It's an incomplete (less than half) action game based on a story that many people have already experienced several times over the decades. Maybe if there was a demo and it proved to people testing out the game that the gameplay is enjoyable and not a slog it might do better, but they didn't release a demo. It's coming out on a day with several other game that have much more merit in buying in an already crowded fall.

Rebirth showing up earlier than XVI doesn’t shock me. I see rebirth outselling XVI (which I feel most agree on) the question is by what margin & will rebirth reinvigorate things a bit for PS domestically. Personally I see rebirth launching with 500K (physical) maybe 700K (digital included)

Is the thinking here that Detective Pikachu 2 will be over-represented by COMG, or will it have a surprisingly (to me, at least) good debut across the board in Japan?

Also, I feel like we had a similar situation in Japan over the last 12 months -- of a Switch game getting loads of pre-orders (from COMG or elsewhere, I can't remember...) due to the inclusion of a special card. I can't remember how that game fared exactly, though. I remember it being disappointing in the end, but I can't remember if it launched to disappointing numbers or just had no legs.

It was the yugioh rush duel game (came with Pot of greed, DM girl, and something else). It launched very well but legs cratored when people who wanted the cards got them.

Engage wasn’t quite over represented at COMG. The number of orders post preorder period was lower then expected most likely due to the stock issues, but the total for the first week total with preorders wasn’t out of the ordinary. After xenoblade and Bayo vouchers bit retailers hard, they drew back with Engage.

Considering people also got burned trying to compare Xenoblade 3 to Three Houses, I think the correct answer is that Three Houses is a master troll and people should stop trying to make comparisons against it!
