Rebirth its higher on both rankings despite Tekken being on PC and Xbox, i dont get what are you trying to say

Not sure why, but I thought the ranking referred to in the discussion was the PS Store 2024 ranking rather than the Circana one. Don't pay attention to my observation from earlier then. 😅

Didn't see this get posted about, but as part of SE's restructuring they will be implementing a new management structure from April 2025, and as part of the restructure a number of Director's on the board have been demoted, most notably Yoshi-P and Yosuke Saito have been demoted from their Director positions on the board and are only in their Executive Officer position now. Kitase and Miyake are the only ones besides Kiryu who was previously Director who are staying as Directors. Yoshi-P, Saito and the other demoted Directors are now in an "Executive Management Committee" to help achieve their medium term business plan.

Weren't some of them just promoted last year to the board of directors?

Thats true, Rebirth its higher on Europe too. Now with the PC sales, if Tekken 8 its on 3M, i expect Rebirth to be much more.

Do you know where Tekken 8 finished in the EU sales charts for 2024? I know it didn't finish in the top 20 and Rebirth was just inside the top 50. Can't seem to find any data from outside the top 20 other than selected titles like Outlaws, Rebirth and Veilguard.

Dring didnt talk about Tekken 8 ranking, so i imagine its under Rebirth.

With Bandai Namco recently confirming that Tekken 8 hit 3 million copies worldwide around it's anniversary at the end of January 2025, that provides strong evidence that FF7 Rebirth hit at least that number on PS5 given it ranked higher than Tekken 8 in the YE sales charts in the US and comfortably higher in Japan in 2024.

With PC game sale estimations on Gamalytic and VG Insights putting it somewhere between 469k and 959k respectively after 5 weeks, it's possible that Rebirth could be quite close to 4 million copies sold right now. Not great, but somewhere between 5 and 6 million before Part 3 releases in 2-3 years wouldn't be out of the question, especially if it gets an Xbox and Switch 2 release.

Thanks for this. There was speculation / soft leaks on it hitting that but it is great to have some additional triangulation on it.

Really want to see it happening on this Switch 2 event, curious about Nintendo marketing can work out for a Remake of FFIX and if it will have an effect on sales(go higher)

FFIX has now shipped+digitally sold 8.9 million worldwide.
2000年に発売され、全世界で累計出荷・DL販売本数890万本以上を記録する

Wow! The PSX original was 5.5m total so the PS Classics and multiplatform remaster releases have moved 3.4m.

5.5m includes the mobile port and psone Classics on PS3/PSP, no?
5.08m is at least verified PS1 only (by 2003).

FF9 deserves it. The Remake will probably be very successful if they do it right. :)

The Japanese eShop page description claims it was at 6 million back when the Switch port launched (the English one mentions "over 5 million", while the Xbox description mentions 5.5)
2000年に発売され、全世界で累計出荷本数600万本以上を誇るロールプレイングゲーム「FINAL FANTASY IX」が、ついにNintendo Switchでプレイ可能となりました!

FINAL FANTASY IX, a role-playing game released in 2000 that has shipped more than 6 million units worldwide, is finally playable on Nintendo Switch!

Its not that Square Enix is wasting a marketing slot, i just think games like FF IX remake or DQ 12 are still some way off.

I just hope SE has something big to show tomorrow
even DQ, despite being a 2026 game at the earliest, would vastly benefit of being showcased on the Switch 2 first reveal - they even announced DQXI coming to "NX" so I can see them trying to "jump on the Switch 2 bandwagon" lol

FF Remake for 2025, Rebirth for 2026, and the third one teased, all in one Direct. You just have to believe hard enough.

Hmm. A shame, should that pan out as such, but it’ll be ready when it’s ready.

In any case, this showcases that they have a commitment to the title maintaining mindshare - as well they should, with the remake en route.

Almost sure that they will show VII Remake there, it would be cool and help a lot of if they shown a game like KH4 or DQXII there too

Considering their potential schedule releases in the future, I would put FF9 like 2 years away. But better to miss the anniversary and deliver something fantastic.

I would consider SE a lock for Wednesday, if we were to get something new maybe a tease of DQ12. Since 1&2 did not get dates, they could pair their release dates and more info on DQ12 on Dragon quest day in May like they did last year were we got the logo and platforms for 3

It's hardly a waste of marketing if the game isn't even ready to begin its marketing cycle, which it isn't if it isn't even planned to be shown this year.

Assuming, you know, the insider is right about this.

Sometimes building early momentum even if it's far from release is good, SMTV on NSW or FFVII Remake on PS4 took a ton of times to materialize but they were there to both indicate commitment from the publisher and drum up hype for the game by being alongside the next new thing (let's not even talk about DQXII that was a marvelous gif).

So even if a game project isn't scheduled to release before 2027 a reveal could still happen.

I have 0 clue about it of course, just saying that it can have some merit (Nintendo could also push for that for some key partners titles)

if SE is going to be on Switch 2 reveal only with the port of a 2020 game I'd see them worsening compared to what they have had/done for the NX - announcing DQXI coming and Octopath as a relevant exclusive game had more impact imho

SMTV's platform strategy worked out quite well. They benefited from Nintendo showing off the original game in a direct and publishing it in Europe, and got a second wave of hype and another Direct reveal when they brought the game to other platforms with Vengeance. I wonder if SMTVI will have timed exclusivity, or just get revealed in a Direct and come to every platform simultaneously.
