1 point. The calm before the storm. Since SoP is at 8:30 AM (Japan), not everyone will be watching it live, but they might have the chance at lunch. Some people might have the day off so they have a chance to play the demo. Potential movement could start today, but the next 2 days it should happen (hopefully). The time has come to see what this week has in store.

Meanwhile on Amazon, 7R2 finally got to #1 yesterday for several hours then went back to #2. Now for the past few hours, it has been back at #1. While that is nice, it is the units that matter now.

Edit: 7R2 Amazon edition has moved from 19 to 14 as of 1:30 PM (Japan).

Edit 2: 7R2 Amazon edition has moved from 14 to 4 as of 7:00 PM. Standard still at 1.

I don't think COMG is very predictive at all, but that is a bit of an alarming number for Ronin after several console game kind of flops from KT in a row.

not properly, one thing is a shop with stores in all the country (Bic Camera, Yodobashi, Book Off), another one is a shop with stores in just a single prefecture and even not so much populated.
I live in Saitama prefecture which has 3x the population of Niigata prefecture, it's like I suppose FuruIchi, a local shop here in Saitama, can be predictive for sales in all Japan.
And nowadays most of the people pre-order limited editions not regular versions, the latter you can find in many places and maybe with a cheaper price, then add the impact that digital has on sales nowadays and you can realize that comgnet is almost useless, I remember 15 years ago during the good old DS+PSP times games with 2-300 pre-orders, some even with a thousand, now when a game hit the 100 milestone is an event.

Also check Yakuza 8 numbers and then go check comgnet pre-orders: PS4 version was higher than PS5 but PS5 sold 30% more than PS4 version (100k vs. 75k).

The overall decline of video game stores over the last 10-15 years is irrelevant to the point. It is what it is.

I remember 15 years ago during the good old DS+PSP times games with 2-300 pre-orders, some even with a thousand, now when a game hit the 100 milestone is an event.

Larger numbers don't necessarily make the pre-order chart more accurate. There is a reason why polls have small sample sizes. I've conducted polls and past some (very early) point the results just don't change anymore. The point where the margin of error is too big is surpassed by medium scale releases all the time. The real variance comes from other factors.

Also check Yakuza 8 numbers and then go check comgnet pre-orders: PS4 version was higher than PS5 but PS5 sold 30% more than PS4 version (100k vs. 75k).

This is a game where the PS4 version has started to outsell the PS5 one after the first week. GEO called that but Tsutaya didn't.

Famitsu sales are the sum of all stores/chains and every one shows different trends all the time. Some stores have better pre-order bonuses or discount a game more.

COMG! sales were/are posted because the stores haven't dedicated themselves to something specific like otaku games and they provide numbers. Charts from similarly sized chains like Lepton (does anyone even remember these?) never took off because they don't have numbers, and if we ever got sales numbers from say AmiAmi they'd be completely useless (not representative), even if they were in the 200-300 range.

COMG! is actually in a very good position to be predictive of the entire market despite being so small.

Meanwhile on Amazon, 7R2 Amazon edition has been at #2 for the past several hours. 7R2 now claims the #1 and #2 spot. Still at 10k+ and 4k+, respectively. All that's left is for the units to increase significantly.

Bonus: I know this is about pre-orders, but I have to mention it. Since the demo released, Intergrade has moved up from the 290's to 270's to 240's to 190's to 95 to 105 and now currently at 85. It was at 800+ and has increased to 900+.

Yep, although XVI is tracking slightly higher. Doesn't bode well for Rebirth. Guess not even FF7 could save the state of PS5 software sales.

Indeed, I was curious about FF7R and seems like is doing similar to FFXVI, I'm really curious to see how it will perform, maybe showing to S-E that people (at least in Japan) prefer the old turn based system instead of the devil may.... ehm, action system (and this is the reason, I think, for low sales in home country)

Not really, the decline started with FFXIII-2 which was turn based.

actually i'm not too much into RPG (I'd say I'm totally out of the scene) but as far as I can see the problem with FF13 was they make 3 different games, FF14 was online and I think it has been a success in sales considering is still supported, FF15 was crap for what I heard and FF16 was heavily criticized for being more action oriented.
The brand itself is declining in Japan and it's still mono platform unlike DQ which is released on both Sony and Nintendo platforms, maybe S-E should consider to bring back FF to Nintendo ecosystem.
But in general it's S-E the problem itself, they basically do the same games they make 20-25 years ago, DQ and spin-offs, FF and milking FF7, Star Ocean, you can't keep your business for long if you keep doing the same things more and more and more, especially when the partner you choose to release your game is also declining compared to 15-20 years ago.

I know it probably won't happen, but I wish S-E would share total sales in Japan (including digital) in the first week of release.

Two Rebirth digital SKUs (Twin Package) include Remake at no additional value, so I imagine Rebirth's digital share will be larger than average for a PS5 game in 2024.

Edit: The two Twin Package SKUs are second and third on the Japanese Store preorders chart.

As I stated in my 3rd to last post before this, "Friday to Sunday will be key". These abysmal results at COMG were expected after that disappointing weekend.

Meanwhile on Amazon JP, 7R2 standard has just increased to 20k+. It took 15 days from 10k to 20k. The Amazon exclusive has been at 6k+ for the past few days now. 30k is what I was expecting on Amazon at launch.

Edit: 7R2 Amazon exclusive is now at 7k as of 6 AM on Saturday morning (Japan) for a total of 27k currently. 7R2 should be able to do 3k more before release.

Though IMO I think it might have an unusual digital>physical ratio, due to the twin pack.
