This seems like a fairly whatever Anni given it's a 2.0 launch + Anni. Seems to be the standard for all of these big games, annis are kind of whatever. Heck, nothing in this even really seems all that celebratory and almost entirely about the 2.0/story update.

Also ZZZ continues to feel like the original vision of this game turned to dust and MHY has stepped into to make this as Genshin-fied as possible. Though in this case it's more HSR-fied, a lot of the world changes would fit into how HSR is structured.
It was that original vision (aka tv mode) that pushed away players, so they decided to expand everything else
That said, actually buffing stuff is novel for MHY though did we really have this much powercreep in just a year to need the first limited to be buffed?
Ellen, Zhu Yuan and maybe Jane are the only ones I would say really need buffs . every other DPS is around the same level, with only Miyabi being vastly better. and since she's Ice, there's no reason to use Ellen instead of her
Though they're probably also doing it because Ellen is still a really popular character

Jane is the interesting one. There is nearly no physical weak boss and there is no support that is focused on physical damage.

Thinking on gear I want them to buff 4 stars as well but :( (especially Corin, like it has the gameplay with gears that it already should have, very big changes)

I think they will change the ones that has old logic in design,
Very limiting core passive in terms of team members and easily broken combos like Ellen's one I think

Pretty good stuff all in all. They're definitely getting leeway from making the anniversary hit the major version update patch (the free outfits being in the anniversary section is low-key hilarious), but I guess that's good planning and as far as I can tell reactions have been very very positive.
They do lose a natural marketing beat by combining them I guess, but there's also nothing stopping them from creating another 1.4 out of thin air (season finale and/or "here's a new Void Hunter"). Just curious if they can get a repeat of Miyabi's popularity though.
The Ellen buff isn't really an anniversary reward, but I do think it's smart putting it in there to reassure the playerbase.
I don't think the game has a real powercreep problem yet, but Ellen has aged uniquely terribly and definitely needs it (Launch character clunkiness with weird lack of iframes/parry-frames on key abilities, the harshest teambuilding restrictions leading to little post-launch "support" in terms of new team-mates as everyone else gets lifted up multiple times and sharing the same element as the strongest and most popular character in the game with Miyabi) and there's certainly a part of the playerbase that has Star Rail PTSD.
But other than her, most limited characters are still largely fine (but would certainly appreciate some small touch-ups here and there). And Miyabi is still the damage ceiling. Will be interesting to see how good Yixuan is - she's definitely animation and gameplay complexity powercreep already though 😅

Corina Boettger (Paimon's VA) announced she will no longer voice Paimon's until Genshin goes union ( though she might have been fired for her recent behaviour)

Means absolutely nothing to me, I play in Japanese. But her mouth clearly put her on thin ice if anyone at Mihoyo was paying even the slightest attention.

The only question is if she does get recast, will that new VA redo every line of her dialogue in the game, which is typically how they operate when these things happen. If so, that would be a MONUMENTAL task.

Since lines are recorded months in advance, it might take until 6.0 until we hear the new voice, so they'll probably use these few months for that. Unless she stopped recording some time ago in which case old lines will remain and they will gradually replace them as time goes on

Sensor tower May 2025 mobile results is out. Nothing amazing (except Hyacine results). June result will be more interesting with Skirk in Genshin, ZZZ 2.0 and Catherthya in Wuwa

Shift up announced Project spirit, scheduled for 2027. It's described as a "subculture" cross platform game

The promotional image looks to have used AI given some of the background oddities and the hand on the sword. Wouldn’t be surprising given the CEO is really big on AI and has used it for their own art.

Sensor Tower's Golden Week analysis.

The revenue increased by 17% to $410 million.

The top downloaded game was Delta Force with over 300k downloads. It released on April 22, shortly before the start of the holidays. It was followed by Disney Solitaire and SD Gundam G-Generation Eternal. Both also launched in April.
Pokemon TCG was the top earning game with over $15 million followed by SD Gundam which seems to be just short of $15 million. Pro Baseball Spirits, Last War: Survival and Battle Cats fill out the rest of the top 5

For DAU, Battle Cats topped it, followed by Disney Tsum Tsum and Monster Strike. Battle Cats' revitalization was tied to the 12 and 1/2 anniversary events which halved costs for progress. Niantic's Pokemon Go and Monster Hunter Now finish the top 5.

For reference, here was last year's article

Not sure if good or whatever. Seems decent enough but this is the big patch right? + Anni?
It's the 2.0 + Anni combo, yes
Looks good so far, but Miyabi had higher rankings even without the top-up reset. Should end up higher than her in June's sensor tower anyway due to having 2 banners vs 1

a job listing for Mihoyo's next flagship game has appeared. From what it says, they might be doing a non-gacha single player

Title: UE5 Urban Open World

Tags: Modern Urban, Open World, Stylized Rendering, Multi-Storyline, PBR, UE5, RPG, True Romance Simulation, Highly Freeform Human-Centered Sandbox, AAA Cinematic, Next-Gen Console Platform.

