March is estimated to have been around half of all Quarter 1 sales, meaning March was around equal to January + February. If you compare the months, that's clear.

Notes
All consoles still sell out instantly.

April is a significant decrease from March. For PS5 it's estimated to be the lowest month yet at this point while XBS is better than the early year performance. The gap between both platforms is close.

DONE!

Finally took the time to finish up the remaining early months of the generation. Now this should be a near 99% record of every drop for the PS5/XBS since launch.

Having this kind of record is something that barely exists for previous consoles and I'm glad to have done so here, and will continue to. So much of the prior generations are not properly recorded that it's a pain to look back at previous results and not know what impacts actually occurred beyond blind assumption that everything was stable.

Figured this would be a comparison worth looking at

Great work!

Still see the Series X in stock on Amazon UK, now at #3 on best sellers (#1 PSN card, #2 Xbox Live credit, #4 Nintendo eshop credit). Kinda crazy that it's been in stock since Friday.

Ps5 disc edition in stock on Amazon UK. Will be interesting to see where it ends up in the charts.

Now the Digital edition.

Disc didn't last long, neither did Digital

PS5 and PS5DE sitting at #1 and #3 respectively on Amazon chart at the moment. Assume they will drop down fairly quickly unless it was a large shipment.

"Massive" how? Like 400k units for march US only?
Imagine if these Walmart drops were only selling 2,000 units or something 🙃

I think if anything, Series X should easily clear +100K this month. How close it gets to 200K depends on if this Walmart thing keeps up and we see more drops at other retailers.

How much longer do you think it will last? or could it be possible that supply has caught demand?

No idea but demand isn't satisfied until every major retailer has consistent supply. Walmart is the only retailer that has good supply right now. Nothing at Amazon, GameStop is only All Access, Best Buy and Target are highly dependent on region. For example, Series S is at every Target in my area yet not a single Series X.

I'm not expecting crazy, massive amounts. What I mean by it is it's just a higher number than the paltry amounts that we have gotten in the past. So, instead of, say 50k/month, maybe it's 100k this time.

So Series X has more units than PS5 this drop. Overall right now, XBS > PS5 on Amazon UK. Series X ahead of PS5 and both Series S combined would pass the PS5 DE.

That's quite crazy that PS5 sold pretty much the same amount in a few minutes as Series X in about a week of being in stock.

I think it really shows there's a critical mass with demand on these things, while there's still a lot of demand everyone has to rush to get it while they can. There's lots of bots and alerts going on so people can get to stock drops within a few minutes. But as soon as stock starts to last beyond that initial rush, there's suddenly no need for the initial rush and the console becomes much easier to get.

I don't believe PS5 demand is this much higher than Series X, they're just either side of this critical mass point at the moment.

For NPD, there will be 1 1/2 weeks additional tracking. Plenty of time for Series X|S to sell additional units.
Demand is higher for PS5, but supply is higher for Series X|S

I believe at the end of the month, Xbox Series X will increase the lead over PS5 slightly and Series S will overtake PS5 DE on Amazon.co.uk
The Fortnite Bundle will be additional units.

Sony had to ship a lot of units at some points. It's not like they will sell sub 1m units for the whole quarter.
So the shipments were stacked at the end of March. Just like Xbox Series X.

They never announce these ahead of time. Wow.

Series X will be at GameStop tomorrow. Online only

If they are announcing they must have a lot. March will probably end up being the month most of us thought February would be with all these drops.

It's still the DE SKU only, so I would not expect that much.
No regular PS5 drop for March is disappointing, but maybe it's just delayed until early April.
Could be, but I'd imagine that they would've send them before the first, to close the FY strong.

Notes
Tax refund season continues. It's around here that the "bonus" tax refunds give wanes as March traditionally declines from February even with an extra week.

Amazon rankings for the week: #2 Xbox Series X $499 / #7 PS5 Digital Edition $399 / #25 Xbox Series S $299 (Amazon weeks are from Monday to Sunday, so this week was March 28 - April 03) Source

Walmart has had Series X since mid March

Best Buy is selling units in store on a store by store basis. These sales don't get announced, but online drops will still be reported.

Xbox Series S is in stock at GameStop, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and Target

Microsoft has been sending out emails with direct links to buying an Xbox Series X

Target sells Xbox Series X and S in stores as of October 17, 2021. Any day of the week could have Series X and S stock. I point out the website restocks.

Hourly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/videogames/

Monthly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2022-03/videogames/

Weekly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/bestsellers/2022-03-28/videogames/

All you do is add /"YEAR" - "MONTH" - "DAY"/ to the url between bestsellers and videogames. Year is 4 digit and Month/Day are always 2 digits. Days are also always Monday to find the weekly.

Looking at this week, and it's only Monday, Series X is actually #4. Last week it was #10, same as the week before.

Series X out of stock again at Walmart.com

Now to see how long this lasts.

Really wonder if Xbox can keep up this stock level. It's incredible to see how much stock they've been able to put out, I can only imagine how much quicker these drops would be selling out if they had a big upcoming game or showed off their lineup. June will be interesting.

What’s launching in June?
