Nintendo FY3/2024 Q2 Earnings Release, Switch Hardware Q2: 2.93M units (-9.85% YoY), 132.46M units LTD.

Honestly that negative doesn’t seem like a huge concern. I doubt the customers you’re describing are the ones who’ll be jumping onto the switch 2 any time soon and it’s likely to be in short supply for ages after release anyway (assuming they don’t totally fuckup).
Not all of them would be, assuredly, but the more you lock in, the less you get in the first few years to maximize software earnings through the entire lifespan of the device. Evergreens exist, this is true, but not every piece of software will be an evergreen, that is also true.
And short supply is not an inevitability you profess it to be, no matter what the PS5's first 2 post-launch years and the Switch's 1st year would lead you to believe. Nor is steady supply to meet demand an automatic sign of a mistake.

Q&A is up.

Miyamoto talks about the impact of the Movies in different markets and notices of the amazing performance the Mario movie had in Mexico, saying that the Install Base™ is not that big compared to other markets, well Mexico is a small market but I definitely think Nintendo is relatively big in here and find it interesting, especially, because Mexico used to be a very important market for them, important enough to have an official Nintendo store in the late 80's early 90's a la Nintendo Store from New York, Nintendo visibility grew a lot here mostly thanks to a marketing and writer guy called Gus Rodriguez, who convinced NCL through the management of the store to also start a monthly magazine a la Nintendo Power, but called Club Nintendo, and even started a TV show centered around Nintendo News.
In the late 90's Nintendo stopped supporting the market directly, Gus Rodriguez stepped down as the editor of the magazine and the TV show was cancelled, but even then Mexico has stayed a very strong market for Nintendo, it's relevance just started diminishing after the Xbox entrance in the market with extremely competitive prices and unprecedented language support, with most Xbox first party games even offering Mexican dubbing with famous anime dubbing actors.

In the other slides released they showed places where the movie had screenings but Nintendo doesn't have an official presence , with India and middle east being the big one missing I think, Nintendo should start investing more in those smaller but still important markets.

Well Nintendo is incredibly strong in Mexico. It's probably the only country in the world where PlayStation is 3rd. The Nintendo of LATAM President said that the Switch has around 40% market share last year in Mexico compared to around 15% in Brazil and that they wanted Brazil to reach the level seen in Mexico. Another interesting tidbit was that last year as the best sales yet in LATAM for the Switch so there's a lot of expansion going on there. I would probably guess the Legend of Zelda Live Action film will do best there after US/Canada.

Was not aware that we had official confirmation of market share in LATAM, great to see, but yeah obviously talking in absolutes even that 40% market share the number may be small compared to something like mainland Europe, there is definitely still many markets where Nintendo can grow especially with a lower priced machine, let's see if they keep the Switch as a cheap entry into the Nintendo ecosystem in some of those underdeveloped regions.

Looking at that 117M annual active user base and the ever increasing software sales let’s me know people haven’t quite moved on from the Switch yet, despite all around hardware decreasing.
