Wii U outsells PS3 and 360 combined. You love to see it.*

*🥲

While Nintendo continued to struggle, Pokemon had an incredible year. Pokemon Go was a phenomenon and SuMo rode the wave to an enormous launch (although it's legs would only take it to the standard Pokemon sales baseline. SwSh and SV would break the ceiling for the series).

Pretty disappointing year for PS4 sales too. It had another price cut ($349 - > $299) and two new models (PS4 Slim and Pro) and still was down yoy.

Oh my God!! How horrible WiiU sales were this year!! I'm amazed at the amount of bundles and price cuts that Sony and Microsoft made to their consoles in the first 3 years on the market and Nintendo didn't even try to do anything to help the WiiU. I think that since the beginning of 2015, the WiiU should have been selling for 200 dollars. The 3DS was reasonable, but nothing spectacular in 2016, nor was it memorable throughout its lifespan in the USA, unfortunately.
Ps: Total sales for the X360 were estimated at 43.60 and for the PS3 were 27.10 million. This means that both will still appear in the 2017 ranking, right?

43.2M and 26.8M are the final totals for 7th gen.

Year 2 after launch is the typical time when a platform peaks. Outside of that you have either a bomb like Dreamcast and dying industries with handhelds like 3DS or Vita at launch year peaking, or special circumstances extending the peak year beyond 2.

PS1 1998 was the year following FF7 and the $149 price cut, and a $129 cut in September 1998.
Xbox had Halo 2 in 2004 and a $149 price cut.
DS had the DSi launch in 2009.
PSP was basically flat with 2007.
360 and PS3 had Kinect/Move to push for a second wind in the generation.
Switch had the pandemic.

Looking at the current gen, PS5 is peaking in Full Year #3, 2023. XBS either peaked in #2, 2022, or will pull a PSP and peak in 2023, but barely above 2022.

Don't have numbers for the Vita in 2016?
CESA have 60k for the year but they were no leaks.

Comparaison between what report CESA for 2016 and numbers from this thread:

These threads continue to deliver. I'm particularly interested to see 2017 and 2018, as the leaks at the time gave a way to piece together most (but not all) of the 3DS monthly hardware numbers. Interested to see what they are and how close I got to them.

Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3 didn't have leaks in 2017 but the numbers are so low they'd make Vita 2016 look impressive. 2017 on it's just Switch, PS4, XB1, and 3DS.

After 69k in December 2016, we can't expect anything from the WiiU in 2017, unfortunately.
Ps: But I saw that there is only an estimated 20k for the X360 in 2017.😅

Aslo @Aquamarine are you sure the Wii total is 41,919M and not by chance 41,819M.

If it's 41,919M then one year is 0,1M too low:

2013: 813K
2014: 236K
2015: 45K
TOTAL: 41819K
I added up all the Wii numbers that Welfare posted in the threads:
2006: 1,080M
2007: 6,290M
2008: 10,175M
2009: 9,595M
2010: 7,071M
2011: 4,537M
2012: 1,954M
2013: 0,778M
2014: 0,216M
2015: 0,045M
Total: 41,741M
Note: for the 2006 number, I only decreased the YTD with the 2007 LTD.
From 2012 to 2014, there was a greater difference. Well, I'm not here to judge anyone about who has the most accurate numbers, after all I'm new here and at the time of the seventh generation, I didn't even follow the NPD numbers. I just want to have more knowledge and stay on top of the data, besides, I really like your debate here about all these numbers.

I've been on vacation since last week so I won't be posting the 2017 thread this week. Next week should be November 2023, so 2017 will go up two weeks from now.

Have a good rest and enjoy it. I confess that I was already counting the days waiting for the 2017 topic and it will be torture waiting two weeks.😅

Were 3DS numbers leaked in 2018? Building the thread for that now.
Magic pork included 3DS numbers (or more accurately, 3DS as a percentage of the Switch) in their leaks from back then. I don't remember if I saved all of their posts (I believe they were deleted after the fact unfortunately), but I believe they shared enough to determine 3DS for each month except January and June.

Fake edit: I can at least confirm the posts from March, May, July, September, October, and December.

Vgchartz has archived leaked NPD data:

Most 3DS 2018 months can be found here.

CESA have 1,47M for 2018 3DS yearly total.

Also can you add monthly hardware/Software revenus ?
(At least from 2016).

Could be useful to have markets trends.

Ok thanks. I had these numbers already but I couldn't remember how we got them. We always had a way to get the numbers each year.

Now it's like getting blood out of a stone :(
