[Event thread] Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is 60mn long, TreeHouse on April 3rd/4th

I'm sorry. But I'm not gonna lie. I watched the first Mario Kart World portion of the Treehouse and I'm kinda already sold.

The Grand Prix actually feels like one now as you race towards the next stage and then do a lap around it, it's so cool. But the really cool aspects that stand out to me are the grind railing and wall-jumping. Just being able to do tricks and stuff like it's a skateboarding or Sonic game honestly has me incredibly excited.

Medium tier game for me mainly because again I'll take my time with getting a Switch 2 plus I want a physical copy. But yeah, I'm super looking forward to the Mario Kart Direct.

How are people even dreaming about a PS5 or PS6 portable if $450 is enough to make them balk. Portal is 200 bucks with nothing but streaming tech inside.

Anyway looking back, Zelda's first retail reduction was a month after launch. We'll see how long Mario Kart holds.

Also, don't you think the water sections are a bit reminiscent of Wave Race?

I am truly marveled at the way we are STILL, to this day, doing the same song and dance every time.

"Nintendo has no slate for the holidays! This January direct only has four games!!"

"Nintendo has zero games announced for next year! This September direct only has games up to January!!"

Repeat ad nauseam...

Tbf, most of the complains over price isn't over the Switch 2 hardware or even the accessaries. It's mostly MKW that got the internet sticker shock. That and the upgrade uncharged of some Switch games. Mostly seems to be Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild since no one bitching about dropping another $10 for Prime 4 upgrades and literally no one mentions Pokemon.

It is funny this cycle happens every year, along with people complaining about how bad the Switch game looks until close to release.

Pricing is getting more stomachable in Europe. You can already buy Donkey at 60€ and Mario Kart at 70€ at some French retailers.

Switch is also up to 30€ below MSRP.
France is a unique case, though. It was the same for Switch in 2017.
It won't happen in Italy, for example. Prices across retailers are equal to the suggested MSRP.

We have to wait for Amazon but i don't have high hopes for us.

Also, Switch is still available for preorder from GS/Mediaworld. Stock doesn't seem to be extremely limited for now which is great news.

"I haven't seen it, therefore it can't exist," is one of the most infuriating patterns of logic people use online and it happens in almost every topic.

The fact we don't have any release dates after Donkey Kong is proof we will get a June direct. Like we need dates for Pokemon, Prime 4, and a more in depth look at Hyrule Warriors, that wheelchair basket ball game, and see gameplay footage of Kirby Air Riders.

Amazon.it preorders went up earlier today, they are sold out now however.

Oh, I agree
I mean: nobody expects Dragon Ball to skip Switch 2 because Bandai had only Tamagotchi at the event, right?
I dunno, the way third party Nintendo support reads here, especially bigger budget stuff, I have no idea. Maybe people expect the recurrent stuff. Dragon Ball and Taiko and stuff that has always been on Nintendo platforms or Switch. I'm specifically saying even big AAA games don't all make sense getting announced now.

The presentation had an information overload on everything from system specs, features, games, backwards compatibility, price etc. There are certainly big AAA games coming to Switch 2 that just didn't fit the logistics to be announced now.

Depends on the game honestly not everything is gonna have a Switch 2 Edition so some will be 20, some will be 10, & the rest free. Even those with 20 I don’t think is mandatory if you don’t want the content. And yes the Switch versions that have the upgrades match what you would be paying is to be expected for physical Switch 2 versions.

I mean something has to give here. We had reports Nintendo was trying to shave costs so that it wouldn’t be way more expensive than it is. I think it apples to oranges comparison because the devices just can’t really be compared in great ways w/o twisting into knots about how to do it.

While not officially from Nintendo the prices for JP have gone up & roughly convert to 10/20 depending on the label they give, if they give it.

