COMG! Daily Pre-Order and Weekly Sales Archive

That is one heck of a stall. Maybe the sample size isn’t (remotely) representative of the full picture this time. Maybe there’s a (far) higher digital ratio than last time.

Or maybe the game just isn’t going to open remotely well in Japan!

To be fair, that digital twin package is a really sweet deal.
But yeah, still not the greatest indicator.

This might be the point where you cut the massive advertising promotions...They don't seem to be having much of an effect anymore. Save some money while you still can kind of a thing.

Aye, I’ve been mulling that over. I don’t think it’s a leap to hypothesize that the digital share will be greater with Rebirth than with XVI!

From a pure ROI standpoint, that question is very relevant.

PS audience is skewing more and more toward the core, so any increased mainstream coverage won't move the needle much. The audience is very well aware the game is coming.

I think for this specific case, digital shouldn't be ignored/dismissed due to the twin pack.

Almost poetic (not in a positive way) for VII to have 111.

Meanwhile on Amazon JP, 7R2 standard has increased to 30k+ early (after midnight) Wednesday morning (Japan) when it when reached 20k+ on Friday morning. Amazon edition also increased to 9k+ at the same time after it reached 8k on Monday morning. 40k for the month before release. At least Amazon made things a bit exciting in the final week.

Only a 2 point increase? Pretty bleak picture for Rebirth. It was always going to struggle domestically, but this is much lower than anyone else was expecting. Here's hoping it performs remarkably well globally at least.

113 huh...That's 53 points less than what XVI opened at (166). That's 68% of XVI's preorders and if the percentages work out exactly (likely not, but should be close), then we're looking at FW sales opening at [336,027 x 0.68] 228,498.

In other words, forget 300k FW, Rebirth may not even be able to crack 250k, which would be a massive 2/3 drop from 7 Remake. That's including the fact that Rebirth will have an additional day of sales, so it's possible that the collapse could've been even bigger (3/4 drop).

All that being said, I'm predicting an opening FW for 7RB around 250k, but no higher.

Edit: Now I'm just thinking about part 3...Hoo boy, that last part had better be on more platforms day 1 is all I have to say.

Is Unicorn Overlord going to have a better fw that 13 Sentinels?

13 Sentinels was a slow burner that had an incredibly dissapointing first week, even the 3y late port on NSW had a FW nearly as good as the original PS4 SKU.
So yes by all accounts clearing that incredibly low bar is a minimum and it will do it with ease, especially as a NSW/PS4/PS5 multiplat

04./00. [PS4] 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim # <ADV> (Atlus) {2019.11.28} (¥8.980) - 34.608 / NEW <60-80%>

Now by how much we'll see, certainly above 50k with NSW SKU leading, how much ahead remains to be seen

I really don't think Comg is going to be very representative of first week sales in this case, and feel it's going to end up doing XVI numbers pretty much, which is already pretty bad for the franchise.

Yeah, that'd still end up being less than half of 7RM's opening with an additional day of sales to boot.

XIII-2 had a roughly 60% drop from the first game, so including PS5 digital edition downloads would put 7RB at about the same place, drop-wise.

Well, two (brutally obvious) takeaways from FF7RB's preorder numbers.

1. They'd best hope the game performs better worldwide.
2. I'll be stunned if Square Enix ever greenlights another Final Fantasy remake project of such magnitude.

Its not like original FF games will sell any better.

I'm somewhat skeptical of that. I don't see them performing as well as XV going forward, at least domestically. But XVI's failure to generate much enthusiasm heading into it was not a set-in-stone scenario. A new Final Fantasy that casts a wider appeal net in Japan would do better than XVI did there.

Plus, an original game is a more open-and-shut case. As in, you aren't committing to something beyond that game. With the Remake trilogy, you are - twice.

Guys, its just 50 pre orders less in all Japan.

theres the Twin Package too

If your saying that than comg is completely useless. Its should be more of a gauge than anything. Comg points to retail sales being maxed at 350k, and possibly 250k-300k.

That said rebirth digital should be better but even if its (this is guesstimate work) 25% digital for XVI and 35% digital for Rebirth it might still be less overall and over half of what Remake did.

FW FFXVI: 336k retail (25% digital) = 450k Total
FW Rebirth: 275k retail (35% digital = 425k Total

Could surprise though and still end up close to FFXVI Retail, I do think digital will be higher for Rebirth but not as high as remake had in 2020

And that was the end of the disappointment. 16 was the sign. Over half a year later, 7R2 is the confirmation PS software at COMG is dead. I no longer expect KH4 to do any better at COMG. DQ and MonHun are the only ones that could probably reach 200-300 points, but even that is still a disappointment.

Meanwhile at Amazon JP, Amazon edition reached 10k at around 8 AM on launch day after it reached 9k early Wednesday morning. Meaning the standard version was moving way faster so it did 40k+ before release. Amazon ends things on a good note.

Apologies for not keeping up on the Amazon front, but I noticed you said this is a good note. Would you say it's a healthy one? How does it compare with FFXVI's Amazon preorder performance?

its still showing 9k for me

@Quinton "I noticed you said this is a good note. Would you say it's a healthy one?"

Well, it was an intentional contrast due to how COMG has disappointed while Amazon has made things a bit entertaining. In regards to healthy? I leave that to you to decide. I've documented 7R2's Amazon JP movement in each of my previous posts with timestamps in this thread leading up to release.

Obviously, its the 2nd biggest PS5 release over half a year later after 16, so is it healthy?....

You can check the Amazon comparison here (FF16 launch month numbers) and here (7R2 majority of launch month; cutoff is February 27) or just look at the current numbers on Amazon's. lol

@Damage2 It's been 10k for the past 2 hours on mobile and desktop.

Thanks! This was quite helpful. I'll check those out now.

To be honest, coming from the 1.5m units sold by Remake, enjoying a higher installed base, being FFVII, open world and a more traditional jRPG experience, selling more than FFXVI was to be totally expected…?

I remember this figure even though I can't find the source anymore. We know for sure it sold 1m at launch in Japan however.
Interesting, this makes Rebirth's potential performance even more questionable, considering it improves on Remake in literally every single aspect.

Final Fantasy decline in Japan is mostly because the games are released only on PS5, a platform with very weak software sales in Japan. The problem is that Switch is far too weak to play these games which would help Japanese sales. But a PC release could have made sense at least.

I feel like the Switch 2 hardware is going to be quite interesting. Something like a PS4 Pro can play gorgeous games.

As a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, I would like the next games to be multiplatform, and using the Switch 2 as the base console, as will happen with Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance.

2. I'll be stunned if Square Enix ever greenlights another Final Fantasy remake project of such magnitude.
Well to be honest the next part is coming around 2028 and then would mean basically 12 years of remaking a single game (albeit in multiple parts).

The worst part is that the last part will probably cost more than FF7R P1. I wonder if Rebirth cost more also...

Now that’s an interesting question, because we don’t know the development pipeline. If I remember right, the work on Rebirth started toward the end of Remake and the work on R…….. should already be on the way. They finished Rebirth in less than 4 years after Remake, Japan had no insane salary inflation and the game is reasonably scoped - you notice the areas the devs prioritized and where they cut corners.
I believe the one thing we can say with relatively high confidence is, that the cost did not double or triple.
Though I think SE will aim for autumn 2027, without COVID Rebirth would have been released last year.

They won’t remake other FF games in the same vein. The only other FF approaching FFVII‘s popularity is FFX. They will remake FFX, but this game can be remade in one go, Spira is simply not that expansive.
