2025 STEAM Concurrent Players(CCU) Official Watch Thread

Dynasty Warriors: Origins new CCU record - 16,244
96%
Steam rating with 906 reviews. Up 1 percent from yesterday when I took the snapshot, looks like the game will be stable and around the 95-97% Steam rating. That's great for the game.

As far as CCU goes, not a huge increase from yesterday, but I wouldn't expect this to be the case.
Most people who would buy a more expensive SKU for Advanced Access would be there Day 1.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Demo daily CCU peak - 2,871
Yesterday was 2,485, good sign for the weekend.

Man. Square’s staggered, random release strategy, coupled with the uncertainty of each release (each game is radically different than the last) is god-awful by comparison.

When it comes to Square-Enix, you can always expect to not not know anything about the timing and/or quality of any given PC port. Which is literally the worst way to cultivate an audience, especially on Steam. In my experience, they're a bit more prickly and demand a tad more than the console ecosystem(s) BUT the upside is that they'll be pretty loyal once you're firmly in their good side. Lots of Japanese publishers have come to PC/Steam a long time AFTER Square-Enix and yet have managed to grow a stable fanbase quicker with way more niche IPs.

Where do you see the CCU for the full release? Can't see it on SteamDB since they don't own the advances access copy of game.

I could get the number because the game made the Top 100(85-90~) during the usual Asia peak on Steam's official most played games list: https://store.steampowered.com/charts/mostplayed

Obviously the game is out of there since it is so Asia centric.

according to Nvidia, 80% of RTX owners turn on DLSS. honestly not surprising, because, why wouldn't you? it's performance for very little costs

Yeah no shit, games nowadays only give you an option between TAA and DLSS, of course I'm gonna use the one that actually works.

Assetto Corsa EVO is coming out in a bit more than 30 minutes.
This is going to be the big release for today.
Praying for a single racing game franchise to release a functional new entry in the last 2~ years lmao.

I've also removed Hyper Light Breaker from the list.
It won't achieve the 10K barrier due to the poor technical state and general lack of features of the Early Access launch. Aloft also might get cut, it's been rough Jan for the games that looked like they could do somewhat decently.

Rebirth is Steam Deck verified!

Prelude to the Switch 2 announcement no doubt.

Something in the last few days that I've missed:

What a great start to the week! We're excited to announce that we've sold over 500,000 copies of Stronghold: Definitive Edition. We're so happy you all enjoyed it as much as you did, and long may the good times at Firefly Studios continue...🧡

This launch back in November 2023, so 14 months for 500K.
Now if we only could see some modest successes when it comes to brand new RTS games... 😭

The moment Rebirth got Steam Deck verified, it immediately jumped about 5 places in the sales charts and into the top 10.
Sometimes it’s hard to separate my fandom from my analytical brain, but I just want this game to succeed so badly. It was so far beyond my expectations and deserves success. I hope they can figure out a way to get part 3 day/date on every single platform available.

Assetto Corsa EVO current Day 1 CCU record - 25,752
58%
Steam Rating with 93 reviews, most citing rough performance.
This is still an all-time CCU count for the franchise but that number could've been much higher.

Looks like the hunt of a well performing racing sequel continues....
GT7 PC port by Nixxes when?

Heroes of Hammerwatch II CCU record - 8,665
This game is will peak higher today and possibly during the weekend, so it'll get added on the list near the end.
This is a small franchise by Crackshell that has seen many releases: https://steamdb.info/developer/Crackshell/
Highest CCU count achieved with this release.

-----

Dynasty Warriors: Origins did not hit a new CCU record today but the Demo did peak slightly higher than yesterday.

JRPGs have been known to have decent playrate through Steam Deck, so that doesn't surprise me.

On this note - has anyone ever tried to ballpark typical weekly/monthly Steam Deck hardware sales using the combination of it's chart position and cost relative to other software that might disclose sales numbers? As far as I can see, even by the least generous estimates (e.g. assuming all sales are of the most expensive model), they'd still be selling 1 Steam Deck for every 9 units of a $60 game sold around its position in the top seller list, which seems very healthy?

505 Tweeted today was a big day and people were thinking it was a tease of Switch 2 but they were actually talking about Assetto Corsa DDDDD:

Yesterday's numbers:

Heroes of Hammerwatch II new CCU record - 10,573
Will add to the monthly list when after Sat/Sun's numbers.

