And of course that was one of the few years where no main series Pokemon game was released. As a matter of fact, besides 1997 (which is the only year in which no Pokemon game was released in any major territory), I think 2015 might be the only year in which no main series game was released in any major territory (until 2020 when we started to get DLC in place of third versions).

3DS indeed had a ugly year, but it was a system that suffered from the mobile market gaining more and more relevance. Launch year (2011) was the peak in NPD.

Expectations that Xbox One could challenge PS4 lead in America after the huge victory in the holidays of 2014 died fast, but it was a good year for the system.

Halo 5 launch was shocking low, I remember when the number leaked, less than 1 million at retail wasn't remotely expected.

The 1st half of the year was fairly strong (by 3DS standards) thanks to the New 3DS XL launch + Majora's Mask 3D + Monster Hunter 4U. The issue was the 2nd half of the year when the notable 1st party releases were *checks notes* Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, Zelda Triforce Heroes, and Yokai Watch.

This is probably the year which convinced Nintendo that they needed to consolidate their software development pipeline under one single platform. It wasn't just the Wii U that suffered but the 3DS too.

The Wii had 3 price cuts in the US and also the Mini. Even so, it couldn't resist as much as the PS3 and X360. Nintendo practically abandoned the device after 2010.

It's a bit shame because it was a good device.
Just not suited to its time.

Now there is a discrepancy in the thread with the Wii data. The LTD of the Wii in 2014 was 41.696M and in 2015 it was 41.919M, but we only had 45k sold in 2015.

Welfare aleready explain but to detail a bit, disparrency happened for 2 reasons:

1) Ronding issues with leaked data.

For exemple let's say 3DS sold 333.250 units in November 2015.

A leaker can reports either:

• 333k
• 335k (rouded to nearst 5k)
• 330k (rouded to nearst 10k)
• "around 350k" (rouded to nearst 50k)
• "less than 350k"
• "more than 300k"

First case (333k) is what will happened most time but sometime leaks are less precise.
Then if a leak report "around 350k" or "less than 350k", Welfare will use 350k on this thread while the real number is 330k.

2) Ajustements made by NPD after original reports.

For exemple the 333.250 of 3DS for november 2015 can become 310.051 after an ajustement that happened few years after.
Problem is that if 333k leaked earlier we will always use that 333k untill 310k leak.

Something to note is that CESA only uses original reported data. Even if a number is later adjusted fairly quickly, they don't include those. PS4 November 2016 was first 1.1M but then quickly revised to 1.2M, but CESA only reports PS4 sold 5,100,000 for 2016, and not the 5.2M it was adjusted to.
