Holiday 2024 Sales and Discounts Tracker

Lots of games have started going on Sale in Europe both physically and Digitally:

I picked up Octopath Traveler 2 for Switch for just 23€ and that's the same price they have on the e-shop too.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is 19.90 on almost all storefronts and physical aswell.

Discounts have started in Switzereland's biggest electronics online retailer (Digitec). It's not officialy the Black Friday one yet so more discounts will appear next week but it does sort of gives us an indication of what's to come in general for consoles and games discounts.

Each product has a limited quantity available, so we can follow how fast some items are selling.

Walmart:
- PS5 Disc Slim + Madden NFL 25 $450

After almost 24 hours of been price matched it on Amazon US:
- PS5 disc slim 20k+ (previously 10k+)
- PS5 Digital Slim 9k+ (prev. 5k+)
- PS5 Digital + NBA 2K25 9k+ (prev. 2k+)

- Nintendo Switch + MK8 3k+ (prev. 2k+)

Amazon UK:
- PS5 Disc Slim 5k+ (prev. 2k+)

There’s a high chance that November 2024 will be Up YoY WW (except in Japan) for the PS5.

Astro Bot seems to be one of the games that benefits the most from new PS5 purchases:
UK +6k
DE +4k (sold out)
US +10k (also sold out?)
FR +3k

The PS5 slim on Amazon Germany did go from +1k to + 4k in a single day and several bundles are also rising fast.

How can you guys see those numbers?

On Amazon and Walmart you can see how many units got sold. If Amazon doesn't show, try a private tab
Sometimes, it can help to set a US zip code. If you enter a product page, but it cannot be delivered to your location, it will not show the numbers. Alternatively the search function (without entering the product page) will show you the numbers even when there is no supply so that also helps

Update Amazon Germany:
PS5 slim +5k
PS5 slim (2nd Dualsense) +3k
PS5 slim dig. (2nd Dualsense) +1k
PS5 slim dig. (Fortnite) +900
PS5 slim (Fortnite) +300

What I read online suggests that some PS4 owners that predominantly play F2P games plan to upgrade / have upgraded with the Fortnite bundles.

PS5 seems to be roughly on par with last year on Amazon same point in time, 50-60K, though the Fortnite bundle isn't blowing up on Amazon atm.
Looks like XBS is massively down, don't even see a single 10K+ SKU.

Black friday deals outside of hardware/bundles seems pretty dire this year especially digitally. My PSN wishlist has about 30 games on it and only 3 are on sale.

Eshop wishlist has a bit more but I'm noticing that they're not as discounted as some of the prices I've seen in sales earlier in the year.

Sonic + Shadow is now 30 at Target and probably also Amazon as they typically match sales.
Some Switch games are discounted on Woot like the older Pokemon's

It's all about hardware for Playstation this holiday season.

I'm surpised that Nintendo isn't super aggressive with discounts this holiday, the last holiday for the Switch.

$275 and $225 for the Switch MK8 bundles, it's a very good discount, Nintendo is going to have a great November

I think playstation will do huge numbers this holiday season

BF in Europe was 120€ last year vs 75€ this year and £100 vs £65 this year in UK, last year Sony needed to clear out stock of old models before the release of the slim. Moreover this year the promotion goes until December 12th, it's better but it should have gone until 24th like in the US, European consumers are very price sensitive.

The price cut itself doesn’t matter; what matters is the lowest available price, which, in this case, is lower than last year’s.

PS5 will naturally be down YoY in Europe for November. Last year they cleared stock of the old model at a heavy discount. Didn't Sony even announce their biggest November ever?
December 2023 was awful though with PS5 at 550€. Even if it is only until December 12, that month is gonna be up YoY easily.

For those interested in the digital model, but on amazon (UK, France, Germany) you can see it's still the disc version that sells the best.

Yes, though depending on the country this will differ. If I remember right in Germany most of the old models were sold out long before the release of the slim.
The sales last year started in the October tracking period?

What? A lots of the AAA releases this year are on sale unlike last year: Astro bot, HD2, SH2, FF7 Rebirth, Metaphor, Stellar Blade, Warhammer, FC25, NBA2K25, and I believe BG3 is on sale for the first time.

They also had Spider-Man 2, not the smallest game to boost hardware sales I'd say.

PS5 Disk was €429 vs €475 now. Not much of a discount.