Given what we see on pricing I don’t think it’s a stretch to imagine where the Canadian pricing will be.
1. We have had several editions on other systems from death stranding, uncharted and Ghost of Tsushima. None of them launched $20 more than the original release. None of the games should be more than $70.
2. It’s not apples to oranges, they are playing in the market that people can just get a PS portal and actually get an increase in gaming time. I would probably go down that root cause don’t think I can afford a switch as well as a PS5 with those kind of prices.
3. We really shouldn't be doing any conversions for prices a day after announcements for a global company. Sony would have them out by now. Announced a feature and being cagey about prices. Really annoying that nothing in Canadian prices asides the console.
4. This is my personal consumer opinion. Business wise I get it. When I hear $80 I see gross margin. Limited $500 console bundle I hear you want to maintain a high net margin. Like I don’t see the console failing. Right now don’t think the proce will have any effect on people

Yeah it looks like a better Mario Kart game than I could have ever imagined.

Only concern I have left is free roam mode and whether there's actually anything to do in it other than go around and take photos. Also I guess they haven't confirmed a VS race mode where you can still just race the courses back to back in a playlist, which would be a glaring omission. I'm presuming that'll still be there.

I presume there's a way to race through all of the courses in classic Mario Kart style since we saw the traditional lap structure here.

I've read in rpeviews that there's collectibles and Easter eggs to find in free roam, but I presume we'll learn more about it in the Direct.

I watched the Direct 20 hours late due to personal stuff, felt it was fairly good but not great:
  • The good: MK World, DK, good specs.
  • The bad: paying for a gamified hardware manual, no pricing announced.
IMO the 2017 Switch presentation had lower lows but also higher highs.

Now I just saw the pricing and... ouch. The HW I can stomach, but retail games are already 100€ where I live, so it's full digital for me.
Seeing that I skipped both the Wii U and the Switch generations, I might focus more on the BC library for now (I hope the Switch voucher program will still be active in the future).

I find it really annoying when people say "Nintendo has no holiday game" in the same year that a Pokemon game releases.
I don’t disagree but usually Nintendo has something else in addition to Pokémon since TPC operates on their own schedule. Hyrule Warriors was announced for the winter, so that might be there.

I like how the first option is Definitely Not and then goes to Maybe Yes and Probably Yes, but Definitely Yes is not an option XD
Definitely yes was at the very bottom, pic got cut off lol . The follow up question to that one which I didn't screenshot was "If you're not sure, when do you think you'll buy" with the options being Pre-order, 1 month, 2 months, 6 months, 1 years, 2 years. (Never wasn't an option).

For anyone wondering the email is titled Playstation Owners Forum Survey.

All that rage about the Switch 2 will look like fine milk when Sony announces the price for their handheld, one of the reasons Nintendo went with this higher price is probably because they already know the next PS6 will be astronomically priced, making the Switch 2 looking downright cheap relatively soon.

  1. HZD went up 20$ digitally & they went back and added 20$ to the complete edition. So yes, they did intend for something like this but backed away after facing pressure. They weren’t original price but did go over the price they were at the time of the hike. And none of these are over 70$, typically, unless you are buying the Switch 2 Edition bundle specifically.
  2. PS Portal is in the same market but they are by no stretch similar products. PSPo is an accessory for another device which is a hidden cost if you don’t already own a PS5. So indeed it is an apples to oranges comparison as we saw with Switch & PS4.
  3. We shouldn’t but we work with the information we have regardless of the holdup or them being cagey.

SanDisk 256GB microSD Express on Amazon.it are on backorder by 2-5 months.
3-6 months on Amazon.fr
Not available on Amazon.de

I think they may end up being the scarcer Switch 2 accessory this year.

Thinking about it more, I don’t think pricing is an important as it used to be. Otherwise, Sony wouldn’t have raised the price of the PS5 in most of the world mid-gen, priced the PS5 Pro so aggressively, and the Series S should be flying off the shelves with its low price and GamePass. Add to that, consumers are already paying close to $100 to play games early.

