Hey, this is my first thread 👋

First I want to thank @AshenOne for making last year's thread, and for making the format I've shamelessly taken.

2023(last year's thread) was quite the adventure for the STEAM platform, especially when it comes to CCU numbers.
Two new games cracked the Top 10 in Hogwarts Legacy(#8) and Baldur's Gate 3(#9)
We saw the sequel of some very popular franchise like Sons of The Forest at #20.
Indie titles like Lethal Company managed to get hit #45 all time while being created by a single individual.
Many GaaS titles achieved their biggest concurrent playercount yet.
This including games like Path of Exile/Destiny 2/Apex Legends/Naraka: Bladepoint and many more.

For 2024, I will be making sure to list all the big marquee titles coming to Steam, but also be on the lookout for games that one might not think would get any sort of numbers. The first game for 2024 is one such title.
I will be also adding titles that might be of interest to some of y'all even though they might not be big sellers.
I'm looking at you Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy.
Don't hesitate to name any game you think is worthy of being on here that I might've passed.

Lastly, don't hesitate to tag me if you spot errors or inaccuracies.
Especially for the last two on the table. It can be difficult to keep up with the all the game releases and if they're on EGS/GOG/MS Store as well as if they're on some subscription service Day 1(i.e. PC Gamepass).
I will be checking the status of game stores/Subscription Services for each release around the time of said release, but sometimes you just miss something.

With all of that out of the way, let's get started.

My bet is:
-Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth will beat Peak Numbers for the series
-Dragons Dogma it wont beat Monster Hunter World but it will all other Capcom games
- Persona 3 Reload can beat Persona 5 Royal Peak numbers, it depends.

Final Fantasy XVI PC Port its probably going to release in April/May too

I was very surprised by how the recent Yakuza Gaiden game did in terms of CCU, so I'm very curious to see how Infinite Wealth will do in a couple of weeks. I've been hearing some slight hype for Palworld and I know some pretty big VTubers as well as regular streamers are going to be playing it, so that's another one that I think will be interesting to chart out.

Me too, people love Kiryu.

Besides the Japanese duo, January will be all about Palworld and Enshrouded
Both are Early Access games and both are within the Top 10 in terms of wishlist and both have around 120k~ followers.

To provide further context, Beer Factory (I assume that's the game's actual name looking at its listing on Steam) is 39th on the Current German Top Seller ranking by revenue as of 09:46 CET on January 16th, 2024.

Also, the game's suggested price is €18,49 but it's currently 10% off, so €16,64.

Ah, sorry, that's my fault. I edited my post, the game is called Beer Factory indeed.

LaD Infinite Wealth and Persona 3R is the first time a mainline entry in either franchise is launching both simultaneously worldwide and simultaneously on PC, so it would be extremely disappointing if they didn't reach a new series peak.

Is there reason to expect FF16 on PC so soon, has there been any leaks or indication, or are you just guessing since exclusivity has likely run out (iirc it was 6 months)? I think they might do the same as 7R which was announced at TGA and released a week or two later, but this time it would be Summer Games Fest instead, so around June. (Or maybe they'll wait a bit longer between the release of the second DLC and potential ports)

1- Apex Legends
2- Steam Deck
3- PUBG
4- Counter-Strike 2
5- Lethal Company
6- Baldur's Gate 3
7- Call of Duty
8- War Thunder
9- Dota 2
10- Warframe

LaD Infinite Wealth and Persona 3R is the first time a mainline entry in either franchise is launching both simultaneously worldwide and simultaneously on PC, so it would be extremely disappointing if they didn't reach a new series peak.
Yes, records should be broken.

But there is this for Persona 3R, which is something to look out for.

Paradox announced Prison Architect 2, releasing March 26th. For those not aware the game was developed by Introversion, but after they finished what they wanted to do with the game they sold it to Paradox in 2019 who started developing a bunch of DLC for it (as they do). The new game has some major changes like being 3D and using the Z-Axis and while the original never had a huge peak on Steam, comparing it with its sequel should be interesting.

Added.

Render Cube has announced that their title "Medieval Dynasty" has surpassed 1.75 million unit sales on Steam as per 31st December 2023.

Something like 2~ days ago, both early access game Palworld(coming out Jan 19th) and Enshrouded(coming out Jan 24th) were at around 121k~ followers. Now Enshrouded has barely moved and Palword is around 152k~

People are getting ready to kidnap and cut up and enslaves human as well as animal npcs for their parts, the people have spoken.

After watching about ~3 hours of streaming of Palworld, I'm now definitely buying it on Steam this weekend, and I'm someone who never even heard about it until like 5-6 weeks ago and haven't played a Pokemon game since Yellow... and I have never been able to get into things like Valheim, Minecraft, and Ark. If I can watch a few hours of the game this early into its development cycle and feel like I want to buy it... this definitely has a chance for very large numbers if it's supported well by the devs.

EDIT: Just 30 minutes after launch and Palworld is at 68k players and will surely keep increasing as more people finish downloading the game.

105k after 45 minutes.

Clearly a case where streaming a few days before (early access) release helped this a ton.

I expected pretty big numbers but not as large as this, we officially have our first MASSIVE hit of 2024.
Obviously the buzz from previews and such in the last few days or so clearly had the intended effect with the gaming audience.
Something tells me that their previous game Craftopia is going to be slowing down on the updates in favour of this game 🤣

Palworld has (for the moment) peak CCU record of 352,361.

