Are we going to see a new peak this weekend?

Normally I'd say no.
It's clear the WoM is stronger outside of China, which is when the current daily CCU peak happens.
This makes it harder to peak again even though the CCU graph will certainly be flatter through the days.

Although there's a huge X factor, the Labour Day holidays in China.
But ultimately I have no idea as to the percentage of workers who take more than the official day off.
1 May is a statutory holiday in the People's Republic of China. It was a three-day holiday until 2008, but was only one day after 2008.[17] However, the actual time off is often longer than the time off in the regulations, and the extra time off is usually supplemented by another two weekends, but since the extra time is not under an official holiday, the extra days must be "made up" by working on the preceding or following weekend.

@Necu I hope you don't mind. Is there any available data (or at least ballpark estimate) as to how many workers take more than the official singular day off?

@Evilnemesis8
These five-day holidays are arranged uniformly by the government. Most staff will get five days off, just like normal holidays.

And it’s basically five consecutive days around May 1. This year it’s May 1-5.

The game has been #2 on Steam Global's best sellers list (only behind CS2) for 3 or 4 days now.
Great legs, in my opinion

For the type of game that it is, certainly great legs.
At the same time, it makes sense that a less known entity is having better legs than the usual core JRPGs which have more established fanbases that shows up on Day 1 no matter what.

Local Placements right now:

Global - #2

Australia - #2
Austria - #2
Belgium - #1
Brazil - #2
Canada - #2
China - #2
Czechia - #2
Denmark - #2
Finland - #2
France - #1
Germany - #2
Hong Kong - #2
Italy - #1
Japan - #1
South Korea - #1
Netherlands - #1
New Zealand - #2
Norway - #3(Oblivion #2)
Poland - #2
Russia - #2
Singapore - #1
Spain - #4
Sweden - #3(Oblivion #2)
Switzerland - #2
Taiwan - #1
Thailand - #1
Turkey - #2
UK - #3(Steam Deck #1/CS2 #2)
US - #1

If not noted, every market where the game is #2 means CS2 is #1.
Norway/Sweden being the only markets where Oblivion is still ahead of Clair Obscur.
That doesn't surprise me too much, these two countries are very "Core PC" markets and I don't think JRPGs are that popular in the Nordics in general? At least relative to the big European markets.

I'm also seeing some pretty steady #1s in quite a few Asian markets now that Oblivion's launch has passed.

-----

I also want to highlight the fact that Schedule 1 and R.E.P.O. are still #5 and #6 respectively.
These games just keep on selling, huge return for these small indie studios.

Last time I checked Expedition 33 had 30k reviews, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, a 1 year and 3 months old (to the day!) game had 47k reviews, the success of this game is simply incredible.

Still feel like we will see a second weekend peak, i have already finished but still doing the extra content.

Its not a pretty long JRPG, so ite still impressive to see holding that well

The reception here has almost been night and day. There’s no telling if ARC will for sure be a hit or if Marathon will for sure be a failure. It’s not that simple. But observing how this has gone, it’s impossible not to compare the two and say this has been a much better week for ARC.

The stars aligned last week when I got to play the two biggest extraction shooters of 2025 on the same day: The Marathon alpha began at the same time that Embark held a press session for Arc Raiders. Going in, I was way more interested in Marathon. Not only is it an FPS (the superior camera angle to Arc Raiders' third-person), but I was sure that if anybody was going to get me jazzed about an extraction shooter that isn't Hunt: Showdown, it'd be Bungie.
Now that I've played four hours of both, I'm surprised to report that Arc Raiders is the extraction shooter I can't stop thinking about.
Arc Raiders' world, sounds, and legitimately scary robot roamers are making an excellent impression. Marathon, meanwhile, is kind of boring.

Lots of positive impressions coming from the Arc Raiders playtest. Now approaching 100k followers and currently #20 in wishlists. Could spell trouble for Bungie.

For comparison, Marathon: 30k followers and #62 in wishlists.

