Capcom Co., Ltd. today announced that in its consolidated business results for the nine months ended December 31, 2023, net sales were 106,179 million yen (up 33.3% year-over-year), operating income was 47,704 million yen (up 43.1% year-over-year), ordinary income was 49,460 million yen (up 47.4% year-over-year), and net income attributable to owners of the parent was 34,636 million yen (up 46.7% year-over-year).

At the end of the nine months ended December 31, 2023, Capcom’s core Digital Contents business drove global sales volume growth by launching major titles for its flagship brands and actively promoting digital sales for its catalog titles. This led to sales of 32.6 million units for its home video game software, surpassing the 29.1 million units in sales in the same period of the previous year and significantly contributing to the value of the company’s brands. Further, the company promoted both efficient store operations and opening new store formats in its Arcade Operations business, while in its Amusement Equipments business it released new smart pachislo models in addition to selling existing machines that utilize its popular IP, all of which helped grow earnings. As a result, sales and profit increased year-over-year in Capcom’s consolidated business results for the nine months ended December 31, 2023, putting the company on track to achieve its full-year earnings forecast along with 11 consecutive years of operating profit growth.

The forecast for the consolidated business results for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, remains the same as what was projected at the financial results announcement on May 10, 2023.

In June 2023, the Company released Street Fighter 6 (for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC), the latest title in the series that leads the Company’s esports activities, to global acclaim. As a result, the game achieved sales of 2.98 million units, which contributed to earnings.

In addition, Street Fighter 6 was recognized as the year’s top fighting game, winning the Best Fighting Game Award at the Game Awards 2023, one of the largest game award ceremonies globally that was held in the U.S.A. in December 2023. Further, the Company also won Best VR / AR for Resident Evil Village VR Mode, which is free downloadable content that allows players to experience Resident Evil Village on PlayStation VR2. These awards worked to bring global acclaim to the Company’s intellectual property, giving momentum to the sales of its titles.

Regarding catalog title sales, the Monster Hunter series delivered solid sales, driven by the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds, an all-new addition to the series. Further, Resident Evil 4, launched in March 2023, contributed to sales growth, reaching 6.48 million units cumulatively, supported by ongoing promotional measures including free title updates for PlayStation VR2. Additionally, the Company conducted proactive promotional campaigns to gain wide recognition for its intellectual property and acquire new fans, focusing primarily on series title sales, such as Resident Evil 2. As a result, catalog title sales reached 26.7 million units, exceeding 22 million units in the same period of the previous fiscal year and boosting sales.

In Mobile Contents, Monster Hunter Now (for iOS, Android) was released in September, representing the latest mobile game in the Monster Hunter series. The number of worldwide downloads of the title exceeded 10 million, driving wider recognition of the brand.

The resulting net sales were 81,436 million yen (up 33.0% year-over-year) and operating income was 47,361 million yen (up 36.8% year-over-year).

Capcom had the most profitable consolidated net sales, operating income and net income for a third quarter ever.

Monster Hunter Rise and Sunbreak both sold another 600k in Q4, but Iceborne sold 930k. 1.33M in the first three quarters of the FY and 930k of that on the holiday. That's a huge boost it got there.

This was apparently due to the MH Wilds announcement.

That REmake4 port on the Switch 2 is going to push RE4 to 10m, watch. RE4 is going to have some looooong legs

I just hope they fix the gyro controls, but I'm not holding my breath :(

This was apparently due to the MH Wilds announcement.
Capcom did heavy sales and a "Return to World" PR campaign alongside it. We saw the concurrents boom on Steam.

Anyway, sales this Q:

RE4: 1.08m
Iceborne: 930k
RE8: 690k
MH Rise: 600k
Sunbreak: 600k
SF6: 580k
RE2: 510k
RE3: 430k
MMBNLC: 190k

Isn't Iceborne substantively cheaper than Rise and Sunbreak?

I remember a couple years ago I bought the original game + expansion for like $20. Rise was still in the $50 range.

There is a point in a game's life cycle where it reaches "garbage bin" price points due to age, but they are still really good titles. Think about the days where you could go to GameStop and buy FFXII for like 9.99. Really easy for companies to make sales based off impulse buys.

Capcom has a few incredible years ahead of them, I think Dragon's Dogma will be really big and next year we could see both MH: Wilds and RE9.

I wonder if enough physical, bundle, and double purchases of Vol1 and Vol2 of the BN Collection will be bought to total an actual million units sold.

Also, fair to say that Exoprimal bombed?

We don't talk about Exoprimal.

Honestly, when it comes to Capcom, I don't worry about their known IPs.
But what could make them stumble in the near future from their current height are the new IPs. It already began with Exoprimal and haven't seen anything that would indicate Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess or the indefinitely delayed Pragmata are going to perform.

RE4R's sales are excellent, but the RE2R sales are actually shocking to me—only trailing by a million for the fiscal year despite being four years older? That is a spectacle. That game doesn't know how to stop selling

I vaguely recall Exoprimal having a bigger budget than RE4R on the leaked stuff too

Hell yeah it is! I own it for PC and PS4 haha

Does anyone have the budget numbers from the Capcom hack?

I will continue asking for new Mega Man games until they happen

It's had super good legs. Crazy to think it's coming up on 5 years since its release.

RE4 is probably going to eclipse Village by 2025.

Also, fair to say that Exoprimal bombed?

And every sale of that game is well deserved!

I dont think anyone remember ExoPrimal anymore. Even Capcom haha.

Yeah. Iceborne got sales to even below 20bucks over here in SEA.(Around 15 bucks) Thats why many buyer happen. Rise and SB is still too expensive to jump in.

I dont think anyone remember ExoPrimal anymore. Even Capcom haha.

Rise/SB gets sales too but yeah they're still higher. Over the holidays in the US Iceborne ME was $20 while the Rise+Sunbreak bundle was $30. It's newer though so it makes sense.

That REmake4 port on the Switch 2 is going to push RE4 to 10m, watch. RE4 is going to have some looooong legs

I just hope they fix the gyro controls, but I'm not holding my breath :(
The Switch 2 port I'm really looking to for performance is SF6. 3DS and Switch both launched with SF games and while they overperformed, they were outdated/legacy releases. I think SF6 has much higher potential on Switch 2 (1-2m by itself) and could be a formative audience building release for the platform if handled right.

It really is going to come down to the quality of the port, though I'm not totally sure the game comes out on the Switch 2. Does Sony support the game in any form?

Having SF6 as a launch title in Japan would be a godsend for the series there. I know SF is not big in Japan anymore, but having it being one of the feature titles on a console that is almost sure to be hit would introduce a lot of players to the series.

Great to see Monster Hunter Rise top 14 million and Sunbreak 7 million; both are fantastic and truly deserve their success.
