Batek Kaitos fans...rejoyce!
As for previous thread info

Baten Kaitos on GC in 2005 sold 5.000 copies in few months
So these numbers are bonkers (and in line with its Japanese and French first week, apparently)

Ouch, if Vandal does not mention Super Bomberman R 2 is because it has bombed real hard.

I don't really know how Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 sold so well, comparatively. I know BKO wasn't released in PAL regions but still, Namco did almost no promo on the game (for the record I am not complaining).

that is mind boggling. especially given that the original games didn’t even do that well in spain. nice surprise

edit: it nearly sold more here than in japan 😭 spain saving BK!!

I somewhat dislike doing this because this forum talks too much about Xenoblade as is but I suspect one potential explanation for these sales (on top of Spain's generally solid JRPG audience) is the fact that, as far as I've seen, pretty much every Spanish gaming site, youtubers, etc that covered Baten Kaitos remaster emphasized or at least mentioned that the games were originally developed by Monolith Soft, "creators of Xenoblade". I have no way of knowing if this helped or by how much but I think it's a bit of a factor.

In fact I didn't want to mention it but I thought it was weird how they never tried to use this during marketing, not even during the Direct reveal (they could have also included Tri-Crescendo in the mix of course). They do this sort of thing sometimes, for example I remember that whenever Nintendo covered Sea of Stars they made sure to mention that Yasunori Mitsuda, "composer of Chrono and Xenoblade", had made songs for the game, evidently in an effort to garner more attention. The studio's renewed and generally positive image they have accrued during the last decade should have been a boon for the game, sort of like Armored Core with Fromsoft , though to a much lesser extent obviously.

When you look at how well Xenoblade 3 performed in Spain, this is indeed a valid explanation.

BN dropped the ball on the marketing for sure, there was a potential angle that went underused.

I think the "new king" will reallly be Paper Mario TTYD. It is one of the most sought after games in the gamecube catalog and one of the hardest to find (and most expensive).

Seams we are coming to the end of Starfield boost.

Mighty, mighty impressive debut for Baten Kaitos I+II. It blew apart my most optimistic expectations. That said, it looks to be heavily skewed towards retail, considering it's only managed to reach #71 so far on the Spain + Portugal eShop chart. And while that seems to be the general pattern across European eShops, in France, where the game faced severe stock problems, it managed to reach an exceptionally high placement at #6 (!). Thus I wonder whether at least a small part of this high result owes to imports from France. I'm also curious about how many of these units ended up in the hands of scalpers. I'm not trying to discredit the amazing debut of a game which I love, just trying to make sense of all the little bits of information that we now have.

and Baten Kaitos I+II at #71 (seems like pretty much everyone opted for retail; let the speculation games begin!).

71./00. Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster {2023-09-14} (EUR 49,99)
I forget if I mentioned that last week but maybe worth noting again, Spain had a cool exclusive promotion with a bonus steelbook. No other country offered this steelbook or anything similar as far as I know.

There're better titles than Battle Kaitos for scalpers these weeks. Any NISA game for example.
Bandai Namco usually don't fall short of stock. No issues to buy Digimon games, Klonoa or Pac-Man World years later.

Edit: On the other hand, that steelbook can be a good prize for collectors.

could be yours for only 3-4 times the price of the game on eBay (and of course not including the game, just the steelbook lol)

Ok, thanks for the additional context. I didn't know about the steelbook, that must've helped quite a bit, no doubt. And @tolkir it seems like the game is still on stock pretty much everywhere, so you are right.

And yet that #71 placement in the eShop (in a week in which not that many games were discounted, and thus the entry threshold wasn't particularly high, as indicated by huge leaps for evergreens) is quite striking. Since I began compiling the ES weekly eShop charts two years ago, this is the most lopsided launch that I remember.

I think Rain Code had a similar behaviour when it released. I don't know if there were digital sales in that moment.
Many Spanish users still prioritize physical releases on Switch, even more if it's single player, full price and with the entire game on the card. (Besides, if it exists some collector edition or a good preorder gift, it's the perfect storm)

Retail is usually 20% cheaper than digital (60€ vs 42-46€) that’s imo the biggest factor of spanish big physical ratio for Switch games. I would imagine is a similar case for PS5

Incredibly aggressive bundle from Playstation, should do very well over the next weeks.
Microsoft is doing the same thing. Not an oficial bundle because they can't do it, of course, but they are selling the Series S + FC 24 for 274€ and the Series x + FC 24 for 499€ on Amazon.es. and giving away FC 24 on all their hardware packs.

That Series X price hike in Europe sure was short lived. August 1st until now.
I guess they wanted to extract a bit more money from people wanting to play Starfield, but sales stayed anaemic.

Only four days, Amazon exclusive and zero promotion isn't the same thing. Impact will be minimal like the Starfield launch.

The third year is the year when Sony's Slim version arrive at a reduced price. In this generation we are in the third year and there are no Slim version on the horizon. Sony is therefore acting with price cuts, considering they also have the ambitious goal of reaching 25 million consoles distribuited.
With price cuts and Spiderman 2 they will do huge numbers. I don't know if it will be enough to reach 25 million, but the numbers will be huge, it will certainly exceed 20 million consoles distributed.

PS5
Q1+July-August = ~6M

PS4
Q1+July-August = ~4.1M
Shipping - 20M
Sales - ~18.8M

Sony has no choice, it will have to ship at least 10M in Q3.
