"The sales of the new title, Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE from Spike Chunsoft contributed to the [Net sales] segment" and "1Q sales and operating profit were in-line with the initial forecast" at least point to Rain Code not being a disappointment for them so far.

I read that as the game performing in line with expectation more or less so far, neither over nor underperforming and still bringing a profit

Napkin math gives net sales somewhere between 1-2B JPY for this quarter (5000*200.000-400.000*) so Rain Code did the heavy lifting for their revenue and they kept an operating profit so seems ok.

*
5000y in gross revenue per copy and 200.000-400.000k units shipped, 200k sounds a bit pessimistic as I would expect >100k for Japan only and the game being out of stock in NA + distributed by Nintendo in Europe (+ Asia) leads me to believe it sold way more than 100k outside Japan.
So 1.5-2.5B JPY could be a more accurate estimate

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Didn't disappoint, but didn't over-perform to the point of them making a specific mention of exceeding expectations. From your calculations, though, it clearly did a great job of balancing the books.

I think games like Rain Code should start launching on PC Day 1 at this point. PC gaming community is quite big and diversified at this point.
