely lines up with my band estimates of Silver being $50-75M.