That didn't even matter that much regarding the 'biggest November ever'. In the US PS5 did ~1m, which isn’t monstrous. The record performance came from EU, where there were no SM2-bundles and the IP also isn't as strong as in US/UK. 429€ was simply a huge discount a year ago.
In December the standalone 550€ PS5 tanked understadably.

Hard to say yet, the deals were only on the phat disc version and the stock at most european countries and Australia was depleted after a couple of days and even before the actual Black Friday day, countries like France or UK had to launch the Slim earlier than the planned date.

And there weren't any deals on the Digital version, Germany and the UK are doing some pretty aggressive deals for both versions.

The common factor this time is that there seems to be more stock, and the promotions will run longer than last year.

I mean, that would be great. But if PS5 would be up in November in Europe, and then certainly in December with the ongoing discount (vs. no discount last year), and then combined with the $75 discount until December 24 in the US (which seems to move a lot of units)...that just seems like too much lol.
I'm sure at some point we'll see stock issues.
Otherwise we would be looking at a ~10m holiday for PS5 (8.5m Slim, slightly up YoY + 1.5m Pro), and I don't want to be that bullish.

Depends on how much Sony has allocated.

But anecdotal in some stores here I've seen hundreds of Ps5s to around 8 Xboxes.

In Switzerland, Digitec started their Black Friday sales at midnight today. They slashed 20 CHF off the price on Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. In six hours, all 285 discounted copies were bought.

The sun hasn't risen yet.

I guess there are people who actively monitor prices across several markets on Black Friday and automate purchases of items to then resell them with a markup where discounts aren't applied.

That's my somewhat pessimistic take on that situation.

yes there are forums just about deals and scalpers or just people looking for deals frequent them. It seems surprising someone wouldn't know this! One of the most popular forums on the internet is called slickdeals in USA and it's just people posting deals. 285 copies wouldn't require bots or anything to sell in 6 hrs. also many people keep different hours, for me being up at 12 or 2am, is no big deal.

Wallmart TOTK deals are insane ($30~$35). How they are selling digital cheaper than Nintendo? Is there some kind of partnership?

i think youre just buying a code, which the retailer provides independent of the storefront. at least thats how target games with digital discounts that i've bought work.

you pay wal mart $30, they send you a code, you put the code into eshop to download zelda. i suppose in theory wal mart may eat a loss? idk.

Word on the street is that PS5 is currently performing extremely well in the US, with the Switch selling very well too thanks to the discounted bundles.

Xbox is a distant third.
Weird that Microsoft isn't even willing to beef up their Xbox sales in the US this holiday.

Looks like XBS is massively down, don't even see a single 10K+ SKU.

well, MS have chosen not to be competitive on pricing. $375 PS5 DE vs 450 XSX DE? Xbox has trouble selling even at price parity to PS5, let alone well above. ideally they need to be positioned below.

I'm pretty shocked at MS lackadaisical attitude this holiday. Last time they rescued it with a December $350 XSX fire sale and moved 1m in Dec at least. This time it feels like they may really do nothing. Crazy.

Well checking in just now, the disc XSX at Amazon is at 429, but 1-2 months ship time so basically OOS. The DE is out of stock period. MS just doesnt care at least about Amazon this gen. Or theyre just that incompetent idk.

The only Xbox SKU in stock as I type this is the 1TB Series S. At it's unappealing $348 MSRP no less (you can buy PS5 DE for just $25 more). i get the stock situation at amazon especially for xbox is very fluid, but Yikes.

Couple this with Welfare's WM/Amazon real time updates looking abysmal for the XBS. Granted there may be a few other factors there, such as the high number of ps sku's at WM skewing ps numbers up.

Again the question in my mind is incompetence or planned deemphasis of XBS.

Googling shows the white XSX DE is 399 at major retailers, Target/Best Buy/WM rn. A bit better, but still $25 more than the corresponding PS5.

Series S 1TB doesn't appear to be receiving any promotions. It is 349 everywhere. Just as I projected, the XSX simply cost reduces much faster, to where the price difference between the two becomes nominal. Making the S an ever worse idea as time goes by.

It would also seem like MS did not have much of the 512 S or disc X in the channel. They seem widely OOS already. As such the idea to firesale those old SKU's this holiday wont gain them any traction. But they had to know that. Seems they dont want to firesale the new SKU's.

I thought the NSW discount wouldn't be as well supplied but interesting to see it sell out nevertheless. Shame we don't have context to know how good it actually is
Sold out online. The OLED is still available in store.

Best Buy's "door buster" for the Series X 2TB is a $75 gift card. Price is still $599.
