Call of Duty will start coming to Nintendo platforms [Update: ABK Acquisition Approved]

Last year’s Call of Duty title – Modern Warfare 3 – was released on last-gen consoles as well as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. It was a general assumption that it would surely be the last Call of Duty title on old-gen consoles, but with Call of Duty essentially using the same engine moving forward, it’s hard to see why they would move away.
As for if the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch (as Call of Duty will now come to Nintendo platforms for 10 years as a part of the Activision / Microsoft deal), Insider Gaming understands that this will begin with the Nintendo Switch 2, which is presumably set to launch next year.
Black Ops 6 will still release on PS4/XBO and Call of Duty will return to Nintendo platforms via Switch 2 (not Switch 1).

Makes sense. It is like FIFA and Fortnite at this point.

Still impressive to know that their engine is that scalable.
it's scalable, but the last gen consoles are really showing their age with the CPU and drop frames or tear pretty heavily. if they push the engine further, it would make old gen systems take a bigger hit

They will port mobile version. Don't expect them to port mainline COD without serious compromises. Switch 2 is releasing in 2024 with PS4/one power, from 2025 must of engines will be optimized for next gen and that will make Switch 2 ports quite hard. It will be another Switch situation but with better initial support from 3rd parties.
If rumors are true Switch2 will have more RAM than PS4 (or XBox S) and a more modern architecture. If XBox S gets a CoD Port, the Switch2 can handle it too.

Even the Wii got CoD ports, that sold really well. It was weird that Switch never got a CoD Port but it has probably to do with the little flash memory, since CoD is one of the most unoptimized games regarding assets and needs hundreds of GB on the HD. Or it could be a similar situation to Capcom, where the old engine was just not capable of doing the necessary resolution and assets flips for the Switch between handheld and TV without reloading everything again, but all main engines have been optimized for such things now.

Anyway, the Switch userbase is so enormous, that even dinosaurs like Activision and EA admitted eventually that it was a mistake not to make more Switch ports. Suddenly it was possible to port the full FIFA game to Switch and the full CoD game will land on Switch2 too.

I've been saying for a while now, as long as Warzone maintains a big playerbase on PS4/XBO then COD won't drop last gen. This is the same reason why other F2P GAAS titles like Fortnite, Apex, Destiny, Rocket League, etc won't drop last gen anytime soon either.

I have always envisioned CoD Nintendo comeback to be presented as a Switch 2 reveal during the console presentation

I sincerely think it would be a win-win situation for Nintendo and Activision/MS

Would explicitly show something relevant in one of the few fields of improvement Switch 2 could have over OG Switch (certain kind of third party support) and the global multiplatform approach of the brand, despite its Gamepass addition

I agree. Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and Madden's return to Nintendo consoles should be highlighted during the presentation.
I am actually curious how Nintendo will announce their new device. I personally don't remember how the original Switch was announced. And we don't have big E3 like events anymore.

Nintendo did do a big event/presentation for the Switch's initial reveal, followed by Directs/press releases to reveal subsequent games. I would imagine they will do something similar for Switch 2.

1) Nintendo NX was announced in Mar 2015.
2) Nintendo announced in Apr 2016 that NX would launch in Mar 2017.
3) NX was unveiled as Nintendo Switch in a reveal trailer in Oct 2016.
4) The "big games presentation" for Switch was held in Jan 2017.
5) Switch launched on March 3, 2017.

The Switch 2 reveal trailer, big games presentation, and launch date will probably be timed similarly to that of the Switch 1. It doesn't seem like there will be an official codename revealed for Switch 2 unlike it's predecessor.

With BLOPS 6 possibly launching for the Switch 2 in 2025, could we see release date parity for 2025's CoD?
Gotta find a dev for that first :P

Otherwise, yes. BO6's timing seems to have more to do with the release of the hardware than the game itself
