Well the anime is adapting the most iconic/popular arc in the series so I feel like it would get that boost no matter what in this context. I think the only real way for the animation industry in Japan to reform itself is animators going on strike.

Amazing to see Kimetsu's box set on the ranking two years after it came out. This is the second month it charted this year with ~5k sales I believe.

I wanted to see The Summer Hikaru Died in the weekly Top 10, but it appears it had some weird pre-release and charted last week so its sales were split.

There's a new season next year but at the same time, Hashira Training isn't exactly an action packed arc. I'd expect potential Infinity Castle movie(s) to be the last possible juice it can get as far as maintaining backlog sales go here

You mean breaking down boxset and adding it to series or counting it as one unit only? If the former, it's going to be KnY with some very slight chance for one piece if those boxsets did really well during LA months I suppose (just throwing it out there in case it happens but I doubt it). Nothing else can realistically come close really, we know the KnY boxset keeps selling off the few months it charts and that's a ton of units to add up to the backlog (likely a million or so will be boxset alone, and it's not like the individual volumes don't sell, as KnY1 individually is still the best selling volume of the year). MHA boxsets seem DoA, CSM's is nowhere near and has half the volumes anyway.

If the latter, KnY probably remains frontrunner, I could see CSM or especially JJK happening in this scenario though. I'll look into it more when I have some time though it's kind of hard to really tell tbh.

I expect #1 will probably change hands next year, sounds like they're going for some heavy milking and a rather unexciting season for KnY by the looks of it, that probably won't be enough to keep winning (though breaking down boxset it still has a pretty big lead on everything, so who knows really, maybe it just wins regardless). Think CSM is gonna drop a lot harsher than Kaiju here, Kaiju will probably hold ok ish. Kaiju was 20k below CSM last volume but it will be 30k or so up this time around. Compared to its usual anyway, probably some anime anticipation helping out. CSM is on a nasty trajectory..

EDIT: Actually forgot CSM had a decently sizable week0, still bad but it won't end up below kaiju by that much.

I kind of figured it was more of a Western phenomenon (primarily US) prior to the anime's release. It didn't track up to Jujutsu Kaisen though people were definitely interested. Still hitting 5 million is nothing to sneeze at. However, in the US, it was one of the top manga in 2021 and dominated the 2022 list on the NPD. It should end up pretty high this year along with Goodbye, Eri and the other Fujimoto collection. It seems like it will stick around in the long-term like Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan.
As for the quality, I found it pretty good when I read through Part 1 earlier this year. A little more sensical than Jujutsu Kaisen and it was a fairly strong plot for a manga.

It's really good (my third favorite manga) but I'm still coping for a big boost after the rest of part 1 gets an adaptation.
The manga was already a huge success before the anime aired with more than 1m copies sold(/shipped) per volume.
