From PS.blog,

The broadcast will be over 40 minutes long, and feature guest appearances from some of the most talented minds in gaming. Among many other updates, we’ll feature extended looks at Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two great games coming to PS5 this year. And we’ll give you a new look at other titles coming to PS5 and PS VR2 in 2024 and beyond.

I can't believe Sony is still promoting Stellar Blade, the game has no sales upside (it's just a Bayonetta clone from a dev that sucks at making games) and the dev is just so openly hostile to women that there's a decent bit of downside risk of blowback to the larger company.

Just kill it now, I don't care how long you've funded this piece of shit, it was all worthless and you should stop now before you have to spend money advertising it.

If the rumours are true then it will be a pretty good show overall, although not enough new announcements for my taste (and the ones that are there are mostly remasters and VR stuff that doesn't interest me)

I think its sales will be more DMC than Bayonetta (ie multi-millions), it just has a lot more buzz than Bayo 3 ever did while we still know very little about it. Plus, in an era where Sony is kind of known for forcing devs to tone down some of the more risqué content, them publishing a game with so much sexualization seems to have drawn attention and generated discourse in quite a few places online, both positive and negative (and we all know any publicity is good publicity).

There is no need for Playstation to have more publicity, it, Nintendo, Steam, and Apple make up basically all of gaming at this point. You do the "all publicity is good publicity" thing when you're a small company trying to get any attention. Playstation will probably not benefit from a controversy about giving hundreds of millions of dollars to a company that fires women who make any political statements.

And the game probably won't hit DMC levels because the devs of Nikke fucking blow at making video games and have no experience in this genre.

Playstation will likely avoid blowback simply because no one in games media covers South Korea currently, but the risk/benefit is still really bad because there's almost no chance this game hits.

I’m not trying to be insensitive toward this but Hogwarts already proved a vast majority of people do not care about this kind of stuff.

Stellar Blade is a nothing title in a nothing genre in which one franchise ever has shown consistent success and the game is from one of the worst developers in the world.

"What if Bayonetta was made by a dev that sucks at making video games" is not likely to be a big hit.

It’s more like what if Bayonetta had a AAA budget and first party marketing and publishing from SIE. Ultimately the game still has to play good but thats about where the concerns generally stop for most people

Shift Up's artists draw like an AI trained on Nomura tried to kill itself after receiving too many porn requests, but only managed to lobotomize the neurons that had drawing ability. Their programmers and designers don't seem much better.

From the rumours and the obvious size metrics, this looks to be the most stacked State of Play ever.
I wonder if its a change of strategy, this is the first one with Herman writing the blog post.

Silent Hill 2 is also a little weird to moneyhat as this game is almost certainly going to be a trainwreck and the IP isn't popular at all, but IDK, I guess you have to spend money on something.

Looking forward to this. Sony 1st party hasn't been doing it for me so a third party focused show might be more my jam.

Forgot to mention in my first reply, but yeah, I remember reading about the employee treatment stuff and that's definitely horrendous behaviour and needs to be fixed (but let's be honest, it's from the higher-ups, so no chance).

At the same time, why are you so adamant about them not knowing how to make games? If I'm not mistaken this is their first console game, so you don't really have anything to base that on - this is their chance to prove themselves.

It would be nice if the language used could be toned down a little. One might not like the type of games Shift Up makes and that’s totally fine. We know very well the problems of South Koreas gaming industry.
But Shift Up does indeed know how to make games, NIKKE it the prime example for that because beside the questionable art many people seem to praise or atleast commend the writing and the gameplay.
And even if I would not necessarily have partnered with this studio I find it good that Sony finally invest in Asia developers again.
I’m very hyped for Rise of the Ronin and hope for the best. Everything more is a bonus.

Silent Hill 2 trailer in the PlayStation Channel have more that 10 million views and the original Silent Hill 2 is considered to be one of the best games of all time.

Im sure that if the game is good it will do pretty well

Whilst there were still some cross-gen games back in 2015, the first and third-party games like Arkham Knight, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, Just Cause 3, Mortal Kombat X, Dying Light, Project Cars, AC Syndicate, Zombie Army Trilogy, Until Dawn, The order 1886 and Bloodborne were all exclusive to the current gen at that time.

2024 feels more like 2015 in terms that more and more games are current-gen only. I hope the trend increases this year.

40 mins look meaty, I hope is decent, a lot of previous SoP were pretty lackluster.

Ok, clearly you seem to have some personal grievances with this game and its developer, because that posting is not normal, wth. On one hand, people condemn AI art, now you compare human art to AI just because you don't like it. That's unfair no matter how you look at it.

I'm not a fan of character action-games, but Stellar Blade looks good enough imo and it being PS5-exclusive makes for a more interested sales entity to watch. Btw is there a PC-port planned or ist it a full-on Sony-exclusive?

The current rumor is that Stellar Blade would get a Q2 release, maybe even April so that's something to look forward to. Nice to see a niche genre being explored and for a non-traditional studio to get a shot at worldwide success.

I'd be really damn surprised if there isn't a PC port planned given how PC-centric South Korea gaming is in general.

Oh, surely will watch it.

Game isn't out yet and you surely have something personal towards that game

Dev is one of the top publishers on mobile. I think Sony is hoping Stellar Blade will help capture some of that audience in Asia.

They aren't. NIKKE is published by Tencent. There's only published title is Destiny Child. NIKKE's success is largely predicated on being a worldwide launch with Tencent's advertising budget. Without that, it would be nowhere the top like Destiny Child was (they shut it down in September 2023). If you exclude China, Tencent isn't a particular big publisher either. There's many horny mobile games but, they tend to be only middling revenue wise with the only other ones that consistently ranks high being Azur Lane and Please President. NIKKE does continue to rank high but, I don't think the same dev will convert Asian gamers to console. Also NIKKE came out well after the announcement of Stellar Blade.

However, the broadcast in Japan will be on the next day, February 1.

Yep, but I don't expect a shadow drop the day of the State of Play anyway. I expect an announcement of the demo with the date given, which will be two weeks before the release of the game. Just like Final Fantasy XVI.

I'm actually shocked Sony keeps showing this much Stellar Blade, it just looks terrible beyond how awful the devs are. I know you spent a lot of money on this, but uhh, let it die? Love to try to tie my brand to Shift Up so I can publish a 68 Metacritic game that sells 12 copies.

Stellar Blade looked really nice. Literally the Palworld of Nier Automata ;D Only weird things is that Sony of all would highlight such a "sexy" game, waiting for some sort of caveat in the Western version ;(

Now waiting for those PSVR2-announcements. This is kinda the do-or-die event for PSVR2.

Edit: And Foamstars still looks boring. No idea what SE is thinking. If you want in on the Splatoon-money, do it better ...

Sonic x Shadow Generations looks so cool and as long as the port quality isn't Sonic Colors Ultimate tier bad then it's day fucking one for me. On PS5.

Finally, I can play this game. I played Colors so much as a kid but I've always wanted to play Generations.

Man, I like all the Bioshock's settings/designs ... but at the end of the day, they're all the same frantic arena-like shooters that I have zero interest in. :( Ken Levine should make movies.

Edit: I know this is a me-problem again, but man, all these games look so "been there, done that". Really wish there were some more creative AAA-games. Gimme "The Last Guardian" for PC at least >_>

Edit 2: This is just stupid. People need to stop praising Kojima :/