Aloft new CCU record - 4,700

-----

Will those (myself inclused) that predicted a 50k+ CCU peak be vindicated?
The answer... Yes!

Dynasty Warriors: Origins current CCU record(will peak in less than an hour) - 50,193
95%
Steam rating with 2,058 reviews.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Demo is seeing more DoD increase with a current CCU count of 3,895.
Should up end fairly close to 4K or barely reaching it in like 20-30~ mins.

Tales of Graces f Remastered current Day 1 CCU record(will also peak very soon) - 2,717
89%
Steam Rating with 64 reviews.

As expected big carrying by China for DWO, peaked in prime China hours.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Day 1 CCU record - 52,564

Top 3 KT CCUs:

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - 75,906
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Demo - 57,500
Dynasty Warriors: Origins - 52,564
Makes it the 2nd highest when you remove the Demo.

Breakdown of reviews as of right now:

61.30% Simplified Chinese
20.17% English
9.36% Traditional Chinese
4.59% Korean
3.08% Japanese

Pretty much the expected result for the Franchise.

Tales of Graces f Remastered Day 1 CCU record - 2,771

The First Berserker: Khazan Demo Day 1 CCU record - 3,977
82%
Steam Rating with 250 reviews.

Yesterday Path of Exile 2 released a new patch right at the EU peak and today the game is already higher than yesterday's peak.

On a lesser note Marvel Rivals has been about 25-35k~ ahead all day today compared to yesterday.
2 Skins(Doctor Strange/Mantis) released today that are Chinese themed.

Besides today both games are overall doing very well with great player retention still, with Marvel Rivals doing exceptionally well.

-----

Also, yesterday Skyrim began a 90% discount(New Historical Low) so I'll be tracking CCU numbers this weekend.
Currently well ahead of yesterday's peak CCU of 31,880 with a current CCU of peak daily CCU of 36,747.

Very surprised by DW's performance and seeing those wo long numbers I wonder if KT are kicking themselves for signing an exclusivity deal with Sony.

What exclusivity deal are you referring to, and what game(s) does that apply to? It certainly doesn't apply to DW Origins nor Wo Long.

EDIT: Ah right, Rise of the Ronin. So many Asian-locales with swordplay games recently that I forget some.

Yesterday's CCU numbers:

Heroes of Hammerwatch II new CCU record - 13,148
This game is seeing strong EU and NA peak with the latter edging out the former slightly.

Aloft new CCU record - 5,374
Slight growth that should continue unto the weekend, but it won't be too much.
Game is still looking to come off the monthly list.

-----

Path of Exile 2 daily CCU peak - 264,262
Due to the new patch PoE 2 got a decent bump from Thursday's 226,882 peak.
Yesterday's numbers were even comparable to the previous Friday, which peaked at 264,393.

Marvel Rivals daily CCU peak - 496,569
Thursday's CCU peak - 453,555

Again, some decent bump from Thursday, although it's mostly because the game is a casual one and you're always going to see a more pronounced weekend buff, I don't think 2 new skins really have that much impact.
It is more important to look at Sat/Sun numbers compared to last week's and see what's the fall off. Recall that the game released Season 1 on Friday last week.

Oh and I forgot to mention it yesterday but EA SPORTS FC 25 had a huge spike due to new available players to buy.
The game peaked at 106,645 which is just a bit short of the all-time peak of 110,026 back during the launch wknd.
I'll keep an eye on things to see if a new CCU happens or if that 1 day bump from MTX is just going to be just that.

-----

'Dynasty Warriors is already tracking considerably higher than yesterday. I think this will easily break Koei Tecmo's record on Steam.

Yeah it's looking very promising for the game. We should almost be out of that Asia pre-evening slump period and soon the game should rise again for quite a number of hours.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Day 2 - 63,799 - NEW CCU RECORD

I KINDA was expecting a better record on a saturday but this is still a great result overall

Dynasty Warriors: Origins Day 2 - 63,799 - NEW CCU RECORD

I KINDA was expecting a better record on a saturday but this is still a great result overall

It's the Advanced Access and Demo effect, Less people join up on Day 2/3 because the WoM already spread.
Very good d numbers for KT but it seems like Wo Long might edge it out, still a chance though.
On the other hand, something tells me that this game will have better legs by virtue of not being a technical disaster.