Passed the 350k mark, incredible really.

Nice instinct from Xbox to back the right game, it seems they don't always have the luck when it comes to this.

Speaking in the Palword Discord, developer Pocketpair said those playing on Xbox or PC through Game Pass or the Microsoft Store cannot create or join dedicated servers, which means online co-op is limited to 2-4 players.

“We’d like to have dedicated servers on Xbox but it’s unfortunately not up to us and is quite difficult to negotiate at this time!” a Pocketpair representative said. “But… we are trying!”

It's unclear what Pocketpair means when it says the addition of dedicated servers on Xbox is "not up to us", when other games do have dedicated servers on Xbox. IGN has asked for comment.
A bit unfortunate on that front.

Anyhow, peak Asia time CCU and current record is 370,128.
Will be interesting how the CCU behaves during EU/NA peak time, could give us a bit of an indication of how the game will perform during the weekend.

It just hit a new peak (after barely declining through the day really) so I'd say probably pretty well assuming the game doesn't totally fall off after 8-10 hours playtime or something.

Yfw you're typing the update and you see "there's a been a new post" 😭

But yes, the game fell about 35k~ during EU times, but has been steadily rising for the last hour or so.
It's highly viewed on Twitch and generally that means a more NA centric audience vis-a-vis EU.
It's almost 10 AM JST right now. So the game should steadily keep climbing in the next few hours as more and more people from NA come back home and Asia logs keeps logging in.

A very stable CCU through the day tells me there's obvious worldwide appeal.
The 92% positive on Steam(up from 89% at launch) also bodes well for word of mouth.
I've seen a lot of negative reviews left early on because people couldn't remap keys, probably would be at like 94%~ positive with having that at launch.

Also makes me really wish there was like a daily unique users count or something. I get the feeling there are a lot of games people would feel very differently about comparing concurrent to daily users or whatever. And something I wish more people would keep in mind when using concurrent user stats - I know we love them 'cause they're basically all we have, but I've had the sense lately that they don't do the best job telling the entire story.

Yeah, depending on the game. The total amount of players playing per day could be quite lower or higher than we could ever know.
For example, RPGs like BG3/Starfield could have a bunch of players playing long hours making the unique player count much lower than one would think based on the average CCUs.
Inversely games like DotA 2 and CS2 probably have a bunch of players just doing 1 or 2 matches then ragequitting and asking themselves : Why do I keep playing this degenerate game after 10 years? Repeat that process everyday.
Which would mean the amount of daily players is probably some absurd number.

At least at launch, it's not that much of an issue. Because everybody do be playing.

Edit: Palworld has reached 400k CCU with a new CCU record of 401,856.

God damn, I wonder if Palword can enter the all time top 10 CCU this weekend. Only needs to improve by 60k on the first day's peak.

I had already predicted Palworld to be a hit since their previous game Craftopia was pretty big, but this has completely blown away my expectations. I thought it would do something like 10x the Craftopia peak of 27k, but so far it's managed to beat it >20x and it will probably go even higher throughout the weekend 🤯

Checking on SteamDB the 10th highest all-time peak is Goose Goose Duck with 702k, so Palworld is 140k away, which will be a bit more difficult than 60k but still doable.

How I never heard of this until yesterday. And it's not like I'm completely out of the loop on gaming news...
Was fun to play. The pop-ins suck. Not sure tho if that's my old 1070 GPU.

But so far I only played alone by myself.

It has just surpassed 702k and entered the top 10!

Hot damn, just cleared 800k. I dunno if this is just a flash in pan or will become a mainstay title on Steam, but I suspect that its actually solid gameplay, good performance for an early access title and actually being a fairly unique standout in the genre all things considered will give this a solid playerbase for a long while as long as the devs keep updates rolling out.

So I went to bed last night knowing it kept rising at off-peak hours for pretty much every time zones, so I knew we had a big fish here. But holy heck, it's already in the Top 10.

Palword has reached 850k with a new CCU record of 851,315.

Also, just because it's thematically relevant, DayZ has hit a record CCU of 73,418 just 13 days ago on Steam.

Enshrouded devs probably sweating right now :

You are Flameborn, last ember of hope of a dying race. Awaken, survive the terror of a corrupting fog, and reclaim the lost beauty of your kingdom. Venture into a vast world, vanquish punishing bosses, build grand halls and forge your path in this co-op survival action RPG for up to 16 players.

It's due for the 24th. I am sure the game will have a nice launch based off the wishlist/followers.
But for sure Palworld will have an effect on the launch, it's sucking out all the air in the room.

Edit: Asia Peak 855,706

The number is starting to drop, so I will use this as a clear sign to claim loudly that it is OGRE!

(Asia is going to bed. I fully expect this to hit 1 million today or tomorrow.)

I saw a 648k a bit earlier, but the game has begun its ascension once more.

Palworld PoV right now :

New milestone, new post : Palworld has reached 900k with a new CCU record of 902,874.

Edit1: Palworld has reached 950k with a new CCU record of 950,991.

Edit2: Palworld has passed Elden Ring's CCU record of 953,426 with a current CCU record of 953,958.
It is now #6 on the all time list.

More to come soon...

At 6:30 AM UTC yesterday Palworld was at 560k CCU. Currently it's knocking on the door to one million. Just absurd single day growth of what was an already absurd launch day.