Goal: A brand-new urban world delivering a cinematic immersive experience.
miHoYo's next flagship title.

Additional info: Originally known as Project SH, development began in 2020. The project was rebooted at the end of 2022, meaning it has already been in production for two and a half years. The reason they chose to reboot the project in 2022 was that it failed to meet expectations. If their next-generation title couldn't surpass competitors by an entire generation, they wouldn't release it. But if they manage to widen the gap, it would mean securing victory for the next five years.

Recruitment Information:

  • An immersive UI that never disrupts gameplay or narrative flow—realistic yet light, stylized yet not anime‑like.
  • The final barrier between quantity and quality: pursuing the ultimate state of player “flow” and a film‑level sense of immersion.
  • Emphasis on realistic model texture and detail—become a full‑pipeline artist for intimate‑scale scenes.
  • High‑quality, cinematic artistic expression—be a subtle & elegant master of visual control.
  • Take part in every phase of a next‑generation Unreal Engine open‑world project, from design to launch, using leading‑edge testing tech to guarantee overall quality.
  • Uncover the design aesthetics that unite art and machinery, holding a philosophy where function and form coexist—especially in vehicle design.
  • Forge a character’s impression through hit‑reaction feedback, freeze their personality along the skill‑cooldown timeline, and carve out heroic highlights amid the 0‑1 binary torrent of every battle.
  • Silky‑smooth motion cues and interaction feedback; art × tech, balancing creativity with performance.
  • Under stylized forms, strive for natural realism; within real‑world references, refine stylized charm.
  • Become a “hexagonal warrior” who combines hyper‑realistic sculpting fundamentals, tasteful stylized aesthetics, and deep anime‑character insight.
  • Skilled in rigging, understanding organic structure, and passionate about human anatomy.
  • Dive deep into tech, reach new 3C heights, master UE and MotionBuilder, and explain a solution in three sentences.
  • Reinvent game‑production pipelines with algorithms plus creativity.
  • Possess keen, sensitive eyes and rigorous, rational thinking—be the lighting sorcerer who challenges stylized AAA.
  • An engaging soul wrapped in a premium AAA shell: starting from concept art, breathe ecological life into monsters like a creator.
  • Deliver stylized character looks never before seen in realistic titles—find the single thorny path among a hundred that satisfies every requirement.
  • Craft a 3‑A‑quality narrative game whose “soul” is psychology, “bones” are America TV‑series genres, and “skin” is urban legend; master gameplay, interaction, levels, environments, lighting, audio, and more for multidimensional storytelling.
  • Let functionality and creativity coexist: within a rigorous tech framework, grant “breathing” freedom to level design. Use space × story to evoke emotion, weave plot × mechanics to shape flow, and merge gameplay × visuals to yield immersive experiences.
  • Pursue physically correct visuals, draw inspiration from reality, and realize art effects through technical insight.
  • Materialize abstract ideas with physically correct logic and presentation—no light pollution (VFX).
  • Explore UE5 and frontier tech to build a vibrant urban open world, delivering an immersive solo experience plus seamless online interaction.
  • Build the backend services that support massive user concurrency, and dive deep into open‑world networking engineering.
  • Establish a robust tool chain for content creation—be the key bridge between creative ideas and engine implementation, letting designers and artists realize concepts more efficiently.
  • Deeply customize UE5 to power next‑gen city‑scale open worlds, explore cutting‑edge AI + graphics solutions, and squeeze every last drop of hardware performance.
  • Deeply involved in the entire development pipeline, building an efficient and agile game production workflow, driving R&D efficiency through data, and exploring next-gen game industrialization standards together with the team.

It'll be interesting to see how ZZZ and WuWa stack up against each other in revenue this month. I feel like Cartethyia is actually a more hyped character than Yi Xuan, but ZZZ is having its anni this month.

Oh I thought 2.0 and anni were overlapped too. Lots of misinfo out there.
No, 2.0 is the anniversary update. The anniversary date is in July sure, but it falls within this update and 2.0 was marketed as such.

Also curious how Yixuan will be doing. Pushed as the shiny new thing, but she didn't have nearly as much buildup as Miyabi or Archons in Genshin and her story involvement has just begun.
That said in terms of gameplay she is absolutely "next-level" compared to anything in the game yet, imo. Not in terms of powercreep (she's probably equal to Miyabi, some say Miyabi is still better), but in terms of actual gamefeel, skill expression and moveset she's in a league of her own.
