Holiday 2024 Sales and Discounts Tracker

It seems that Sony is going to be a bit more aggressive this year with holiday discounts.
Makes sense considering their margins look better. At this point i'm expecting the first official and permanent price cut near GTA 6 release. It would make sense to get more people on board.

With GTA VI's release and a strategic price cut, plus an entire extra year on the market, the PS5 is poised to outsell Ps4 imo.

Sony seems to have made a misstep.
If anything, the promotional period should have been reversed: ending on the 24th in Europe and the 12th in the US.
While the PS5 is performing exceptionally well in the US, it's in Europe where a price reduction is truly needed.

It'll probably be extended until the 24th.

Xbox officially has the worst Black Friday sales ever.

Series X is $449 until November 23 (Black Friday is the 29th)

Series S is $249 from November 21 to December 2.

There isn't even a new Game Pass bundle for the S. It's just the standard consoles.

Are they forbidden to make CoD bundles?

The new Xbox marketing campaign (showing that it's more of an ecosystem than a console) + these modest discounts for Black Friday...

When GTA VI comes out, I think PlayStation's mindshare will be so dominant that I'm also starting to think the PS5 might have total sales a little higher than the PS1/Wii than I previously imagined.

I agree. The 'Everything is an Xbox' PR campaign and Phil's 'no red lines' interviews weren't scheduled this week by chance. It's Microsofts way of telling people that console subsidies (and exclusives) are gone for good.

Phil mailing it in.

Last year though they got desperate in Dec and dropped series x to 349 and sold 1m in Dec. I fully expect something similar.

Though I'm not nuancing retailer vs manufacturer discounts.

Yep they official don't care about selling hardware at the expense of profit margin anymore. Last year had extreme price drops and didn't make a dent in terms of grabbing market share.

Feels like they really don't want to sell the consoles anymore, but can't completely pull out, so they're doing the bare minimum. The losses on each console is probably still crazy and they can't justify going lower.

There are 7 billion smartphone users worldwide, Xbox already hit saturation.

Last years Nov and Dec

Nov 2023

ps5 between 1000k and 1060k
XBS <584k
nsw <583k

Dec 2023

PS5: 1,530,000
NSW: 1,250,000
XBS: 1,130,000

No console past 10k on Amazon yet so, big numbers have not really even started yet.

Edit: Check that, Meta Quest 3S 20k+.

Are the new xbox SKU's even going to be on Amazon? I havent seen any in the top 100. Xbox has been such a crapshow on Amazon the entire gen. Currently no Xbox console in Amazon top 100 (while Xbox accessories, cards etc still do well)

Bad november incoming 😬

But to be honest holidays deals have been nothing but disapointements this gen.

Just looking at what were the deal 4 years after PS4/XB1 launch:

November 2017 - 4 Weeks
[XB1] [Week 2] $499 Xbox One X Model
[XB1] [Week 3] Temporary Price Cut: $279 S Model 500GB > $249 + free game (November 12 - November 18)

[PS4] [Week 1] $299 Slim Edition Camo Edition Call of Duty: WWII 1TB Bundle
[PS4] [Week 3] $449 Pro Model Limited Edition Star Wars Battlefront II 1TB Bundle
[PS4] [Week 3] $299 Slim Edition Star Wars Battlefront II 1TB Bundle

[3DS] [Week 1] $159 New 2DS XL Model Poke Ball Edition

Black Friday - November Week 4
[XB1] $299 S Model 1TB Bundles
[XB1] $229 S Model 500GB Bundles
[XB1] $189 S Model 500GB

[PS4] $199 Slim Model

By nowdays standard this looks crazy.

That $199 is half the 2013 launch price or 33% down vs what was the current price.

For PS5 disc model the equivalant would be $250 (half launch price) or 330$ (33% down vs current price).

Also the amont of bundles was something when this year we have litterrally nothing for PS/XB.

Microsoft got COD marketing for the first time in a decade and can't even do a basic bundle for black friday...

Tbf, I think the sales strategies just changed over the years.
Last gen it was all about Black Friday (deep discounts but with limited supply), now it's Black Week or even Month. For companies it's better that way. They get a higher average selling price by offering a small discount over weeks, but ultimately sell the same amount as last gen (at least Sony does)

Playstation is more helped by the fact that Nintendo refuses to release new console, because Xbox doesn't sell outside the US while Nintendo do sell WW, but an 8 year old Switch won't exactly be a threat to PS5 anywhere outside Japan, so Sony is probably very happy about Nintendo struggling to get new hardware out while Switch sales are collapsing outside Japan.

If Microsoft isn't cooking better deals for december like last year it's because they definetly drop the towel for Xbox Series.

Sony was willing to release a PS5 bundle for a bad COD like MW3 and then discount it in weeks leading up to Black Friday, but Microsoft won't even release an Xbox bundle for a good COD like BO6 despite now owning the IP.

Amazing, they really don't give a shit about Xbox HW sales anymore.

Nobody cares about a COD bundle on Xbox because they were never going to buy the game anyway. Game Pass.

I think bundles just don't make sense for Xbox anymore due to everything being about game pass. Or maybe they could make game pass bundles? Buy a console and get 6 months free gamepass or something. Bundles make real sense for Nintendo though due to Nintendo having a much more classic console business model compared to Xbox.

In 2018/19 they were Fortnite bundles for PS4, Xbox one and even Switch despite Fortnite being a free game.

Microsoft have really 0 excuse to not have done a bundle with an Xbox Series X, COD BO6 full game and GP 12 months membership.
That's the bar minimum.

They didn't made a bundle for Starfield either. I believe they don't see a point in a bundle with a GP title, their last one was with Diablo IV that wasn't on GP.

This topic is more complex than it appears. The economics simply don’t support selling these consoles at extremely high volumes. This is why Xbox hardware deals during this holiday season will be WAY less aggressive compared to PlayStation’s, which will offer significantly more attractive promotions.

judging by amazon, consoles sales have not gotten going much yet at all. still nothing but meta quest 3 over 10k+. none of these sales are available yet, all the consoles are near msrp at amazon if not everywhere.

xbox had a target deal hit slickdeals series x for 359.99, however it was not a widespread deal as it depended on a target circle targeted 20% off coupon which somewhat strangely afaik, didnt exclude xbox (usually a lot of the good stuff like apple, console hardware is excluded).

Okay it seems like we are actually getting the best Holiday deals for the Switch this year by a good margin.

Will be interesting to see the impact on November sales. Could it be up YoY? I believe so...

Probably will, Switch sales weren't good last november.

Apparently Best buy has matched the deal (75 off) on NSW: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/featured-nintendo-switch-console-bundles

It starts on November 24. NSW on units could match or even surpass last year's November because these deals are better than most expected

I get the feeling that Sony has prioritized the US the whole gen for PS5, probably because Xbox is more of a threat to PS in the US, while they have the whole European market locked down for the PS5.

Solid discounts for PS5 HW & NSW just doing NSW things per usual, Microsoft just seems kind of eh.. which is a bummer. I was hoping to get a XSX this holiday but only $50 off?

Should be a big November/December for PS5, that 2k bundle for $374.99 & the disc version is the cheapest it has ever been in the states at $424.99. Nintendo is discounting HW as well so should be interesting.

Definitely looking to grab some SW as well, saw Sand land for $19.99 & some others.

PSVR2 is $250 off which is not terrible bot not sure about that one.
