Software sales were 15.9 million, up 35% to the equivalent four week period last year. For the quarter, game sales are up 9%, despite the absence of the data of Palworld and other titles not tracked by the GSD.

The highest ranking new title is Dragon's Dogma 2 at No. 3, which overcame the flood of Command & Conquer games. It was the second of the two big Japanese RPG games this year, and in terms of the first two weeks of sales, Dragon's Dogma is just below Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The Command & Conquer series has 5 titles in the top 10, with 11 overall in the top 20. They were led by Command & Conquer Generals, at No. 4. This was the result of the title's Steam launch along an affordable bundle for the series. This pushed several new releases down the chart with WWE 2K24 (No.12), Rise Of The Ronin (No.18) and Princess Peach Showtime (No.23), missing the top 10 chart below.

In terms of hardware, console sales are down 27% to 317,090 across tracked markets. The PS5 saw the biggest drop, down 31% from 2023, but is still the best-selling console across Europe. In early 2023, the console became freely available and saw a respective surge in sales.

Accessory sales dropped only 0.3%, for a total of 1.2 million. The PS5 DualSense controller leads the way significantly followed by the Xbox Series Wireless Controller.

In first 2 weeks Rebirth sold better then DD2 in Japan and Europe.

SE exclusive strategy paying off!

a 27% units sale drop total and 31% for PS5 means NSW and XBS are down 25% combined if platform sales are split equally, however PS5 sells more than the other two combined in Europe so their combined drop was much less than 25%, something like 20%. Since Xbox is recently dropping far worse in Europe than Switch then I guess it is something like -15 to -20% % for NSW and 20% to 25% for XBS.

March 2023
"Console sales were up 67% to 570,000 units sold across selected European countries, again because of PS5."

did they loss track of some markets? or is it a typo? 570k to 317k is down more than 40%.

Ok, I'm confused. Is the PS5 down 31% compared to last March (4 weeks vs. 5 weeks), or is the console down 31% this year if we count last March as four weeks?

It has to be adjusted for 4 weeks, otherwise total hardware is down 44% not 27%.

This is the first time I've thought about the Commander And Conquer series in a long time. Guess Europe thinks about it more than me!

This whole Command & Conquer situation just goes to show that sometimes all you have to do is make the games available... I don't understand how big publishers are still so bad with the simple act of making their games available.

We are in a slack period, pronounced Japanese games do not appeal to Western players and as a result, it is easier for Western niche licenses to be at the top of sales.

In a busy month, we wouldn't have Command & Conquer in the top 10.

It makes me laugh to see some people rejoice in pre-orders or sales rankings to gauge the success of a game.

It must be said that 2023 was an exceptional year in terms of release even with 7M copies, you are dropped in the sales ranking

Japanese games sell a lot, anime is bigger that ever and a Zelda game with anime aesthetics sold 25M.

Stop trying to run with this narrative everytime

In first 2 weeks Rebirth outsold DD2 in Europe by small margin. In USA DD2 will likely do like in UK, beat Rebirth by small margin.

Overall difference in Japan give Rebirth a edge over DD2 in sales. Rebirth may have shipped 3m in 2 weeks.

I'm confused, isn't the comparison about 5 weeks for Rebirth vs 2 weeks for DD2? In other words DD2 probably had the better launch since Rebirth is barely above it?

That being said, yeah, they're pretty close WW

Ronin is selling better then DD2 on Amazon USA, UK now. DD2 legs are quite poor IMO. Ronin may end up selling 5 million with eventual PC release.

I knew after playing it DD2 wouldn’t have good legs. It had a lot of hype from lifelong fans and it benefits from residual Elden Ring hype but this game is no Elden Ring, its going to end up much closer to Ronin LTD than the former.

It still has really bad performance and as much as it has that quirky tiktok factor going for it, it’s still a really unweildy and non-casual friendly game to play. The word of mouth for it hasn’t been good. It’s not something i could easily recommend to people.

Why would Koei report sales figures for Playstation Studios game?

Why would Koei report sales figures for Playstation Studios game?
I’d expect Koei to be the one to talk about it. Both Niohs were published by PS outside of Japan and they talked about it. Nintendo side the musou games were also reported by Koei in full despite Nintendo also reporting their published numbers.

It was the game they mentioned multiple times as expected to sell 5 million, so they would obviously have a desire to talk about it.

SIE just published the game, Rise Of The Ronin is KT IP
Who owns IP is irrelevant. What's important - who owns rights to the game.

Sorry, meant about "intital sales numbers". But even there I was wrong, KT announced 1 million of Nioh before the end of first month.
I stand corrected.