For another comparison, Marathon gained 25k followers in April and Arc Raiders gained 15k followers in April.

For yet another Comparison, Marathon is down to <1k CCU while there are still daily invite waves.

Arc raiders is up from 8k CCU to 12k CCU

Obsidian held a Twitch stream detailing some of the contents of patch 1.4 of Avowed and confirmed we'll be getting the fabled roadmap for the game next week. I assume it will entail some kind of expansion coming at the end of the year/early 2026. I think this might see a decent surge in users in the next few weeks as Oblivion fans are likely to look for similar games once they're done with the Remaster

Anyone who might even have a slight interest in Avowed has likely already played it without waiting to finish Oblivion, and considering that Obsidian's Twitch stream had a very low viewership of 735, I don't think future updates will cause a surge in Avowed players.

It took the tutorial and + 1 real round of Arc Raiders to convince me that I’ll want to play this game a ton when it comes out. It’s really fun, and with DMZ dead I really needed an alternative.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 new CCU record - 129,461
Very good 2nd weekend increase in spite of China slowing down on buying the game in the last few days.
It is has been #7-#8 since yesterday on the local store, which is lower than most countries at this point.

Current Top 5 reviews by language:
45.69% English
23.02% Simplified Chinese
8.81% French
5.13% Russian
3.02% German

China continues to fall %wise, almost at 9% pour le Pays des Lumières.

Wuthering Waves new CCU record - 16,027
Will add the game when it peaks on Sunday, it's a Gacha late port but numbers are enough to warrant an inclusion.

A couple of other smaller games release in the last few days:

Deadzone Rogue new CCU record - 6,665
Conquest Dark current new CCU record - 5,714

Arc Raiders playtest hit a new high today at 18,561

apparently, Marathon play test has been extended two more days, to May 6th. currently at 546 players, still NA only

Wuthering Waves hit a new high of 16,027

Did something like a single player game peaking in the second weekend usually happen?

I cant remember, a JRPG doing that its pretty impressive

No, it is very unusual. Only games with massive legs like Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 did that kind of thing.

Clair Obscur reached a new peak of 143,782 and it might still go up, who knows.
145,063 is the new peak now, though it is past peak hours so we might call it here. Really would've liked to see it get to 150k but this is nontheless extremely impressive!

That's a great final peak for Expedition 33, I'm 28 hours in and it's a fantastic game, I'm more and more impressed with what they were able to achieve with such a small team. Here's hoping we get a sales update soon!

Fantastic legs on Clair Obscur, WoM helped it massively. We'll likely see a 2 million sales milestone sooner rather than later.

Possibly final day over 100k for Expedition 33, it's been a wild run but the legs are what's gonna matter most, a lot of people have already finished the game yet the decline has been very soft so far.

The game it will have a lot of hype coming back when its The Game Awards time. Even if the game stop selling, i feel like the legs for the game on this genre its something unimaginable already

DOOM: The Dark Ages has now entered the Top 10.

Clair Obscur: Expedition has a very flat Monday when you look at Asia vs EU peak CCUs now that labour Holidays in China are done showing the current sales trend based off WoM

Monday Asia CCU peak: 105,880
Monday EU CCU peak: 101,830

Reviews also support that with China representing "only" 21.92% of reviews and continuing to trend down.

Does this mean that the game is selling better in Europe now?

The game is still top 10 in China, i feel like this is pretty good knowing something like Oblivion its already out of the top 50 there. I feel like most games like Metaphor and FFVII disappear of the top 10 in China after a few days

Yes, French reviews are now over 9% of total sales, they were around 7% a few days ago.

Sitting at 50k reviews Expedition 33 has now officially exceeded the total reviews of Granblue Fantasy: Relink (47k reviews), that's 12 days of sales vs 1 year and 3 months. Extremely impressive no matter how you look at it.

