Nintendo Switch: new Nintendo guidelines causing games to be denied release in the West

I saw that as well. Additionally, the aforementioned altered version that was published and unpublished in the west is also the version that was released on Steam.
Will be, it's set to release in mid-May on Steam according to the dev.
Well, good thing that particular "rule" wasn't in place when Awakening was being localised, heh? 😏

But yeah, good to have some pretty clear evidence about what the guidelines are about (why did it even take so long?!).
AwkwardZombie has been vindicated.

So now we know Nintendo's western teams have similar policies to Steam regarding content at least, althougj with some inconsistencies (Death End's been confirmed for a Steam release, for one). I doubt qureate adding a "All characters are 18+" disclaimer on all their game descriptions like they do on Steam would be enough for them here.

Well, that explains why the Kanon release mentioned having to make those cuts to "keep the character designs". Ridiculous, but sadly not surprising-

We’ve received another clear example proving that Nintendo’s standards in Japan are no longer aligned with those in the West. Additionally, according to his statement, the eShop in Asia clearly follows the Japanese standard.

It also confirms that the issue lies more with the character’s perceived age rather than with nudity itself.

Actually, this just makes me more angry at the whole situation. I shared just some days ago that the dev was apparently already adviced on what to edit and they had already put the extra work for that, even making it the only available version outisde of DLSite, just for Nintendo to then tell them: "lol, no, we actually need also to edit the WHOLE CHARACTER DESIGN OF YOUR GAME". Hate how Steam and now Nintendo are basically not giving a fuck about devs and just wait for the last moment to tell them their game won't be avilable. There's zero respect for the work and possible economical stability of these devs when they are not tell in advance about this.

And BTW, following the ridiculous edits on Kanon and now this confirmation about "perceived age", is clear there's a bunch of games we are never getting in the West on console (TokiMemo, ToHeart, etc).

EDIT: sorry, wanted to edit my previous post but ended up making a new one-
