It would be insane if Switch dominates over PS5 heavily this year, Switch seems to have almost no notable releases all year until the Switch 2 releases while PS5 will have FF7 rebirth, Ronin, Dragon's dogma and many more.
Being only February and reading once again that Switch schedule for the rest of the year is known shows some things will never change.

While true, as of now, Switch still has a huge library that is enticing to a lot of people.

It would be weirder at this point if the Switch doesn't continue to dominate Japan at this point.

Princess Peach Showtime will outsell every PS5 release this year

If they have 6mil units at launch I dont see why not
If it's a Q4 releas I can see a 4mil release granted they have enough stock, a July/Aug release has potential to do 6mil in its first year imo. Nsw2 launch conditions are set like no other console in the past
But PS5 will be well above 6M by the time Switch 2 is one year old. Scratch that, it might even be above 7M. I don't think it's realistic to expect enough stock for this to happen.

I didn't forget the bad ones. I don't think the bad ones have done much to tarnish the appeal of the good games. Two different things. The reception of Chocobo GP or Babylons Fall would be more likely to affect new entires in the same series or similar titles. But I don't think that those games sucking affects the perception of games they have a much larger interest in being successful. What evidence is there to suggest that?
A lack of trust in the quality of their smaller games in general may lead to any smaller project having a harder time winning consumers over.

SE's string of poor to mediocre games directly led me to waiting on their games to reach sub $20 before making a purchase whereas I would preorder them without thinking twice in the past.

They have wasted away a lot of goodwill

You can also notice the known quantities tend to do better; ports/remakes/remasters, Team Asano, DQ spinoffs (sorry Dai).

edit: SaGa and Mana keeps paying for themselves too though though those have been all remasters or remakes until this year. Emerald and Visions will be the real test I guess.

That is a function of the brand and the brand is rather weak.
SE lost alot over the years but that itself is a matter of how SE manages things: In short, they don't.
That's expected to sell really well?

Honestly, not sure about Princess Peach Showtime as much as I was not sure about Wonder. The buzz that game was getting is interesting in that it exists, even when it was "Unknown Peach Game". It's going to hit a niche, I just wonder how deep that niche is. A 2m WW in units is asking for alot but I don't get the sense that Princess Peach Showtime will bomb horribly.

I dunno where the majority of the PS5's components come from but I assume that a solid chunk of the most expensive components need to be imported, yeah? Could just be because the Yen got absolutely screwed over the past year and Sony decided to hike prices to make up for it.

PS5 is assembled in China, not in Japan, and that's not the main reason of the raised price, considering it's already the second time since the release that PS5 price has increased while JPY has lost his value in the last 18 months.
What I pointed out is: after 10 years there is still too much people playing on PS4 considering the successor is already 4 years on the market
ok, the first 2 years we even can't count due to shortages, but it's more than one year PS5 is regularly available nationwide and multi games still have 35-40% of their sales from PS4
A used PS4 Pro with box actually is around 27k yen, a used PS5 first model is around 57k yen, such a big difference in price cannot even encourage people to buy a used PS5 and when a multi platform game is released we still see strong PS4 numbers.

Also a lot of people have moved to PC in the last years, this is not only confirmed by Steam but also by taking a walk in Akihabara, shops with PC gaming stuff have been opened a lot recently and even big chains like Softmap have their dedicated space for PC gaming.
And with all these PlayStation titles coming on Steam I don't see how the trend can be reverted.

Are Rise of the Ronin and Dragon's Dogma 2 expected to sell well? I don't see much anticipation for both. Rise of the Ronin, being a new IP, might be more of a sleeper hit but Dragon's Dogma belongs to a known franchise so hype should be there. Even Rebirth doesn't seem it could achieve much higher numbers than XVI.

Unsure about ROTR but DD was decently popular when it first released, even had a Japan-exclusive MMO (Dragon's Dogma Online).

And I'd be shocked if Rebirth doesn't manage to sell at least 500k FW.

... You do realize not a SINGLE PS5 game even sold 500k LTD in Japan via Famitsu IIRC, right? Not even FF16 which is still under 500k LTD last we saw I believe.

I'm aware, though I think Rebirth could potentially reach that record, considering it's a remake of the most beloved entry in the series.

If it doesn't manage to sell at least that much, nothing will save the PS5 software situation IMO.

MH Wilds and DQXII coming to Nintendo hardware, even day one, can't be ruled out yet imo. In which case they'll most likely lose their status as PS5 drivers, even if they still perform well on the console. These are the pitfalls of having a 3rd party driven platform model, especially given how Nintendo friendly these two particular series have historically been and how the big 3P series Sony's historically sewn up (FF) has fallen from grace.

I do think Rebirth can clear 500k packaged in Japan, just probably not first week.