Heat Check:

DOOM: The Dark Ages weekly placements(May 13th Advanced Access):
Week of April 22th to 29th: #66
Week of April 29th to May 6th: #30
Currently - #14

Elden Ring Nightreign weekly placements:
Week of April 29th to May 6th: #39
Currently - #20

Is Doom going to be big?
I think so, but at the same time there's a few negatives it is that other games didn't have.

Based solely on wishlist positions(#10) and the last two weeks of pre-order placements, it's behaving like a decent hit. Review embargo for the game is this Friday:

Press and content creators now have access to the shooter and have revealed that DOOM: The Dark Ages reviews will go up on Friday, May 9, at 7 am PDT/10 am EDT/4 pm CEST.

Earlier than usual review embargo, they must feel confident in the game.
Lets potential customers look at reviews during the weekend and make their decision based on that.

Doom (2016) peak CCU - 44,271
Doom Eternal (2020) peak CCU - 104,891

Doom: The Dark Ages
potential CCU suppressors(not in order of importance):

- $10 dollars more expensive(although that's not that big of a deal especially in 2025)
- Doom Eternal was slightly less well received than 2016
- Unlike other games it is on Gamepass Day 1 and is also releasing on Battle.net
- Early Access of 2 days which lands on a Tuesday. Both other Doom games were on the shorter side, although this game appears to be bigger. Should still have some impact on peak CCU, especially if the game is much longer.
- Much higher requirements compared to previous games due to RT with no fallback.

Also, there's some data about Rematch's beta test as well as an announcement of other tests:

RDT-20250425-1603343622462237383669531.webp

63% of players playing more than 10 matches is a very encouraging stat for the studio no doubt.

As for the upcoming tests:

Limited Console Technical Test on May 9th.
This will help us validate the PS5 and Xbox Series versions, as well as the PC Game Pass release.
Invitations for the tech test will be sent separately, starting with our earliest subscribers. Keep an eye on your inbox if you want a chance to join early!

Did not notice that the game was coming to Game Pass but there you go.

But what's relevant for this thread is the second Open Beta:
We're happy to announce that our second Open Beta for Rematch will run from May 28th to May 30th, for a total of 48 hours of online football action!

We know this is a bit later than some of you were hoping, but the team has been focused on preparing the console versions, to ensure that Rematch will be playable on all platforms during the beta - this time, the beta will be accessible both on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Note: crossplay will not be activated yet, but will be very soon - this is one of our top priorities.

Cutting it quite close with the crossplay here, still not having it for the second go at it.
The game is supposed to come out June 19th.

Fantastic data and especially great player retention with 63% players playing more than 10 matches, that's a big commitment from the players.

The Italian Brainrot meme has almost topped the best strikers ranking...

Curious to see how DOOM will perform. Regional pricing is absolutely horrendous. And I don't think the 80€ price tag is going to do well in Europe.

I just learned Mafia: The Old Country has a very aggressive pricing of 50€/$ (sadly not as good of a price in lower income countries), I wonder if this is a combination of the game being on the shorter end and them trying to entice GTA fans to try this out while they wait for GTA being the other crime-based TPS from Take Two.

Awful regional pricing and UE5 are two immediate turn-offs.

Arc Raiders went from #15 yesterday to #12 today, the 3 games it passed probably have a similar amount of wishlists. DOOM and Nightreign are releasing in May which means this game is guaranteed a Top 10 finish.

DOOM: The Dark Ages reviews dropped today and all time zones have had time to spend and such so I figured it'd do a local placements list:

Overall no surprise, strong in US/UK/CAN and certain EU countries.
Makes sense considering the history of the franchise.

Clair Obscur is outlegging Oblivion pretty hard at the moment, I really underestimated it.

I try not to speak in hyperbole but I’m cleaning up all the end game stuff and I think this is a special game, hearing stories about how they found devs on sound cloud and from equity firms and seeing the result is really miraculous.

It’s not that the game is flawless, you can see where they were cutting costs but they did it in a way that you just don’t care, I don’t need the NPCs to have facial animations and speak English, it’s fine.
