02./00. [NSW] Natsu-Mon! 20th Century Summer Vacation <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.07.28} (¥5.980) - 18.267 / NEW <60-80%>

First shipment cleared, eager to see how it does throughout Summer Vacation, even if Shin Chan is out of reach, can it catch up Master Detective Archives: Rain Code in Japan? I might've been a little bullish on the latter selling 100,000 retail copies, although it does have a Season Pass with 4 additional stories, will review the big 10 + 1 end of September post-Direct/TGS.
Complete missed Famitsu's report for July, so here you go:

So Rain Code sold 1,292 copies in week 30.
It sold 2.836 units the previous week, so yeah, that checks out.
Unique opportunity to use two new titles launched as well as ongoing sales of Ark: Survival Evolved to (almost) work out all of the retail games sold by Spike Chunsoft throughout July.
Famitsu Sales: Week 26, 2023 (Jun 19 - Jun 25)
29./30. [NSW] Ark: Survival Evolved <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.02.24} (¥3.800) - 1.214 / 54.325 <80-100%> (+1%)
Ok so we have the above figure for Ark: Survival Evolved in Week 26 plus it snuck back into the Weekly Famitsu Top 30 on Week 28 so we can work out Week 27 to get its first two weeks.
Famitsu Sales: Week 27, 2023 (Jun 26 - Jul 02)
01./00. [NSW] Master Detective Archives: Rain Code <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.06.30} (¥6.345) - 55.339 / NEW <60-80%>

First Shipment Estimate: 22,834 - 30,445
As mentioned by @Pipe Dreamer & @Lite_Agent the monthly total for Master Detective Archives: Rain Code means we have its Week 31 retail sales total. It's time for more bombs maths!
Famitsu sales: July 2023 (Jun. 26 - Jul. 30)
03./00. [NSW] Master Detective Archives: Rain Code <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.06.30} (¥6.345) - 74.008 / NEW <80-100%>
Sold 1,292 copies in Week 30
03. Spike-Chunsoft: 101 000 units sold.
101,000 - 74,008 = 26,992
26,992 - 18,267 = 8,725
[NSW] Ark: Survival Evolved sold 1,313 + 1,157 = 2,470 for Weeks 27 & 28.
8,725 - 2,470 = 6,255
Spike Chunsoft sold 6,255 additional retail copies in July 2023 (Ark: Survival Evolved Weeks 29 - 31 alongside back catalogue retail sales). Below are the cut off points for Weeks 29 - 31.
Famitsu Sales: Week 29, 2023 (Jul 10 - Jul 16)
30./29. [NSW] Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 [Special Price] <PZL> (Sega) {2022.11.17} (¥3.500) - 1.665 / 74.804 <80-100%> (+32%)
Famitsu Sales: Week 30, 2023 (Jul 17 - Jul 23)
30./29. [NSW] eBaseball Power Pros 2022 <SPT> (Konami) {2022.04.21} (¥7.500) - 1.603 / 279.903 <80-100%> (-5%)
Famitsu Sales: Week 31, 2023 (Jul 24 - Jul 30)
30./29. [NSW] Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 [Special Price] <PZL> (Sega) {2022.11.17} (¥3.500) - 1.731 / 78.148 <80-100%> (+7%)
1,665 + 1,603 + 1,731 = 4,999. The most Ark: Survival Evolved could've sold outside the Famitsu Top 30 is 4,996. Weeks 29 - 31 (July 10 - 30) is 1 - 4,996 (sold 2,471 - 7,467 in July).
6,255 - 4,996 = 1,259 minimum Spike Chunsoft back catalogue retail sales if Ark: Survival Evolved sold the full amount. The Witcher 3 Complete Edition came out earlier this year on PS5.
Famitsu Sales: Week 7, 2023 (Feb 06 - Feb 12)
19./00. [PS5] The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition <The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt \ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone \ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine> <RPG> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.02.09} (¥4.980) - 2.901 / NEW <40-60%>
First Shipment Estimates: 4,835 - 7,253
But if I use Weeks 27 & 28 to create a weekly average (2,470/2 = 1,235 x 3 = 3,705) 6,225 - 3,705 = 2,520 for back catalogue retail sales in July 2023. Not precise but it gives us a rough idea. However I cannot stress enough how maths is not my strong point so if I've made any mistakes then please let me know. Is it still possible to use Amazon JPN to track retail sales?
Famitsu sales: July 2023 (Jun. 26 - Jul. 30)
03. [NSW] Master Detective Archives: Rain Code <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.06.30} (¥6.345) - 74.008 / NEW
00. [NSW] Natsu-Mon! 20th Century Summer Vacation <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.07.28} (¥5.980) - 18.267 / NEW
Combined Sales: 92,275 / 101,000
Famitsu Sales: Weeks 27 & 28 (Jun. 26 - Jul. 09)
00. [NSW] Ark: Survival Evolved <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) {2023.02.24} (¥3.800) - 2,470 / 56.795
Combined Sales: 94,475 / 101,000

Cont….will Baldur’s Gate 3 chart? Is D&D big in Japan at all?
No, D&D is not that popular in Japan, but BG3 isn't necessarily dependent on familiarity with D&D to see success.

Sword World was the best-seller for a long time (and, after Lodoss War being created from an original D&D campaign in the 80s, SW became the foundation for that franchise, basically being developed in tandem and the game world growing out from the Lodoss setting... basically a pre-internet Critical Role/Dimension20 scenario that spawned its own game line), while Call of Cthulhu is THE foreign-produced tabletop RPG game in Japan at the moment, regularly selling obscene numbers of copies (CoC's Japanese copies outsell all other language editions of the game combined). That link goes into a fair bit of the history of TTRPGs in Japan and why D&D failed to grow an audience (which mostly comes down to a really rough transition to AD&D, along with Sword World not requiring specialized dice to jump into the game). It also shows that CoC has a quite high female player base in Japan, which is atypical of TTRPGs.

I'm gonna lean towards no. I think there only being 200K Series X sold seals Starfield's fate from ever charting on Famitsu.
The Diablo IV Series X Bundle managed to chart at 5th with 8.5K sold, and that was with it also coming out on PS4/PS5. I think there's a chance if there's a Starfield Series X Bundle.

I think they would have announced it by now. The Diablo bundle was announced in March. We’re two weeks away from EA

Speak of the debil

Spike Chunsoft will release the PS5 version of Baldur's Gate III in Japan later this year (no specific date).Available both physically + digitally, according to Game*Spark: https://gamespark.jp/article/2023/08/17/133056.html…FWIW, the western release is digital-only.

How does the new Switch version of Ark compare to the old version and the other console versions sales wise?

Nearing 60k is kinda good no?

Pretty sure there was no Japanese release until Ver. 2.0.

NIS is releasing a demo of its new puzzle game (out on October 26th), will be playable online for a week too.

Is Adol actually voiced in Ys X? Like full cutscenes and stuff, not just yelling and grunts?
He'll likely have voiced lines on very specific moments (like when executing the special combat moves, on specific cutscenes, etc), but he's still a silent protagonist for most of the game.

Edit: Pre-orders are open for Ys X on the PS Store (PS4 / PS5). Falcom said Switch pre-orders will take a little longer to open up.

Famitsu threw us a curveball and actually released new data today:

Man, guess I'll keep waiting for Adol to actually string a few lines together. Kinda funny both he and Link have this same problem, being in basically the only two Japanese ARPGs still going from the mid 1980s.
