The game was released on August 18 on Nintendo Switch, Playstation, Xbox and Steam. The milestone was hit on it's first week.

Digital stores, self publishing/pricing possibilities, middleware tools and social media for promozione have been world-changers for sure

Yup. And also the fact that 3 console makers now is also more aggressive in marketing indie games on their digital stores help push the game into forefront there.

To be fair, CotL has a lot of things going for it that many indies don't have. Devolver has put a lot of money into the game
