Launching 9 months later has severe ramifications, no matter how popular the IP.

This was Dragon Ball FighterZ. On paper, it had the same sales potential as the PS4 version. But it launched with sub 30k sales and took an entire year to sell 100k.

Lower visibility due to less marketing, worse pricing because retailers discounted the older release already, etc. lead to overall less engagement around launch. More foot traffic in stores around the holiday
season helps, as well as people picking up a game with their new console purchase. But this is so far from ideal...

Publishers want same-day releases too because the amount of sales lost otherwise is actually massive. WB took a calculated risk here, we'll be looking at a sales curve similar to the above in a best case scenario.

For comparison, this is One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, released in 2020 on the same day on PS4 and Switch:

And Dragon Quest Builders 2 to have another same-day example from 2018 (this only came out 3 months after the Switch version of DBFZ):

When the conditions are the same, expectations can be set according to the true sales potential of a game. Late ports do not fulfill that. Unless it's in the launch period, no late port will match what a same day release could have done.

And Amazon Japan started making a ton of PS5 bundles with old games and upcoming games starting next month to next year (There's a Tekken 8 bundle). The Intergrade PS5 bundle is #2 overall behind Momotaro.

Intergrade increases!

During my last post when the Intergrade PS5 bundle was #2 overall on Amazon JP, the single SKU version at 500+ then it updated to 3k+ when the bundle decreased in the chart. It stayed at 3k+ until I guess a few hours ago because its at 4k+ now and I last checked 12 hours ago. Good day for Intergrade.

Yup, 14 stores in single prefecture. The 1000k per point was a rough estimation that really doesn’t hold up well these days. COMG shoppers have platform, genre, and series biases that skew everything in both directions.

Honestly, it's a frickin' miracle to me that there is any sort of pattern that could be gleaned from COMG numbers. Like, imagine that we have preorder numbers from a chain of 14 stores in Wisconsin, and we were to generalize it to the entirety of the US.

(I chose Wisconsin because it has a similar share of the US population as Niigata does Japan, and also because Niigata is also famous for snow and agriculture.)

Darn. Rebirth couldn't get that 3rd increase in a row.

With that said... at the time of Scoop's post, Intergrade PS5 bundle moved up to #4 overall then about 8 hours later dropped to #7. It was still at 5k+. I checked just now and it's #8 overall and is now at 6k+. Final weekend is upon us.

Rebirth is finally #1. Even though it is individually, I wish it was overall.

As for Intergrade, on Amazon JP, the Intergrade PS5 bundle moved up from #9 and is currently #5. It is now at 7k+. It moved from 6k to 7k in a faster time (give or take 24 hours) than 5k to 6k. I can now say it. 10k is doable. The final weekend is here.

Edit: Amazon increased the price of the Intergrade bundle to 71,462 from 66,980 (it was at a discount since Nov 24), which is an increase of $30 US. Intergrade New Price single SKU is 4,482, which is $30 US. So it's just the full price now (the other bundles are full price as well). Expectations have been lowered. For now, I'll say 9k is doable. It's still at #5 though. Darn you, Amazon.

Edit 2: 2 and half hours since my previous edit, it has fallen to #8.

Edit 3: 4 hours later after Edit 2, it has now fallen to #11 and it is no longer the #1 PS5 related thing in the chart after a week. It was surpassed by Eiyuuden Chronicles. I hate to say it, but its over unless a miracle happens.
