• Akira Toriyama passed away

Let's all commemorate together his legendary work and his impact here

Nintendo software and hardware sales data from 1983 to present

ARMS is the one that always interests me, I wonder how (little) it has grown.
It has the eternal problem of a multiplayer with little offline components. Once online is practically dead, the game has no value. Nintendo doesn't even try to resuscitate it with discounts. Out of all their early games, I expect it to move the least

Are there any games on the list that you expect to reach 1 million copies?
There is also other LABO kits

The Warriors are the only somewhat possible new entries for 2021 imo but missing both 3DS and Japan (/possibly rest of Asia) makes it very tough for FE. Bravely Default II might get there eventually with enough 50% off sales

Bravely Default II was at 1M WW as December 2021 including PC.

Not listed but Dragon Quest XI S may finally reach 1M at West.

Without Japan and PC that should be around 750k, and it was very slow to go from 950k to 1m combined WW which is why I'm not putting 1m Switch overseas as a guarantee.

I've added the following note under the grid with hardware/software sales:
NES (Famicom) software sales includes both format: cartridges and disks. In total 53.39 million game disks were sold-in for the Famicom.

The total sales of game disks for Famicom isn't a widely known number.

in a just world, the demi fiend and byleth would be clashing for the fate of the world while pixie and sothis hurl petty insults at each other
Just wait until the next Smash game...

How did we forget Sushi Striker?
Sushi Striker - on top of being not a particularly high seller - also has the issue of being split between 3DS and NSW. It's a shame because it looked like it had cool gameplay, and had a banger main theme song (I say this as someone who owns both versions, and still hasn't played it yet whoops).

About the 13 million copies between the NES Classic and the SNES Classic.
I think the proportion is maybe 8 (snes) vs 5 (Nes).

So who is buying the CESA Games White Book and when will the data get shared here?

I remember someone told me his digital tracking ranking means there is no way Xenoblade isn't bigger than Fire Emblem as an IP.

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing, man. There's a ton of interesting updates in there.

Some quick thoughts:
  • Link's Awakening at 6.08 million is ridiculously good. The only 2D Zelda game to have sold more is the original LoZ.
  • Confirmation of 1 million for Bayonetta 2 is great.

  • I think a lot of folks on here that expected Xenoblade 2 to be higher are going to be disappointed, but 2.44 by the end of 2021 sounds right. It's probably a little higher now, but I do think this is a reminder that we need to keep Xeno expectations in check until the series can introduce more elements that help it reach a broader audience the way FE has.

  • Fire Emblem: 3 Houses at 3.8 million is absolutely astounding. By the time the next game comes out, 3H will likely have reached 4 mil. The question now is how they can get it to grow even further, or alternatively, sustain that level of sales with upcoming entries. More exploration elements, better world-building, and better presentation would go a long way towards that goal.

  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 at 1.5 million is fantastic, although it definitely had the potential to do better with more marketing. I think there's a real opportunity for this series to make a comeback, provided the budget and licensing costs can be kept under control. That said, if there is an eventual MUA4, I'd definitely consider giving it a slightly higher budget than 3. I think that would go a long way.

* Global sales of the SKU 'Pokémon Sword/Shield + Expansion Pass' are not counted towards the total for 'Pokémon Sword/Shield' in Nintendo's public shipment data. Since this SKU was not listed among Nintendo's million-seller titles, its global sales are under 1 million units and it appears that its shipments were strictly limited to calendar year 2020.

Wish they could release a MUA3 Definitive Edition to fix some of the issues with the original.

Too late for that, if they want to they can try for MUA4.

I don't see why they would though, I am not sure if Nintendo feels they need a Marvel game right now.

@Grady Mind sharing third party Switch million seller global numbers? Bandai Namco has a few that I'd like to get updates on.

My main takeaway

- Zelda Link's Awakening: WOAH, those are huge numbers for a 2D remake!
- Mario Tennis Aces: hey hey hey, just shtop it now! Insane legs, best Mario Sport game by far, it will be hard for Strikers Battle League Football to reach those numbers!
- Good to see Bayonetta 2 becoing million seller, at this point Bayo3 (that is brand new) can totally repeat this performance, I hope, also looking at Astral Chain "solid" million mark (almos 1.3m)
- Good boy FHTH, almost 4 millions (milestone totally achievable, imho)
- Xenoblade almost at 2.5 millions, as I was expecting going by the analysis shared in the other topic. Now let's see if 3 millions will be in sight for X3!

I would hope Nintendo continues working with Platinum. especially with new hardware coming soon as their games games would benefit the most from it. maybe on an Astral Chain 2?

Let's say that Bayonetta 3 will be a million seller (I think it's safe to assume this, unless the review will destroy it)
That would made three million sellers developed by Platinum for Switch

Astral Chain (new IP, property of Nintendo)
Bayonetta 2 (port, property of SEGA)
Bayonetta 3 (new episode, property of SEGA)

I think that if Nintendo would like to make a new Astral Chain or try another new action-oriented IP, there would be few reasons to not work again with Platinum, honestly
