Monster Hunter Wilds sold 8M copies in 3 days; fastest selling Capcom game!

Overview Discussion (228)

(weekly players)
Steam (US): #1 (#2 week before)
Playstation (US): #12 (#16)
Xbox (US): out of top 15
Steam (Canada): #2 (#3)
Steam (Mexico): #2 (#2)

MH not making to the top 10 on console in the USA after 2 weeks is unexpected. Looks more and more likely that the split is heavily in favor of Steam outside of Japan (although it must be a lot closer than what it was for World too).

Didn't see this mentioned before, we have confirmation that PC > all consoles in the US:

According to the latest data from Circana, Monster Hunter Wilds was the best-selling game of the month for PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. When looking at the Steam data, it has accounted for “more than half of the title’s total dollar sales”.

More ''Why care about NSW2 at all? Just continue making games for PS and PC''.

if thats what they see, then god bless. it should be on all systems, missing out nsw2 sku especially for the lost of millions of sales in japan alone..... well lets see how what they do with the decline on the other home consoles. PC is just where its at currently

I think with Capcom it has been pretty clear that the rise of PC gaming in Japan and overseas has made them focus less on Nintendo consoles than previously in their history, that may change in the future but as of yet the rise of PC has come at the expense of Nintendo consoles for Capcom. If Xbox bows out that may open a path for Switch 2 to fill out a place as their third platform of choice though.

I wouldn't put money on Ichinose moving away from handheld. Wilds followed in World's footsteps commercially more or less but Rise had a very different split and trajectory. He understands where his bread's buttered.

Though I'm still not concinved Wilds itself won't be squeezed down to Switch 2 anyway. We'll find out in a few weeks hopefully.

the goal of for-profit companies is growth. arbitrarily leaving systems behind does not promote growth. PC hasn't 100% overtaken consoles (and never will, realistically), so the only way to grow is be on everything possible

At this point, it's like people just want to doom MH not coming to a Nintendo system into existence.
Because the thinking is; If they grow on PC why would they try to make a game specifically for Nintendo consoles? Isn't it more likely that they continue to make high end AAA games that struggle to run on a lot of PCs like MH Wilds?

And given how obsessed Capcom is about getting all digital sales, why would they focus on a Nintendo console that will have high physical sales over Steam and the soon to be all digital PS?

Because Rise on the Switch did 9 million by itself. It isn't exactly rocket science even if you argue PC have a bigger share of the pie. Especially in Japan that still doesn't have a big PC market. And the reason why Wilds struggles on PC has nothing to do with it being high end AAA game when many games runs better than Wilds on PC and looks better. The game is just horrible on PC.

At this point, it's just dooming when every MH game since 3 have come to a Nintendo system outside of World.

You’ve been told to stop with this bunk before. Only warning, think before you post again or you are out.

Rise had a 9 months exclusivity on the Switch, would have done the same numbers if Capcom launched the game day one on PC and other platforms??

I don’t see the excuse to exclude the next MH game on Switch 2, but I don’t see the purpose of Capcom doing temporary exclusives anymore.

Even if we cut the number down to 4 million, that's still 4 million sales which is more than whatever the Series does and we must once again mentioned, PC is not a big market in Japan and the version of MH they love the most is portable MH. In case in point, the mainline MH games didn't outside the portable MH until 4 and 4U, both which were on the 3DS.

And we're not arguing temporary exclusive. We're arguing about the Switch getting any MH at all, which is what people are dooming about. Especially the portable games which the PC market aren't as fond of if you look at how many people still play World vs Rise.

Something crossed in my mind , The Monster hunter Showcase aired today and no additional Milestone announced , Could it be that the game didn't cross 10M until now ? or the polar opposite happened and the game overperformed and they are waiting for a higher milestone ?

it had been exactly 3 weeks since the last milestone announcement and Capcom is the kind of company who won't go silent on their milestones

Probably not worth stressing over since Capcom will share what what it sold by March 31st in May.

The little info we have from retail charts in markets like Japan is that the retail legs at least of MH Wilds wasn't that great. But impossible as of yet to know how good the legs are on the digital platforms.

More ''Why care about NSW2 at all? Just continue making games for PS and PC''.

At 8 million+ copies of Rise sold(likely very near if not over 10 million copies sold now) on Switch and counting, plus ~3 million copies of Generations Ultimate and at least half of sunbreaks 9.4 million, NSW2 is way too bountiful a fruit to ignore for MH.

Heck even Gen Ult and Rise+Sunbreak are sitting at #5 and #26 on the NA eshop right now. They still sell.

I strongly doubt they will do a timed exclusive though. At least PC will be at launch. If it is timed...the asking price is going to be quite a lot higher with how vast the PC fanbase has become.

It's a prerecorded video covering upcoming content that was datamined from even the beta tests, so it's not worth using that as a basis for anything sales-wise since we don't know when it was produced.

I'd not read to too much into a pre-planned event on the tails of a release like this. We'll have a better idea when we get the next numbers or if we don't get numbers for a long time but Capcom updates its numbers reliably on fiscal reports.

It took longer that i expected to sell an aditional 2M copies, but still big nonetheless

really?
I was going to comment: great legs! :D
btw we can agree that this has been a massive launch for Capcom and the MH brand
PC is going to be THE real focus, from now on, in terms for example of performance optimization IMHO
