Media Create Sales: Week 22, 2024 (May 27 - Jun 02)

Last edited:
Switch be like remember when I'm suppose to decline every week? May really is just slower afterall. Nsw sales being over 50k is insane (going up every week after their last big releas)

Edit: Sales going on? Everything is up Week over Week excluding TTYD

Is there any major chain doing a Switch software sale? Everything is unusually up WoW.

I'm also now convinced PS5 will end the year close to -50% YoY and will fall behind PS4 launch alligned again at some point in H1 2025.

Back to the Switch Top 10. I wonder if the physical sales will leg out to 200,000 before Paper Mario exits the top 10.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming of Switch top 10 I see.

I'm still curious about Animal Crossing. Again it goes up as did the lite so still wondering if the bundle is restocked. Everything went up anyway sans TTYD. Sale?

I get Switch down from age and no Zelda like last year but it's sales never cease to impress. PS5 hits 700k for the year and Switch cracks 1.25 million.

Noooo, old thread closed EXACTLY after my insider leak!!111 /jk

What a weak. Sans Paper Mario, it's all evergreens, and at unusually hight sales, too. HW also keeps trucking along.

It will be really interesting whether Switch 2 will simply take over and keep dominating or we'll see some decline, at least temporarily, that let's PS5 breathe a bit.

End-of-shool bump for Switch hw&evergreen? not bad
now, on the other hand, it's a long road to the next "milestone": both the 2mil YtD and the 34mil LtD goals are loooon shots

whare are we looking for, in the next few months?

Better 3rd week drop it looks like.

Origami King will be entering Obon very soon which will make the comparison less favorable.

The top grossing title and the biggest growth this week is Monster Strike which grew by 733%. This is related to their Super Beast God Festival at the end of the month introducing a new unit, Nightmare. Several titles grew week-over-week with the next highest being Goddess of Victory: NIKKE at 321% with their Golden Coin Rush event. Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis also grew by 288% to reach 46, with their Monster Hunter collaboration event. The sole new title this week was Wuthering Waves, which landed at 25.

The second half of the article is about the highest grossing game of Q1 for each country. While Coin Master and PUBG Mobile maintain the most countries, they both lose few countries from last quarter. Brawl Stars reenters the list with topping the charts in 8 countries (6 of which are in Europe).

I assume there were sales for switch games?

Is there any major chain doing a Switch software sale? Everything is unusually up WoW.

I'm also now convinced PS5 will end the year close to -50% YoY and will fall behind PS4 launch alligned again at some point in H1 2025.

Odd week. Why is everything up for Switch, lol.

what happened? This is not a switch top 10, it ‘s a evergreen top ten (with the exception of Paper mario)

Perhaps it is Obon/golden week? Others know more than I do

Why did all the Switch evergreens see such a big a bump? Some retsiler sale?

Looking at the GEO, Amazon and Tsutaya charts, the promotion didn't come from there.

However ComG seems to have been responsible for the SMP uptick (edit: partially responsible)

I don't think they're big enough to be responsible for anything, actually.
For sure, even huge sellers there dont cross 2000 units accross their chain.

However, since this is a sale on evergreens and not games in the bomba bins, it might be part of a wider strategy among other smaller retailers?

I will clarify they are not the solely responsible in my previous post.

Why?? its better to every market to have variety

The top 10 is the definition of Variety this week lol

JRPG
Sims game
Racing game
Fighting game
2D platformer
Fitness game
Party game (2 of these)
Building game
Shooter game

Having no PS5 games in the top 10 isnt the issue here amongst the many problems, That said there is literally only 2 system in Japan as XSX isnt really accounted for, so variety in context doesnt mean much here imo

Since it's a slow week, maybe here's a question to discuss:

With digital shares ever growing, how long until physical sales charts will become rather meaningless? When digital rises above 50%, does it still make sense to put much emphasis on Media-Create/Famitsu charts? Surely at some point it wouldn't make sense to extrapolate any meaning from these numbers anymore? Like, imagine digital being 90%, it would be nonsense to look at the 10% that stem from physical sales and make any claims for a systems/game's health.

Just a random thought.

Eventually, it will happen, I imagine.

I also imagine we'll eventually start getting retail+digital charts.