-----

Tales of Graces f Remastered new CCU record - 3,293

The First Berserker: Khazan Demo new CCU record - 4,439
88%
Steam Rating with 954 reviews.
UE stutters, DX12 bugs, the usual.
It's a shame because with those issues not being present, lots of folks can run this game at 60/120FPS.

-----

Path of Exile 2 daily CCU peak - 286,310
That's just 2K less than last week's Saturday. GGG needs to release some more of them patches, I say!

Skyrim Special Edition hit a daily CCU peak of 57,385.
Higher than Nov 2021's 53,674, you have to go all the way to the launch of this version of the game back in 2016 for a higher CCU count. That year, in October, the game peaked at 69,906.

-----

Yesterday's CCU count:

Heroes of Hammerwatch II CCU record - 18,477
Today it is already higher currently sitting at 18,720.

Aloft CCU record - 7,251
Currently already higher today at 7,776.

-----

Dynasty Warriors: Origins new CCU record - 69,483
94%
Steam Rating with 4,557 reviews.

Tales of Graces f Remastered new CCU record - 3,546
Barely an increase from yesterday.

-----

Delta Force new CCU record - 131,264
This new record is due to the seasonal update that launched at on Saturday.

Skyrim Special Edition

3 days before release and FFVII Rebirth has moved into #4 on the Steam global charts, sans the F2P and Hardware entries. Remake Intergrade is also sitting at #17 as well.

Similarly 15 days from release KCD2 is #10, we're in for a several really strong weeks for Steam.

Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally. Can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!
AMD's next gpus will release in March. What a disastrous launch. Can their marketshare even go lower?

Y'know what they say, AMD never misses and opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Looking at what happened with Intel on the CPU side, I think the answer to the question is yes.

-----

People said that KCD2 started dropping because of all the talk about that thing

I don't think so? the 20-50 hour previews of KCD 2 that came out not very long ago were pretty much all glowing with praise.

KCD 2 actually slipped to the low 20s for a couple of dayse after staying at around 13-15 the week prior.
There was a noticeable dip for a few days for a title that should've climbing as its release date gets ever closer.
It's impossible to know how many people might've cancelled their pre-orders in that same timeframe.

I wonder if Sony remembers Spider Man 2 is launching in less than two weeks.

It's very strange that we're 10 days out and there's still no word on pricing.

Some of Playstation's ports recently have been very low effort when it comes to PR. Forbidden West and Ragnarok launched with almost no fanfare last year.

I'm not sure exactly what metric you're using, but if you're going to talk about overall impact, on the most recent weekly Steam global top sellers list, KCD 2 was #20. The week before that it was #75. The week before that it was not in the top 100.

EDIT: Huh, it has been in the top 25 all last week but it dropped from the newest weekly chart. Not sure if bug or if the massive amount of FTP titles on this week's top 100 compared to last week's actually all passed it (and FF7 Rebirth)

The general consensus, based in parts on retailers having these cards already and outlets at CES having the gpu info AMD didn't give in the keynote, is they have royally messed up the pricing and offering in comparison to Nvidia's 5070.

ehh? around a couple weeks ago when i was paying attention, leaked scores and the like, AMD new gen looked possibly like a strong value and more powerful than expected. guess i will check around again..

heh, feels like in another life i briefly tried to get into this franchise. maybe it was 20 yrs ago, maybe more or less i dont remember. a little tempted to try again (always a fun mini-game too see what my mini pc will run and how). interesting to see the stronghold name still kicks around in 2025.

i think i'm too tired to try again.

Performance numbers have been all over the place. And with not-final drivers at that. And while, at best, the numbers are good, there's still the issue to how much meat is on the bone for AMD (and retailers). If the issue is that retailers overpaid relative to the benchmarks in comparison to Nvidia, then lots of people are going to be unhappy. Hell, the chip size is, allegedly, on the large side despite the fact this isn't a top end product. Margins might be nonexistent now

I don't trust pre-release performance numbers for GPUS cause they're always inflated and super optimistic, especially when it comes to AMD hardware.

Edit: Totally unrelated, but is there a way for me to change the forum background color back to white? The current setup is hard on my eyes.
