• Akira Toriyama passed away

Let's all commemorate together his legendary work and his impact here

Nintendo software and hardware sales data from 1983 to present

1m on the dot for Japan. No updates for WW.

Grady, is it possible to compile updated figures for the various Zeldas? (It would also be super helpful if you could say what page no. each game is mentioned on.) I'd love to update our sales page on the Zelda Wiki with the latest figures.

I usually carry this exercise out with @Marth each year, but since you have the book on you now, I figured I'd ask. :)

(If you don't have the time for it atm, though, no pressure.)

Interesting how XB2 is exactly where general expectations had it, about 2.5 mio. Will be interesting to see whether XB3 also manages to hit the common expectations of 3 mio units. I expect it to be a slow crawl, though.

Thx for the numbers, Grady.

I'll put that request onto my list.

Did not expect 3D All-Stars to move more. Went from 9.01M to 9.07M.
I was curious if 3D All-Stars would remain idle or not cause it's a very peculiar case with the limited time anniversary release.
Maybe some of the last orders from retailers arrived in the last few days of March and were dispatched in April (when stock were shipped to retailers)?

Thx for the numbers, Grady.

We will see!
Hopefully it will start with a bang (1.9million first quarter?); this would help it even with weaker legs (as many are expecting)
At the end even XenoDE did sell 200k last year (despite being "just" a sort of remastermake?!)

I bought CESA 2022 today. Here are some updates for some Switch-only games (International + Domestic).

Note: Will update the list with more later.
Thanks for these CESA updates!

And thank you for listing the previous years' sales for easy comparison!

Pretty sure Fire Emblem: 3 Houses will reach 4 million by the next CESA, which is unbelievable!

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order: 1.50m
Astral Chain: 1.28m
Bayonetta 2: 1.04m

Team Ninja and Platinum Games should be very satisfied.

It is incredible how Nintendo saw potential where Sega did not. Adding the character to Super Smash Bros. was a smart move. It's the best market tool they have alongside Nintendo Directs.

Btw @Grady: unlikely, but are there numbers for Xenoblade X?

With the end of the Wii U-eshop, I was wondering whether there might have been a small sales push. Thx!

3DS game updates

Luigi Mansion: Dark Moon 6.47m
The Legend of Zelda: OoT3D: 6.40m
Nintendogs + cats: 4.68m
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds: 4.24m
Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS: 3.79m
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D: 3.43m
Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright/Conquest: 3.05m
Mario Party: Island Tour: 2.95m
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D: 2.93m
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.: 2.68m
Kirby: Triple Deluxe: 2.65m
Fire Emblem Awakening: 2.35m
Yoshi's New Island: 2.05m
Kirby: Planet Robobot: 1.61m
Mario Tennis Open: 1.58m
Miitopia: 1.22m
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam: 1.08m
Star Fox 64 3D: 1.06m
Rhythm Heaven Megamix: 1.02m
Nintendo presents: New Style Boutique 2 - Fashion Forward: 1.00m

Let's say that Bayonetta 3 will be a million seller (I think it's safe to assume this, unless the review will destroy it)
That would made three million sellers developed by Platinum for Switch

Astral Chain (new IP, property of Nintendo)
Bayonetta 2 (port, property of SEGA)
Bayonetta 3 (new episode, property of SEGA)

I think that if Nintendo would like to make a new Astral Chain or try another new action-oriented IP, there would be few reasons to not work again with Platinum, honestly
maybe Platinum and Nintendo will give the fantasy game another shot. Astral Chain was originally fantasy before Nintendo suggested they go sci-fi

Team Ninja and Platinum Games should be very satisfied.

It is incredible how Nintendo saw potential where Sega did not. Adding the character to Super Smash Bros. was a smart move. It's the best market tool they have alongside Nintendo Directs.
Bayonetta was a case of just sticking with it and letting natural growth take hold. Sega might have wanted fast returns but didn't get it so they bounced off the IP. I think they also had financial struggles at the time too?

Amazing data

Thank you so much for providing this great breakdown. Your continued contribution and replies are always very much appreciated <3

Anyway, it's great that Bayonetta 2 finally crossed the 1M mark. Many other games crossed relevant thresholds too. XC2 sold more in 2021 than in 2020 (which was a huge year for software in general) as expected thanks to the Smash boost. It should be at ~2.6M by now, and will eventually reach 3M (and XCDE 2M) as I've been defending for a while. FE3H should be at ~4M by now.

Thanks a ton! I really, really appreciate it. I'll get to work updating ZW. :)

Dragonball Fighter Z (NSW): 2.01m
Dragonball Xenoverse 2 (NSW) 1.55m
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy (NSW): 1.26m
Any number for Vesperia Definitive Edition? You'd think that'd be an easy million on Switch alone IMO.

Dragonball Fighter Z (NSW): 2.01m
Dragonball Xenoverse 2 (NSW) 1.55m
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy (NSW): 1.26m
These are good numbers, but certainly lower than what I expected.
While Dragon Ball FighterZ was released later on Switch, it was "only" 8 months, so for it to be only about 25% of total sales is kind of surprising.

Look at it this way. The Switch version sold more than the Xbox version, and based on total lifetime sales last year we can safely say it also sold more than the PC version. Switch being the #2 platform in this case is very good.

Does Bandai Namco share sales numbers of Dark Souls 3?

Anyway.

As for me, Bayonetta 2 and Link's Awakening were the highlights for me regarding Switch software.

I hope Bayonetta 3 to hit somewhere in the 1.5 to 2m range.

No FE Echoes or Samus Returns... ;_;
Unfortunately, there were no numbers for Xenoblade X.
Damn.

Actually makes me think, is there something for Fatal Frame? I really doubt it, but you never know with the recent ports. Might be a problem with all the different titles and SKUs.

Fatal Frame Series WW shipment is at 1.35m (For PS, PS2 and Xbox) That's all the info I can see in the papers.

So PS4 Dragon Ball games still outpacing Switch, which again, kind of surprising, as I would've thought the Switch versions would be the top selling SKU after their release.
