Overall
  • Software - 11.8 million (up 7% YoY)
  • Hardware - Over 300,000 (down 42% YoY but up 12% from July)
  • Accessories - 1.1 million (down 17% YoY)
Software was slightly up from last year, driven by discounts and the release of Star Wars Outlaws. GTAV sales are up 5.7% from last August. Star Wars Outlaws were underwhelming, less than half of EA's Jedi: Survivor achieved in its first week but, it was better that Star Wars Squadrons. Kingdom Cover Deliverance was driven to No. 4 by a less than £3 sale on Steam with similar promotions for Borderlands 3 around the movie and the announcement of the 4th entry drove it to No. 6. Black Myth Wukong while should be notable in sales, lacks digital data with GSD and only ranks a No. 68 with its physical sales. Concord sales are abysmal ranking at No. 347. It was the 13th best selling new game of the month behind Emio - The Smiling Man, which also lacks digital data.

Hardware sales are a notable drop from last year but, still above last month. PS5 is again the No. 1 in unit sales despite falling by more than 50% from last year. Switch is second with sales down by 25% from last year. Year-to-date, consoles are down by 29%.

My estimates:

2024:
PS5 - 185k
NSW - 90k
XBS - 25k

2023:
PS5 - 370k
NSW - 120k
XBS - 27k

PS5 last year had big supply increase after the shortage situation

yeah, star wars outlaws is a flop. I wonder how much did Ubisoft pay for that IP. Disney royalties are big.

Thats just how Xbox does now in EU. It sold like 0.5M last year in EU, this year is more like 0.4M or below.
Here was the data for 2023 November:

PS5 ~978k
NSW ~267k
XBS ~54k
Is this actual data, or are those your estimates again? I am not aware of data being shared with this precision but maybe I just don't remember

Concord sales are abysmal ranking at No. 347. It was the 13th best selling new game of the month behind Emio - The Smiling Man, which also lacks digital data.

The conclusion here is clearly that if Sony wants to sell Nintendo-like software they need to stop playing with AAA GaaS and start dropping new visual novels.

Thats actual data derived from the % drops and console totals mentioned in Nov 22,23 articles.
But those totals also include PS4 at the very least, right? I do not think you can claim it as a fact as we still have a few unknowns. It is probably close to reality, but it is still an estimate

Today I went to a Store, FNAC, and the gaming section is being conquered by funko Pop, Xbox is almost absent. When I asked for a Xbox game they directed me for a box with 6 games and said that in Europe there is no need to have Xbox games.
It's certain that Xbox users are almost digital, that would be my first physical game (just because it's a gift to my daughter) but MS needs to fight this trend of not having presence in stores. There is almost impossible that a normal consumer buys a Xbox if there is none at retailers.

Erm, physical stores are not a trend either. I don't remember last time I bought anything in mediamarkt for example - it is either bol com or Amazon nl for me.

Yes but consoles are almost always bought in physical stores (I bought mine on MS). It's almost impossible for the mass market to buy a console if they don't see it on physical stores, and a lot of the consumers doesn't know the brand.

How often do people buy consoles by going to BestBuy rather than ordering it online?

I wonder if there is a statistics on it.

Let us not forget about a very important August release:

I know it's kicking someone while their down. But Concord reached No.347 in the European charts for August. Its digital and physical sales came in lower than just the physical sales of Emio: The Smiling Man on Nintendo Switch.

Edit: Emio sweep? Emio sweep.

I only can talk by my perception , here in Portugal, the large majority of consoles purchases are made in Store. But the problem it's same, in retailers stores Xbox has the same deficit of exposure.

If you compare all these you see Xbox continues it's seeming recent Europe trend of gaining share by falling less.

2023 27/370=7.3%

2024 25/185=13.5%

i am not sure this is exactly anything to brag about though lol.

And these derived numbers also seem uncertain, of course.

Either way these rapidly declining European PS5 sales show it has little hope of equaling PS4 lifetime if it had any left. It will sell less than PS4 becomes more certain daily.

€50,00 temporary price cut in Europe for PS5 Slim, starting today until october 17th.

PlayStation Direct is still not applying the discount, while other sites mention it's available only until October 10th. However, major retailers seem to have extended it until October 17th.

Additionally, Worten is offering a €50 PSN credit with the Digital PS5, and EA FC 25 with the Standard PS5.
