Nintendo investing on new Endless Ocean game was far from expected, but at the same dedicating resources on porting previous 2 games would have questionable results. They had released at all regions and sales potential would be very low.
The pretty good relationship Arika and Nintendo have seems to have worked in Arika's favour to get a new game going in the series.

You’ll need an Internet connection and a Nintendo Switch Online membership* to participate in shared expeditions, but if you are not a current Nintendo Switch Online member, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. After purchasing the game, you will receive a Nintendo eShop code for a free seven-day trial for Nintendo Switch Online.

My expectations were low but holy fuck.

Still shocked we actually got a Switch-exclusive Samba de Amigo and Super Monkey Ball game... but somehow not Sonic.

The latter thankfully feels like a long time wrong finally corrected; we never got a Wii U-exclusive Super Monkey Ball game (let alone at launch) which GC, Wii, and 3DS got, with DS and GBA getting their own mid-life. Somehow they made a VITA-exclusive instead, ironically around the time Wii U launched. I remember folks speculating the Banana Splitz rating was for a Wii U game.

But seriously, WHY not Sonic at this point?

I just watched the Japanese direct, and there seems a lot more going on there. Definitely a lot of games to look forward to in the upcoming sales threads.

June 21st for the Elden Ring DLC. I'm guessing Bamco would do a rerelease of a game+DLC combo SKU, wonder how well it could do in Japan after two and a half years...

because Sonic sells on other platforms.

Because the last time Sega developed Nintendo-exclusive Sonic games, we got a good game in Sonic Colors (though even then apparently it's getting harder to say that in some circles but it's the Sonic game I grew up with so I don't give a fuck), a mediocre game in Sonic Lost World, and a really bad game in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

Why do you have such big desire for exclusive games?

Sonic sell well on other plataforms

Gundam Breaker 4 (ignoring New Gundam Breaker lol) with updated parts up to Witch from Mercury coming out to all platforms except Xbox was something I'd never thought happen.

I think that we aren't mentioning one of the most surprising news from this Direct... The new Sword Art Online game is actually releasing on every platform at the same time, so no more "years later Switch port" for that franchise.

Why would they make a Sonic exclusive game? Specially after the franchise is expanding and finally settling over a stable place.

oh, wow - is that the Switch version of the game?
I'd say it shows pretty good production values: is it coming West?

Yes - it pretty always is in Directs but you can also see Switch button prompts.

It's a FuRyu game so someone will pick it up later.

Lost World and RoL are Sega's fault, not Nintendo's. Nintendo's only mistake wasn't ensuring Sega put their absolute best into their Nintendo-exclusive games that Nintendo surely paid for.

Tradition. Sonic's had them on Nintendo systems since GBA and depending on your definition the GC. That and Switch has always gotten the short end of the stick with each entry this gen due to obvious graphical/performance cutbacks (even Superstars for crying out loud).

The Shadow costume will be the first shadow in the Switch version.

There’s little reason at this point to make Sonic exclusive whether this be full or partial. The better ask of Sega would be to better think about Nintendo hardware in the next release or find better people to port the games.

Sonic's too big to keep exclusive. Every Sonic should be on everything possible, unless he's co-starring with Mario at the Olympics.

Samba and even Monkey Ball are a different tier entirely. Different tiers from each other too really.

From the data we have, a not insignificant amount of people actually do play Sonic games on PlayStation. (Hell I'll be getting Sonic x Shadow Generations on there.) Though the Switch is where the audience is largest.

You're right about it not being Nintendo's fault, but the failures of those two games'll probably scare Sega off from doing exclusivity deals like that again. Well, if the cost of making a game isnt doing so already.

Traditions can change. Look at what's happened with certain third party JP pubs during the Switch era, for example.

well it's multiplat while Monkey Ball isn't. something is doing something right

tradition is also Sonic being multiplat, so you might not want to use that excuse

Seeing Microsoft pay for ports and get skipped again... They're pretty much just wasting money here lol. Wonder how quick Atlus and Square pull out when that money well stops. They need a strategy that actually makes their platform attractive.

This being revived is such great news!!!! NIntendo is reviving many of their older games. Finger crossed Excite series can come back in the future.

I thought we were long since past the era of 'tradition' being a reason for business decisions in the gaming sphere, in the same way that Sony consoles no longer launch with Ridge Racer, Yakuza is everywhere and Atelier has exploded on Switch.

(I type this comment following the announcement of two Microsoft first-party games coming to Switch, which I do not think is a tradition).

Also Denpamen being revived is nice. Even though it being F2p is kinda sad. I want full blown new Denpamen game there. It is such lite DQ 9 game haha

So I know this is not necessarily a Japan exclusive, but...

is Elden Ring: Shadows of the Erdtree like... the biggest current-gen exclusive game we've had so far?

It's not current-gen exclusive, there is a PS4 (and presumably a XBO) SKU.

When the developer is Dimps suddenly a new Bandai Namco PS5/XBS game can run and release on Switch at day one and be Sword Art Online at the same time.

With more and more gundam game now getting day and date on Switch as well. Next GvG should have Switch 2 version day one as well.

Is that actually a "proper" Gundam-game? I'm asking because I wanted to get into Gundam-games for a long time, but it was either Gundam SD with chibi-designs or on PC that weird first-person Gundam that was f2p. Is this an actual 3rd-person action-game where you can build your own Gundams? And it tells a proper Gundam-story or just disjointed battles? Sorry if I'm asking too much ^^

it's the game fans turn out for. it's as proper as it is the popular choice. it's a multiplayer oriented game. don't know if there's a story though

Who's the dev Breaker 4? Is Crafts & Meister still alive???

Yes. Craft and Mesiter is back

I mean what do u mean of proper gundam game haha.

If u are talking like classic Gundam Climax UC style to Gundam 0080 Missing Links style then this is not.

If u are talking the Gundam game with focus on loot and Gundam Build Fighters storyline(Gundam Breaker) where it is not about war but more on kids hobbies with gunpla. Then this is the best for ya.

Is Elden Ring: Shadows of the Erdtree an expansion/DLC? Do you need the first release to play it?

The song/music used in the trailer is really good.

There's a reason for that - It's Yoko Shimomura on soundtrack duties. Not the only Final Fantasy developer involved either, Kazuhige Nojima is writing the scenario and Yusuke Naora is involved with the art.

Yeah Gundam Breaker is in the subset of Gundam settings based on the real world where Gundam is also fictional franchise, but somehow is way more developed and embedded in society with Gunpla (Plastic Models) being used in sports-like battle competitions with super high stakes like Yu-Gi-Oh with card games.

The Gundam Build anime series like the animated versions of this, and the plots tend to focus around newbies rising up the ranks to win the World Championships or something like that, with other shady stuff hijacking that tournament plot at the last minute.

I am going to go Qubeley Domination once more haha.

But considering how much i am investing in getting Calamity FM, Aile Calamity and Sword Calamity.

I may went into Calamity this time lol.

I saw it earlier, it was a little strange remaining at 4k+ since Friday. Maybe the opening will be at 40k+ range.

I am going to go Qubeley Domination once more haha.
