Looking at the Tweet, I just realized it is called in French "Édition Essentielle", meaning "Essential Edition", which is kind of misleading imo to those not in the know (?), as opposed to the clearer "Legacy Edition".

I read French, nothing in the above (Larousse) says bare bones. You could argue that something that is essential could be bare bones, but I would think that is not the implication for most, the no. 1 explanation for example is
"Qui est indispensable pour que quelque chose existe" = which is absolutely necessary for something to exist.

Either way, it is completely sold out in France (tried to get one copy this week for a birthday gift).

My own copy, ordered before launch on Amazon, has still not shipped. So it is doing as good as it can at retail.

Yeah, strong RE4 launch I would say.

Looking at rankings New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe has likely a best Q1 in France this year than last year.
This game has aleready strong legs in 2022.

It will be interesting to see in the following weeks how the Mario movie will boost the game.

In terms of potential audience for the Mario moovie in France, looking at the yearly box office rankings the first Sonic movie was at 2,2M tickets sold in 2020, Détective Pikachu 1,7M in 2019.

Illumination has some huge hits, Despicable Me 3 was no1 in 2017 with 5,7M tickets sold, Despicable Me 2 was no1 in 2013 with 4,6M.
Their biggest succes was the first Minions moovie (no2 with 6,7M in 2015)

Depending on how high it will be it could be a good help for the Switch ecosystem.
Currently Switch Hardware sales drop YoY is bigger in France than in others European markets.
