Guarabyra has published a news story:

Alan Wake 2 has sold over 2 million copies, now profitable.

Sold over 2 million and finally became profitable: https://investors.remedygames.com/r...cationId=de036915-53b0-4bfc-8564-7ce4872914e5

Alan Wake 2 sales exceeded 2 million units and the game started to accrue royalties, updated company strategy and growth objectives announced

Guess it took that many units to make a profit because a lot of them were sold with aggressive discounts/coupons.

glad to hear it finally became profitable
it's like as the champion of light finally won over the herald of darkness

Silent Hill 2 did these numbers in just three months, shocking difference.

Weird that Alan Wake 2 reached that just now, because when Alan Wake 2 released, the game was everywhere and people couldnt stop talking about and how it should win awards. I still think that they should went with Alan Wake 3 instead of Control 2

I will buy it if the rumour about it coming to Switch 2 (or was it just regular Switch) is true.
Haven't followed rumours, but highly doubt this is ever coming to OG Switch. Switch 2 port is far more likely (I'd say almost guaranteed).

Alan Wake was never that big. There's a reason it took this long and a publisher in Epic willing to spend money to get a sequel.

Control 2 has to be a priority, it's the most popular IP they own.

Good for Remedy. Hope FBC does ok at least and the strategy of going into both sub services work in their favour.

Alan Wake 2 is greatly hurt by not being on Steam

As pointed out above Alan Wake 2 was limited by releasing only on Epic on PC since Epic funded the game. Control is a much bigger IP than AW, they got their priorities straight, Alan Wake 3 is something we should see once the company has some more money in the bank.

I stand by my prediction that in a couple of years after royalties have stacked up a little Remedy will try and buy back the publishing rights from Epic just like they did with Control and 505, this way they'll be able to self publish on Steam and give the game a second life, further solidifying the company's economics. I think things are mostly going according to Remedy's plans. If the PS+/GamePass deals for FBC: Firebreak already bring them to break even (keep in mind this title is developer by a smaller team) that venture will be signifcantly profitable. Also speaking of PS+/GP Alan Wake 2 hasn't release of either of them yet.

Alan Wake 2 might be the current fastest selling game from Remedy so far in unit sales but before that it was Control. Control 2 was already in some form of pre-production before they even shipped Alan Wake 2.

It doesn't make sense to have talent sit on standby for a lengthy amount of time on the off chance that Alan Wake 2 becomes a critical/commercial success and invest further into the IP.

There's also the fact that a lot of people would be waiting for top creatives to have another idea for the sequel. Meanwhile there was already something being cooked up when it comes to the Control IP.

Remedy doesn't sell a lot of copies of their games, they can't afford to have an inefficient pipeline where a good chunk of employees are doing busywork while waiting for important work to be assigned to them.

Really happy for Remedy, and I hope they have that "Switch 2 Port" button handy (if they haven't used it already). I need all the games they can get running on that thing 🤤

They're also working on the Max Payne remakes, which are further along(full production) than Control 2.

Finally lol. It is crazy how such well received game, took such long time to at least be profitable.T_T The gaming industry is brutal.