That and the Switch 2 is going to be mostly for core gamers for at least years because of supply if it’s successful. So the Switch 1 will be the ‘family console’ for the foreseeable future.

If by relatively soon you mean 2028 then, yes, relatively soon.

We might get them in 2027, which is honestly not that far away, as scary as that sounds.

You might get Microsoft's console in 2027, they did not make a "Pro" Xbox, which is telling, and they are in need of a do over. I think PS6 is 2028. With the buffoons in the White House no foreign manufacturer if they can help it is going to want to launch a device in the middle of the shitstorm, at least 2028 you get what you hope is the tail end.

The treehouse showcase was quite good I'd say. I like a lot of what I saw today and I think they have a solid marketing plan around this whole thing all in all, stumbles aside.

By the way, did Nintendo give any baseline requirements for the SD cards or just being Express is good to go? The speeds seem to vary somewhat between brands.

Also, do we have any official info on how much RAM and what kind? The tech section on the NS2 website barely says anything worth of note about the hardware.

Said it elsewhere but I'm fully expecting Star Fox to get a revival on Switch 2. The IP has a history of skipping Nintendo consoles and the mouse controls are perfect for it.

Rebirth its going to be on the Switch 2, Nate even said that
SE even said as much with their multiplatform push. all their big games are coming, regardless of how much work is needed or not

no minimum requirement. no card states it even. I suspect they'll all operate at below maximum anyway (so around 300MB/s to 500MB/s) for power reasons

I’ve been saying for years that SE would put all their games on Switch 1 if the Switch could handle the FF7 games and FF16. FF14 was the only iffy skip imo.

I remember there being a rumor that SE tried to put FF15 on Switch, but couldn’t because the coding was so bad in that game that they couldn’t compress it enough.

Btw, do we think the FE4 remake is still happening? I think it’s a good candidate for a crossgen game, but maybe they’re saving it for 2026. The next mainline FE might still be a few years out.

Yep but cross-gen games were not going to be announced at the Direct since they focused on exclusives as far as new reveal went.

Switch 1 is not getting a 1st party game from Xenoblade in March to potentially Metroid Prime 4 (September?). This is very unlikely imho so expect cross-gen games to be reveal at some point by Nintendo.

I kinda feel like if a Switch 1 game was coming out this year it would have been announced in the March Direct. I also think we won’t get any game announcements until a June Direct - where they’ll probably cover post-launch support for MKW, do a deep dive on Donkey Kong and other games, announce another NSW2 title (are we going with NS2 or NSW2?) for the year, and maybe end on a 3D Mario teaser for 2026. So maybe FE4 remake shows up there, but I dunno if they would release it in such a short window.

Anything can happen of course, I’m just not sure why they’d wait to announce a NSW1 title, especially after NSW2 takes up all the mindshare.

Engage was supposedly done for over a year before it released, so IS had years to do a new entry and FE are not graphically intensive games. Also, it’s odd that a remake of a SNES game is crossgen and not X.

Third party for Switch 2 is surely going to be far better than Switch 1. By the simple fact that western pubs and devs is going to move Seas and Mountain to ensure Switch 2 ver exist.

Japan is going to be more or less the same or just a bit better as this time more late port will hit Switch 2.

I dont think many need to be afraid in regards of third party support there.

Ninty still has many first party card they hide as well. We can see more new title coming the moment we hit that E3 time again.

Yes I agree. I think if there would excist some crossgen games like FE4 Remake, they would definetly have announced them in Switch 1 Direct. I see no reason to NOT announce them there. Games like Kirby Forgotten Land, Mario Party Jamboree, MP4, Legends ZA and so on are all also 'crossgen' games now. And all of them were known entities before S2 direct. So if Switch 1 would still get games like FE4 Remake in the closer future, they would have shown it.

Due to this, I think that FE4 remake will either be S2 exclusive or never excisted at all.

By the way: Intelligent Systems should also have some game ready for spring 2026 at the latest