WHat gaming-related earnings calls or reports do we have left for the last quarter, the one ending in December?

Either Capcom brings Monster Hunter Wilds to Switch 2 at the same time or not at all and instead ports a Complete Edition of Monster Hunter World until the console gets its own Monster Hunter.

Capcom won't allow a longer wait than 5 years for a platform manufacturer ecosystem.

May as well just port over a complete edition of MHRise if they won’t port Wilds. The better idea would be to get a port of Wilds onto Redacted asap.

World has longer legs than Rise thanks to the Wilds announcement. and it's the only one not available as a portable game. Rise would just fall flat, IMO
I can see both falling flat relatively so I think the better option is just getting Wilds on the system sooner rather than later.

World Port ? I see people are already starting with lowered expectations.
Capcom better bring Wilds to Switch, aint nobody caring about World in 2025 no more.

They will likely update MH Rise 4k/60, so Switch 2 launch owners will have their MH fix until Wilds is ready.

All these 3rdPartys want to sell their games for +70 nowadays. So i expect them to bring the goods early, even on Switch 2.

@ILikeFeet
MHW has been playable on SteamDeck and Co. as a portable for years. So will Wilds be at launch.
Capcom has no reason to play hard to get, with Wilds being Day 1 on PC there will be a portable version from the start and the longer they wait with a Switch/portable game the worse for the sales potential imo.

I can see a Worlds port to Switch 2 IF Wilds is like really really late 2025 (and they need a bit more extra time for the Switch 2 version), otherwise it makes no sense.

Wilds is more likely to have a portable version because of their recent Apple ports than them giving much consideration to Steam Deck.
Their consideration dont really matter - its a PC game, so its gonna be on portable PCs day one.
Doubt their Apple ports are selling much or would have much impact on what is happening with MH.

they're not, but I still don't think Steam Deck is much of a consideration beyond their usual PC support. especially when you can't separate handheld play out of the larger PC audience.

not that any of that matters, I don't think any old game is getting ported anyway

My point was, that in the past the portable MH was more of an exclusive line, because you actually had to wait to play said generation game/spin-off on a portable. With MH Wilds it wont be the case and people are gonna play it Day 1 on their SteamDeck/PS Portal or whatever they want.

Which is why im hoping that Capcom will have the game on Switch 2 as well from the start. The pent up demand from people waiting on a portable first/only version just wont be the same if Wilds will already have been on other portable devices for 2-3 years before Switch 2 gets anything.

Nintendo is gonna help re-sell all the older RE Engine games on Switch 2 and in return Capcom is gonna deliver at least MH Wilds at launch or at least relatively close to its original launch.

Capcom won't port World because of the engine. That's why it was never ported to PS5 and XBS, they don't have any MT Framework games actually.

I think Switch 2 gets a Rise port for launch and maybe Wilds at multi-launch in 2025.

Why does Capcom need any excuse given they were probably the first developer to know about the Switch 2 and they experienced huge success on Switch 1. The default assumption should be day and date.

This type of excuse will be given by Square Enix and especially Harada but I doubt most other JP developers will do the same.

that's my point of contention, the handheld pc aspect of it. steam deck et al doesn't sell that well, while the PC version, in general will. I don't think we can quickly chalk that up as "people are playing it on handheld thanks to steam deck" when we can't delineate device usage

There's no way Wilds skips the Switch 2, as long as the hardware is capable.
I agree. same with these late port posts. Switch 2 is 2024. Wilds is 2025. Switch 2 Wilds should be day and date with the other platforms.

There's no way game XYZ skips the Switch 1, as long as the hardware is capable.

Agreed with @cw_sasuke, expectation should be for MH: Wilds on Switch 2 day 1. A World-port would be insulting and show that Capcom (and probably other 3rd-parties) will continue their frustrating strategy of late-ports.

I just can't expect another, separate game, given how these only get more expensive to make
Considering they do it with Resident Evil and those are drastically different, it isn't out of the question. Though I have noticed there was quite a few Monster Hunter guys as leads on Granblue Relink so, the team might have faced some brain drain that caused the delays.

If Wilds skip Switch 2 then the next Nintendo-bound Monster Hunter game will release in 2027/2028.
6 full years at minimum between entries.

MH Rise + Sunbreak HD is there exactly to fill the multi-years gap until MH Universe coming specifically to Switch 2

;)

Microsoft's business update is scheduled for five hours after the rumored Direct fwiw. Unclear what this means if anything. I would imagine they would prefer to talk about it before if Nintendo was showing stuff in the Direct from them.

But most likely they aren't

Completely worthless release when Switch 2 is backwards compatible.

It would sell less than the XX port for Switch.
I could see Capcom putting the effort for a Switch2 upgrade patch for 60fps and/or higher resolution textures, but yeah an entire Switch 2 software SKU ain't it.
